Cross the Pond westbound 013 Pilot Briefing Berlin Tegel EDDT Hello and welcome to Berlin Tegel Airport! Thank you for choosing this history-charged airport as your departure for the CTP! In the next pages we d like to introduce you to the common procedures used here so you can familiarize yourself the best with the field and enjoy your departure as much as possible! Have fun! We re waiting for you! Berlin RG Staff
Airport information and charts http://www.vacc-sag.org/airport/eddt Terminal layout Berlin Tegel has one major terminal. This one is used by many major airlines like Lufthansa, British Airways or Swiss. There are also many remote positions west of it. The southern part is Terminal D/E and is used by AirFrance/KLM. The positions in the eastern part are mainly used by Air Berlin and other holiday charters like Germania and SunExpress. Furthermore there is a general aviation parking area with remote parking positions in the western part of the airport as well as a military apron in the north. For the CTP 013 we ll be using all available positions and ask you to please watch out for your assigned gate of departure. The latest information will be available the day before departure at www.fir-berlin.de In Order to prevent chaos, we will assign you a gate and a log in time. Please follow this information as close as possible and study the special parking chart provided with this briefing. Due to wingtip clearence, not all parking positions will be available to heavy aircraft. Taxi system and departures Berlin Tegel has a very straight out taxi system. When runways 6L and 6R are in use, you will be taxing out via PM and SM. In order to distribute ground traffic, there is the possibility for you to be requested to push back facing south to go via PW and PE over the southern
bridge. In case of runways 08L and 08R, taxiout will take place via PW to SM. Traffic parked at position 61 to 6 will most probably requested to pushback facing south to go over the bridge via PE and PW. In consideration for all other pilots wanting to depart at almost the same time, we ll be thankful if you minimize pushback and startup time as much as possible! Please pay attention to the pushback direction from the ground controller! Moreover, it is very important for you to check the following Hot Spots while taxing in Berlin: 1 PW and PM disjunction. It is very important to watch out which direction your taxiing to because the wrong taxiway will lead you head-on to incoming traffic. - RW short of 08L This point is important if you want to depart from runway 08R! If you miss it and continue via SM, you ll arrive at the holding point for 08L. 3 If you re arriving into Berlin, please be advised of the short distance between both runways. This could happen to you especially if you vacate via RW with still a high taxi speed. The same happens for all incoming traffic vacating 08L via RE. Due to the runway length, mostly all CTP departures will take place on runway 6R/08L. If you re able to use 6L/08R, please inform the delivery controller on initial contact so we can
distribute traffic. Following standard taxi routes can be expected: 6R/L: Southern parking PM, SM and SE PW, PE and SE North parking NW and NE 08L/R: Southern parking PW, SM and RW PW, SM and SW PE, PW, SM and RW PE, PW, SM and SW Northern parking NW
ATC For departure, there will be two delivery positions: EDDT_DEL / 11.90 Departures to Miami and Toronto EDDT DEL / 17.870 Departures to Boston and Philadelphia Futhermore, the following positions will be online: Position / Callsign Frequency Tegel Ground / EDDT_GND 11.7 Tegel Tower / EDDT_TWR 14. Bremen Radar (Departure) / EDBB_DEP 10.6 Bremen Radar (Approach) / EDBB_N_APP 119.6 Bremen Radar / EDWW_B_CTR 13. Call early for clearence and watch out for your departure time. We will be watching all ground operations and EDDTCTP_OBS will be online in case of any problems. Contact this position via text if you have any problem on the ground. Furthermore we d like to ask you to write your assigned slot time in the remarks field of your flight plan so we can relate the departures more quickly and keep track of all flights. After calling delivery for your clearence, this controller will finish his clearence with the wording startup approved. This does not mean you re allowed to pushback at your discretion. Having received your clearence, contact the ground controller. He will be responsible for your pushback and taxi. While reaching the holding point, Ground will instruct you to Contact Tower on 14.0, callsign only. This means you should just tune the frequency and call in with your callsign only. If you feel forgotten, then of course do not hesitate to call the tower. After departure, it is very important to change by yourself to departure frequency. The tower controller will not hand you off. Also watch out for the initial climb altitude indicated in your SID. When departing runways 6L/R the initial climb altitude is 4,000ft. When using runways 08L/R, initial climb is,000ft. Departure procedures As allready mentioned, departure procedures in Berlin require you to remain on tower frequency until passing,000ft. Thereafter you should change by yourself to Berlin Departure. It will be a busy evening, so we kindly ask you to keep your atc chatter short. If ATC should be so busy, level off at the initial climb altitude and wait a for an oportunity to request higher
clearence. Regardless of the flight stage, all pilots are encouraged to study this guide before departure and apply radio discipline during the event. This means to keep your readbacks short, listen to a frequency before calling in, and not take long to answer. There will be lots of pilots willing to use the frequency. Scenery Currently, there are freeware and payware sceneries available for Berlin Tegel Airport. If you would like to experience maximum realism and great graphics, we encourage you to buy Aerosoft Berlin Tegel 01. You can find a link to the available sceneries in the EDDT General Information website www.vatsim-germany.org/airport/eddt. Feedback and questions If after reading this guide you still have any questions, please don t hesitate to contact the RG Berlin staff! We ll be glad to help you out! edbb@vatsim-germany.org
