OCTOBER 2014 T HE C O NS TE L L A T I O N PAGE 2 This journey, like all, has a beginning and an end. The end of the journey, however, is not always the final destination. Serving as President of the Mile- High Section for the last two terms has been very enjoyable and educational. The Happy Car Column With Niels Haubold, President, Mile-High Section This Month: The End of the Road It was never my intention to become the Section's leader, but I didn't shy away from the challenge when it was presented. I am grateful for the opportunity. In fact, I am the luckiest guy in the world to have served with the Board and officers that I had. How could one go wrong when heeding the advice of a rocket scientist? If not for the hard work and dedication of the fine men and women serving our Section, I would have floundered. I count my blessings and deflect credit to the Mile-High Section s continued success upon them. The volunteers that dedicate their time to this organization depict the best of the best. These fine men and women serve selflessly, and many for decades. They do it for nothing but the thrill of helping others have a good time. The internal satisfaction carries on for quite a while. Please join us at our Annual Member's Meeting and take the opportunity to thank these fine folks in person. Perhaps after an evening of wining and dining with like-minded folks you might want to fill one of our vacant Board positions. Thanks for letting me serve you. Happy Motoring! OCTOBER 2014 T HE C O NS TE L L A T I O N PAGE 5 The Road to Moab 29 Friends - Over 5,000 Pictures - and a Grand Time in the High Desert Our Fall Road Trip to Moab, Utah was a smashing success. It included 29 members from Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona. We met for breakfast in Lakewood where the majority of us got on the road and off to Grand Junction to meet up with the rest of our group. After a wine tasting stop at Castle Creek Winery it was on to Moab. Upon arrival, the group enjoyed an evening of hospitality and dinner at the Blu Pig BBQ restaurant. Saturday morning, we were up and off to Arches National Park, where we toured the visitor center, enjoyed a film on how the Arches were created by nature, and toured the beautiful park with its gorgeous scenery. After the park visit and lunch in town, we drove what is called the Potash Drive. The drive was 18 miles of sheer beauty, with the Colorado River on one side and sheer rock cliffs on the other. Also along the drive, were Native American carvings which we stopped to admire and photograph. That evening we again enjoyed an evening of hospitality and dinner at the Moab Brewery. On our final day, we visited Canyonlands National Park, where we again toured the visitor center, enjoyed a film on how Canyonlands was created, walked and hiked high above the canyon, and enjoyed a picnic lunch. On our way back to Moab, we stopped at Dead Horse State Park to view more breathtaking scenery. We ended our day at Buck s Grill House for wonderful food and lively conversation. The only down side to our trip was the cloudy weather which made the attempt to star gaze a little difficult. It was a great trip, catching up with old friends and making new ones. Thanks to all our participating members, who made this trip such a fun event. We are all looking forward to trips in 2015.
