16 January 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians RE: Sixth Form Berlin & Krakow Trip Saturday 10 Saturday 17 February I am writing about final arrangements for the Sixth Form Berlin and Krakow trip. On the day of departure, (Saturday 10 February) students will need to arrive at school by 1.30am. We will meet outside the Sports Hall in order that luggage can be packed on the coach ready for departure. Please do not park in the area where coaches normally turn and park. I would suggest that your son/daughter brings some food/drink for the coach journey. Bags to go in the hold of the coach should be a holdall or soft bag as opposed to having a hard shell as they are much easier to pack in the hold of the coach. Students are allowed one piece of hand luggage no bigger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm including the handle, pockets and wheels and one piece of luggage to check in. This must not exceed 20 kg. You can only carry liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of 100ml or less when you pass through security (i.e. in hand luggage). They should all fit into one transparent, re-sealable 20cm x 20cm bag. Only one bag per person. Make sure any liquids that you do not need whilst on the aircraft are in your hold luggage. Our flight departs at 6.30am from London Gatwick North Terminal. It is an EasyJet flight. The flight number is EZY8207. We land at 9.30am (local time + 1 hour) in Berlin Schönefeld Airport. Our return flight will depart at 9.55am (local time + 1 hour) from John Paul II Balice International Airport in Krakow. It is an EasyJet flight number EZY8512. We should land at 11.35am at Gatwick North Terminal. We will be returning to school at approximately 15.30 on Saturday 17 th February to the A361/Sports Hall entrance. Please note that the gates will not be open until the coach arrives back at school. Your son / daughter will ring once we have landed and once we are onto the M40 to give you an idea of our estimated return time. I would like to draw your attention to the following important information: Clothing and footwear: The weather in Berlin and Krakow is very similar to the UK. It is likely to be very cold during the visit and there is a possibility of snow and rain. Students will need comfortable attire, suitable for a school trip. A warm coat is required (preferably waterproof), hat and gloves are also necessary. Sensible and comfortable foot wear is essential as we will be doing a lot of walking. Towels are provided by the hotel. Spending Money: I would recommend bringing 20-30 as well as 70 ( 60) and 300 zloty ( 65). This will cover lunches and there will be opportunities to buy souvenirs from the museum shops and a little bit of time in Berlin and Krakow to do some shopping. Valuables: Students may bring with them mobile phones, MP3 players, ipods, digital cameras, etc., but the school takes no responsibility for damage or loss of these items. Any item of value your son/daughter brings on the trip is their responsibility. It is important that when our guide Steve is speaking that students listen to what he has to say. Smoking & Alcohol: School rules concerning alcohol and smoking apply on school visits and are absolutely forbidden. Health and Medication: Your son/daughter s Passport and EHIC card must have been handed in to staff prior to leaving. If your son/daughter requires medication during the trip, please make sure that it is in an envelope with your son/daughter s name, form and instructions clearly marked. We will not administer medication but will ensure they are given the envelope at the correct time to administer the medication themselves if this is something you wish. If your son/daughter requires travel sickness medication, please ensure that they have adequate medication to take on both journeys. Inhalers etc. are your son/daughter s own responsibility and they must take care of these themselves. Behaviour: History trips have always been an enjoyable experience. This has been due to the positive attitudes and outstanding behaviour of the students we have travelled with. I would ask you therefore to remind your son/daughter that they are expected to behave appropriately particularly given the nature of the sites we are visiting and the purpose of the trip. Dialling Codes: From Berlin to UK dial 0044 + Number but omit the first 0 from the area/std code. From UK to Berlin dial 0049 + Number. From Krakow/Warsaw to UK dial 0044 + Number but omit the first 0 from the area/std code. From UK to Krakow/Warsaw dial 0048 + Number.
