Gastein- Snowpark Gastein For many freeriders, Gastein valley with its high mountains and amazing powder descents has grown beyond the status of an insider tip. Just before last winter, however, the region had been rather unknown as a freestyle destination. In the last season, the first step towards a first-rate park has been taken. The Gasteiner Bergbahnen company engaged QParks, the most successful snowpark company of the german-speaking countries for this most ambitious park project. The snowpark Gastein will surely make its way to one of the top snowparks in Austria real soon now. During the whole season, Andi Röck and Bernd Mandlberger are the ones responsible for the snowpark Gastein. Mandlberger has already shown his intriguing talent for parkdesign at the Senonerpark on Hochkar, as well as at the snowpark in Kitzbühel. One parkdesigner, a headshaper and 3 more shapers are working for incredible 2100 hours every season. As a matter of fact, the conception of the setup as well as the structure and the daily support are in the best hands. Another reason for the dashing success of the park are the newly installed snow-cannons as well as some intelligent excavation works on the terrain carried out in autumn 2008. The snowpark gastein is situated inside the Stubnermulde on the Stubnerkogel, directly above the beautiful city of Bad Gastein. From there you can easily get to the various descents which extend to the well-known Schlossalm and Bad Hofgastein. The entire Stubnermulde is a renowned snowpark area and can be reached easily by the Burgstalllift. Also in this season the team around QParks chief designer Bernd Mandlberger provides perfect conditions in the snowpark. The park set-up just specialized in the needs of freestyle beginners and intermediates just like last season. The beginner kickerline with 2 tables between 5 and 8 meter length is ideal for practizing the first jumps and tricks. Advanced riders can try out the triple medium and pro kickerline whereby 2 kicker between 8 and 12 meter care for enough airtime. Besides the well-tried obstacles as down and kinked rail, flat-, rainbow- or curved box this season there will also be available some new creative elements to complete the set-up. Freestylers, look forward to the 7m industry rail, the down flat down box as well as the 3m wallridespine. Like already mentioned, Gastein valley is riddled with steep powderfields, nice cliffs and tree jibs. The resort Sportgastein offers fantastic freeride opportunities, easy to be found in the middle of impressive mountain-tops. The highest of them tower up to 2.700m and are characteristic for a couple of vast and steep areas. If you are keen on some memorizing encounters after a fresh dump, you should ask some locals for the legendary north descent. With the event End of the Season another successful season has found an adequate ending. Special guest Joni Malmi showed the present snowboarders and freeskiers his skills and together they releaxed at the chill area. Among the mentioned photo- and filmshootings, the participants were mainly interested in the Goodie for Trix Session, sponsored by the local shops First Descent and Free Alpi. The End of the Season Party was rounded off in the locally well-known Haeggbloms.
Local Tipp: Michael Putz Gasteiner valley offers a broad range of opportunities. If you re on the search for powder, you ll strike it rich already at the valley station in Dorfgastein. Take a look at the run to Großarl, you won t regret it! Of course there s the legendary north descent in Sportgastein, though there are enough spots providing you with kickers and cliffs and are even reachable without taking the lift. For parkfreaks of course there s the snowpark Gastein on the alp Stubneralm with boxes, kickers and rails in all shapes and sizes. Certainly, there s a parklift on the side. Couldn t be better!
