Day 1 Monday, April 6 TBA Arrive Los Angeles Airport for flight check in. TBA Flight scheduled to depart for Honolulu. Meals available for purchase (debit or credit card only). TBA Scheduled arrival time in Honolulu. Upon arrival at Honolulu Airport, you will be met at the gate, presented with the traditional Lei Greeting of Aloha and escorted through baggage claim to board your bus for the short ride into Waikiki. (Please note that you will not be claiming your bags or instruments. They will be transferred by truck to the hotel. This process can take some time, so please be patient). Check into hotel. Dinner on your own this evening 8:30pm Director s meeting and reception. Day 2 Tuesday, April 7 7:30am Buffet breakfast. 9:00am Competition begins at the Kapiolani Bandstand. If applicable, your instrument truck will be at the park at 8:15am. Participants will be walking to/from hotel and Kapiolani Park. The Kapiolani Bandstand is located within Kapiolani Park. It is a
beautiful Victorian-style structure. Located very close to the Waikiki Shell, and with a beautiful view of Diamond Head Crater, the Kapiolani Bandstand is a great place to spend the day performing at the 2015 Hawaii Invitational! 12:00pm Hawaii Invitational pizza in the park for lunch today during competition. Jazz Band Jam Session during lunch join the fun! Afternoon free, dinner on your own. Day 3 Wednesday, April 8 6:45am Enjoy buffet breakfast. 7:45am Bus departs for Pearl Harbor and the City of Honolulu tour. While at Pearl Harbor you will visit the USS Arizona Memorial. On the Honolulu City tour you will see Iolani Palace (the only royal palace on US soil), the famous statue of King Kamehameha, the Capital Building, Chinatown and other places of historical interest in Honolulu. Within the grounds of Pearl Harbor are a number of exhibits, displays, memorials, and museums, honoring not only the 1,177 victims of the Japanese attacks, but all of those who bravely served in World War II. Built over the wreckage of the USS Arizona, the Memorial is a sobering experience where visitors to Hawaii come to pay their respects. Please note: An on-time departure this morning is essential! Any delay will increase wait time at Pearl Harbor and loss of time for the city tour! Also no personal items should be brought on tour, purses, backpacks, shopping bags, large camera cases are not allowed at Pearl Harbor for security reasons and the bus company will not accept liability for any personal items left on the bus. Lunch will be on your own along with shopping time at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet and Marketplace. Admission is $1 and is not included in tour cost. Later, drive through Nu uanu Pali Lookout and Punchbowl, National Cemetery of the Pacific as part of your Honolulu city tour. Nu uanu Pali Lookout - Known as Cool Height Cliff, these 985 foot cliffs overlook the Koolau Mountain Range and they offer one of the best views on Oahu. It was here that King Kamehameha and his warriors defeated the Oahu armies by sending them over these steep, forested cliffs and claiming his victory and uniting the Hawaiian Islands. The breathtaking sights and compelling history of the battle fought here makes for an exciting and memorable experience.
3:00pm Buses return to hotel. 4:45pm Instrument truck at Ft. DeRussy. 5:00pm Buses depart for parade line-up at 6:00pm. Salute to Youth Parade steps off at 6:30pm on Kalakaua Avenue at Ft. DeRussy, ending at Kapiolani Park. Following the parade, board your buses for return to hotel. Only students in parade and assisting adults will board buses spectators should walk to the viewing area in front of the Royal Hawaiian Center. Dinner on own following the parade. Day 4 Thursday, April 9 8:00am Enjoy buffet breakfast. Morning and early afternoon free to explore the Waikiki area. Lunch on your own today. TBA Bus departs hotel to local High School for the final competitions, dinner, exhibition, awards ceremony and dance. Late return to hotel (approximate departure time from high school is 10:15pm). Day 5 Friday, April 10 7:15am Buffet breakfast. 9:00am Bus departs hotel for Diamond Head Hike Diamond Head looms large over the Waikiki. Actually named Le'ahi by Hawaiians, it received its more well-known name in the late 1700's when British seamen saw calcite crystals sparkling in the sunshine and thought they had found diamonds. A hike to the top of Diamond Head takes about an hour over a well-worn path. The summit offers a spectacular 365-degree view of Oahu and is a must trip for photography enthusiasts. Afternoon free, lunch and dinner on your own. Day 6 Saturday, April 11 7:00am Enjoy buffet breakfast.
Morning & afternoon free, lunch on your own. 3:30pm Buses depart for the Paradise Cove Luau 9:45pm Approximate return time to hotel. Day 7 Sunday, April 12 TBA Buffet breakfast. TBA Bag pull. Please place all suitcases on the floor inside the door of your room. Anything you will take with you on the plane (carry-ons, backpacks, purses, etc.) should be placed on the bed. This will let the porters know not to take them. TBA Check-out of the hotel. Please return keys and pay for any incidentals you may have. Report any damage to the front desk prior to departure. TBA Buses depart for Honolulu Airport. When you arrive at the airport, you must claim your luggage and instruments for inspection by the US Agriculture Dept. Once your bags/instruments have cleared inspection you will proceed to the check-in counter to get your boarding passes. Preliminary airline manifest and hotel room list is due on December 15, 2014. Final corrected manifests and lists are due on January 15, 2015 The names submitted must include last name, first name and must match passenger picture ID. Along with names, Homeland Secure flight requires birthdate and gender for each passenger. Any changes as a result of incorrect names may result in change fee and/or additional collection. Commitment on air seats and payment is due on January 15, 2015 once commitment is submitted airfare is completely non-refundable. Name changes are allowed for $200 after this date but no reduction in group size is allowed. Payments received after the due date will be subject to late charges.
