NORWAY International Airshow & Museum Friday, 9 th Monday, 12 th June 80 th ANNIVERSARY OF STAVANGER AIRPORT ~ INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW PROVISIONAL ITINERARY & GENERAL INFORMATION Tour 227745 Norway Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 1 of 6 Judging by the current list of participating aircraft, this show is going to be very good. A must-see surely is the recently restored Starfighter (pictured left), ending a gap of 30 years since an F-104 last flew in the skies over Norway! Norway is the only place to see it as flights outside the country are not allowed. Every 5 years the people at Sola (Stavanger) organise a major airshow and this year it commemorates the 80 th anniversary of the opening of Stavanger Airport. This is a long weekend trip to this 2-day airshow giving you the least expensive opportunity of attending the event and seeing some fabulous aircraft, fixed wing and rotary. Aircraft confirmed participating in the flying programme (not including the static display), are listed below with more to be added over the coming weeks: Ex-Royal Norwegian Air Force F-104 Starfighter 637 Fieseler Storch Aero L-39C Albatross Aerobatic Team Saab Safir Formation Team Norwegian DC-3 optional flights are being offered Frecce Tricolori - Italian National Aerobatic Team s Aermacchi MB-339A 2 DH Vampires of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron Belgian Air Force Solo F-16 Display Norwegian AT-6D Texan PBY-5 Catalina Boeing Stearman Norwegian Noorduyn Norseman Luftwaffe A400 Grizzly Norwegian Spitfire Association s P-51D Mustang Norwegian Yak-50 UH-1E Huey Swedish Air Force JAS-39 Gripen Norwegian Spitfire Association s Spitfire IX Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet In addition, the organisers expect one example of each current operational type in the Royal Norwegian Air Force to attend. Plus, other participants from Europe and the US Air Force: details not yet confirmed. We also go see the 30 aircraft in the excellent collection of the Flyhistorisk Museum Sola including those undergoing restoration; website: www.jaermuseet.no/flyhistorisk/en/about-the-museum/

We plan to fly from London s Heathrow Airport on the scheduled services of British Airways; stay 3 nights in the Quality Stavanger Airport Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis; and are accompanied throughout by one of our Aviation Tour Managers. There are no coach transfers on this tour. Where better to spend your weekend but in beautiful Norway at this fabulous airshow. It s also a perfect long weekend break for non-aviation minded persons! PROVISIONAL ITINERARY (all times local) DAY 1: FRIDAY, 9 th JUNE Between 09:30 10:15 please check in with British Airways who operate out of Terminal 5 at London s Heathrow Airport. Then meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager, and fellow enthusiasts, who will be assembling in the check-in area. Latest check in time is 45 minutes, however, we recommend you arrive at least 90 minutes prior to departure as going through security can take a while: i.e. at 10:15. Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5 Flight: BA 746 Departs: 11:45 Stavanger Arrives: 14:35 On arrival we take the hotel shuttle bus to the Quality Stavanger Airport Hotel located at the airport, less than a mile from the terminal. On-site facilities include a restaurant and bar, gym and Wi-Fi. Website: www.nordicchoicehotels.no/quality/quality-airport-hotel-stavanger/om-hotellet/#om-hotellet DAYS 2 & 3: SATURDAY, 10 th & SUNDAY, 11 th JUNE Two full days at the Sola Airshow. Website: https://solaairshow.no/page/4/ Either with your Tour Manager or on your own, each day we walk to/from the airshow which is only a 15- minutes stroll from the hotel. This is the quickest way to get there and back; previous airshows have attracted between 30-40,000 people so road traffic will be heavy! Gates open at 09:00 with the flying display starting shortly thereafter right through to 17:30. The flying programme includes breaks to allow the arrival and departure of the day s scheduled flights. DAY 4: MONDAY, 12 th JUNE After checking out and putting our luggage in the hotel s storage room, we visit the Flyhistorisk Museum, only a 5-minutes walk from our hotel. On display are 30 civil and military aircraft, including every jet aircraft operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Website: www.flymuseum-sola.no/category/restaurering/ At the beginning of the war, it was used for dropping parachute mines in British waters, normally aiming for narrow passages in close vicinity of the busy ports on the English south coast - the River Thames was also a prime target. Later it was used to attack the Arctic convoys going to Murmansk and Archangel in the Soviet Union as they passed west, northwest and north of Norway. We will also be shown their current restoration projects: a PBY-5A Catalina, Caproni Ca310, Arado Ar 66, AS332 Super Puma, Fairchild Cornell and an Me-109G! Plus, (pictured left and below), a Heinkel HE-115. It is believed only 138 were produced and this is the only salvaged He-115 in existence and due to its excellent condition, it is possible that eventually it may be restored to full flying condition! A 3-seater seaplane, built before and during WWII, it was operated by the Luftwaffe, Royal Norwegian Navy Air Service, Royal Swedish Air Force, Royal Finnish Air Force - and even the Royal Air Force! Walking back to the hotel either with your Tour Manager or at a time of your own choosing - we retrieve our luggage, catch the airport shuttle bus to the terminal and check in with British Airways for Tour 227745 Norway Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 2 of 6
