August 19, 2014 The Timberline Camporee Committee and the Running Antelope Chapter of the Order of the Arrow invite you to take part in the 2014 Timberline District Fall Camporee to be held September 19-21, 2014. The Camporee will take place at the Timberline Campground on Kenosha Pass, near Grant, CO. The theme for this year s Camporee is Colorado History. Most of the activities will be themed around a Colorado s rich history and Mountain Man historical adventure. Pioneering, Indian Lore and associated activities are some of the most exciting and fun of the outdoor adventures in scouting. The 2014 Fall Camporee will allow Scouts to test their Black powder shooting skills, tomahawk throwing, and archery skills with other challenging events. The Camporee also offers a unique opportunity for Cub Scouts, especially Webelos. Troops are encouraged to invite Webelos to the Camporee to camp with them, participate in the events and observe Scout Troops in action. Cub Scouts and parents/guardians will have the opportunity to participate in BB guns, archery, and tomahawk throwing. Scouts unable to camp overnight are also encouraged to participate in Saturday s program. It is our intention to offer a quality Scouting program for all Scouts taking advantage of this opportunity. Come enjoy a visit to the Camporee and be prepared for a fun time. A special patch and other awards will be presented to every participant. 2014 FALL CAMPOREE GUIDELINES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION A. GUIDELINES: The rules and guiding principles for the 2014 Camporee shall be the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Safety guidelines shall meet or exceed those outlined in the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting. B. REGISTRATION: Troops must register online at www.timberlinedistrict.com. Due to the capacity of the facility, this event will be limited to 400 participants. Registration will be restricted to Timberline District units until September 1, at which time, registration will be available to all interested units. No Refunds BOY SCOUT - CAMPING : Early registration runs August 20 through September 11, 2014. The early registration fee for all Boy Scouts and Adults camping overnight is $15.00. Regular registration is September 12 18 and the fee $20.00. Walk up registration at the event will be $25.00 NOTE: There is no guarantee of event patches for Walk up registrations. BOY SCOUT - ONE DAY PARTICIPATION: Early registration runs August 20 through September 11, 2014. The early registration fee for Boy Scouts and Adults attending the Program Day only is $12.00. Regular registration is September 12 18 and the fee $15.00. Walk up registration at the event will be $20.00 NOTE: No guarantee of event patches for Walk ups. CUB SCOUT & PARENT/GUARDIAN - ONE DAY PARTICIPATION: Cub Scout early one day registration runs August 20 through September 11, 2014 and is $10.00 per Adult/Cub Scout pair. The regular day only registration fee for Adult Cub/Scout pair attending the Program Day only is $15.00 September 12-18. Walk up day registration fee is $15.00 per Adult/Cub Scout pair. NOTE: There is no guarantee of event patches for Walk ups. Early registration is highly encouraged so that we have accurate numbers for a quality program to be planned. Troops that do not plan to register before the event are asked to e-mail Steve Yexley at smyexley@comcast.net with the approximate number of participants so proper arrangements can be made. C. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: The Timberline Group campground is located in the Pike National Forest. From Denver, Colorado, take Highway 285 southwest to Park County Rd. 58. Turn right at County Rd. 58 and follow road to Forest Road 125. Turn right and follow road about 0.5 miles to the campground entrance. Look for the yellow signs with TIMBERLINE in black on them. GPS Coordinates: 39.43194, -105.76194 or 39 25'55"N, 105 45'43"W D. TIMBERLINE CAMPOREE EVENT RULES: Please follow these additional event rules: 1. Absolutely no personal firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, etc. may be brought to the Camporee 2. No RV s or campers are permitted for this event. 3. You must display the camporee Parking Permit while on the camporee grounds 4. No pets are allowed during this event. 5. No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs are permitted. 6. E. Check-in Procedures: Check-In on Friday will be from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday from 7:30 am to 9:00 am (for day visitors). For Saturday arrivals, please check the Camporee Program Schedule and, if possible, arrive before the program day starts. Units expecting to arrive before 3:00 p.m. on Friday should communicate with Steve Yexley, 2013 Camporee Chair 303.506.9210 smyexley@comcast.net. At check-in, each unit should be prepared to present the following: 1. A Final Unit (Page 14) and Webelos Roster (Page 16). These finalized rosters will be used to assign Patrols to the event schedule. Everyone listed on the roster will receive program souvenirs. 2. Signed Class 1 Colorado Boy Scout Camps Health and Medical Record (page 15) for each person listed on the roster. This form is included in this packet. No medical record forms will be returned. Every participant (youth or adult) must have a medical record form on file in order to participate in the event. 3. Registration Information and Fees Recorded. The registrar will have information on registrations and fees paid online or at the Scout Office. If you are late to register, bring your receipt, or a check (or cash) to cover fees. 4. Drink Mix. Each unit attending the Camporee is asked to provide one container of drink mix per Patrol, at time of check in. F. Check-Out Procedures: Each unit must have its camp site inspected by staff prior to departure. Upon successful inspection, the unit leader should go to the HQ Check-Out Area to pick up their program souvenir envelope containing ribbons, patches, etc. Please pick up this envelope before leaving. Follow the Outdoor Code in preparing your site for check-out. All units need to be checked out by noon on Sunday. Saturday Check-Out: Troops needing to check out Saturday should specify their check-out time on their Unit Roster. When ready to check-out, request a staff member at HQ to inspect your campsite. Units should have their campsites inspected before it gets dark. Upon satisfactory inspection, the unit leader should go to the HQ Check-Out Area to pick up G. Parking Vehicles and Unloading Equipment: Parking permits (on page 7) must be displayed on your dashboard at all times. Please follow all signs, directions and prompts made by staff while driving and parking your vehicle, and please be patient and courteous. Current plans (subject to change for various reasons) allow for driving of vehicles to campsites for unloading, but they must be moved to the parking area as soon as they are unloaded. The number of vehicles allowed into the camping area at any given time may be limited to prevent congestion. While each Troop may have one trailer in their campsite, absolutely no vehicles will be allowed to remain at the campsite. If persons in your unit have special needs requiring a vehicle at your site, please send a request to Steve Yexley smyexley@comcast.net so that proper arrangements can be made in advance. H. First Aid: Emergency medical services will be provided by Venture Crew 911 during the Camporee. They are available for all major first aid needs. Each Unit should also have a good first aid kit in their campsite to handle all minor first aid occurrences. I. Campsites: Campsites will be assigned based on when units register and troop size indicated at registration. A campsite map will be given to you at time of Check-In. Please remember that no tents, tarps, etc. may be tied to trees or structures. J. Cooking & Fires: Any changes to the Fire Restrictions will be announced when checking in. Wood and/or charcoal fires are allowed, as long as they are in containers that are off the ground. No unattended fires will be allowed. There must be no visible evidence of fire when you leave (all ashes must be taken with you). Units need to supply their own wood for campfires. No wood may be removed from the ground or trees on the premises. Units are encouraged to use propane for cooking. K. Water: Each unit is responsible for bringing their own water. Water is not available at the site so each unit must bring sufficient water for consumption and cooking/cleaning to cover their entire stay. L. Trash: This is a low impact event. Everything brought in must be packed out, including trash, garbage, ashes, etc. Do not put any of these into the campground s trash/garbage containers or leave trash at the site. M. Portable Toilets: Portable toilets will be located near campsites and activity areas. Please remind your scouts to be courteous, keep the toilets clean, and observe posted restrictions for "Women Only and "Staff Only." Troops are responsible for providing hand washing facilities at their site. Please advise staff when additional toilet paper or other service is required. Information on facilities for persons with special needs is available at HQ. N. Drink Stations: Drink stations will be available during Saturday's program. Each participant should add a cup to their 10 essentials. Every patrol needs to bring a container of drink mix. Please list this on your Unit/Troop Roster in the space provided. These will be collected during Check-In. O. Quiet Time: All lights and fires are to be extinguished by 10:30 pm. As a courtesy to others, please do not disturb other peoples peace and quiet at any time and observe QUIET TIME from 10:30 pm to 6 am. In order to enhance everyone's experience, generators are not permitted at any time. DO IT YOURSELF PARKING PERMIT To expedite the arrival process, all drivers are encouraged to fill in the 2014 Camporee Parking Permit below. Drivers for troops that have preselected their campsite and are displaying their Parking Permit upon arrival at the campground, will enter through the express lane. OPPORTUNITIES FOR TROOPS If you are interested, we are inviting troops to organize either the flag ceremony or the Camporee campfire. Again, first come, first served, so be the first to contact Larry Svoboda lsvobod@gmail.net. In addition, we are looking for Chaplain-aide or several Chaplain-aides to coordinate the Camporee Sunday service. Troops that volunteer for Opening flag ceremony, Saturday campfire program, Chaplain -aide coordinating Sunday worship service will be given campsite preference. Show the other troops (and the Camporee staff) how to do these programs right. We will need help at each activity for things like crowd control, checking passports, etc. We are asking each unit to provide one adult per patrol to help with these kinds of things. We are striving to make this the most exciting Camporee ever and your help will make this possible. Special requests: If there are participants in your Unit that require special accommodations, please notify Steve Yexley smyexley@comcast.net so the necessary arrangements can be made. Every participant will be issued a Camporee Passport. The passport will entitle each Scout and adult to a certain number of shots at each range. If time permits, Scouts wanting to do additional shooting will be able to purchase tickets for $1 each. Archery and tomahawks can be repeated without cost as long as there aren t people waiting who have not had a chance to shoot. The passport will also indicate the range the Scout or adult needs to start at. When they are finished at that range, they need to proceed to the next range on the passport. The ranges will be open all day except for lunch (see upcoming schedule). The passport for Webelos and parents will allow a certain number of BB s and additional shooting is available with $1 tickets. As above, archery and tomahawks can be repeated without cost as long as there aren t people waiting who have not had a chance to shoot. The Webelos BB gun range and the Black Powder gun range locations are yet to be determined, although Webelos can travel with their host Troop. FIREARMS, WHEN USED IN A SAFE AND CONSCIENTIOUS MANNER ARE A GREAT SOURCE OF FREEDOM AND RECREATION...HOWEVER, ONE CARE- LESS MOMENT CAN RESULT IN TRAGEDY! PLEASE, DON T EVER FORGET IT! Please review the following basic firearms safety guidelines with all the camporee participants before arriving. Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and strongly recommended for spectators. If you have your own eye and ear protection, plan on bringing it to use at the Camporee. Shooters are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Never handle firearms until instructed to do so by the range officer. Unsafe and/or unsportsmanlike conduct may be grounds for revocation of shooting privileges. Specific rules and regulations of various disciplines will be explained and/or posted at the start of each organized shooting activity. NRA safety rules will be followed at all times. All participants will need to know these rules before they are allowed to enter a range. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. FRONTIER MEAL COOKING CONTEST THE CHALLENGE- COOK A CREATIVE FRONTIER DISH THE JUDGES HAVE NEVER EATEN BEFORE!! PRIZE AND BRAGGING RIGHTS TO THE WINNER!! THE RULES: You may use any ingredients but are required to cook in a scout cooking method. The entry must be prepared by Scouts at your campsite and can t be made before the Camporee. A serving needs to be brought to headquarters between 6:30 7:00 PM for judging. The top three meals determined by the judges will be awarded. The official entry form (on next page) listing ingredients (including quantities), preparation directions and cooking instructions must be submitted with the completed entry. Please print clearly, the winning entries are posted on the district website. THE JUDGING CRITERIA: Entries will judged on the following criteria: Presentation: Does it have eye appeal? Does it look like it would be good to eat? Does it relate to the Camporee theme? Aroma: Does it smell good? Taste: Is it pleasing to the palette? Recipe: Are the ingredients and directions clearly stated? Could the entry be duplicated using the instructions? Overall: Is it something different? What is your overall impression? Judging will be performed by a panel of independent youth with experience in eating. DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS FINAL! Results will be announced at the Saturday evening campfire and the winning recipes will be posted at the district website - www.timberlinedistrict.com.
