The Carara Biological Reserve is one of the most popular National Parks to visit in Costa Rica due to the immense amount of biodiversity found in the area and its easy accessibility. This protected area is home to 48% of Costa Rica s bird species, and is also an ideal location to spot scarlet macaws, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, antbirds and manakins. The park is in a transition zone between the tropical dry forest and rain forest and protects the river basin of the Tarcoles river, where you will be able to spot crocodiles. Your guide will share stories about the parks history and the rich biodiversity found in this area. Considered by most to be one of the most breathtaking sites in the entire country, the Poas Volcano sits high above 14,000 acres (5,666 ha) of various habitats and life zones which make up Poas Volcano NationalExcept for the area around the main caldera, the park is full of dense vegetation and small wildlife. Sightings of the 79 species of birds that have been identified inside the protected zone including the quetzal, emerald toucanet, black guan, sparrow, hummingbird and robin are common.
