Powder skiing at Lotte Arai Lotte Arai Resort Tokyo skyline Our 14-day adventure will showcase some of the most popular and renowned ski resorts and sights in Japan! We will begin in Sapporo (www.sapporo.travel), Japan s fifth largest city by population and capital of the mountainous northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. Our hotel will be the 4-star Excel Hotel Tokyu (www.tokyuhotelsjapan.com/en/hotel/te/te_sappo), within walking distance of the world-famous annual Sapporo Snow Festival (www.snowfes.com), one of Japan s largest winter events. During the festival, Sapporo is transformed in to a winter dreamland with over 200 snow and ice sculptures on display. After our day in Sapporo, we will travel by motor coach transfer to Niseko Village (www.niseko-village.com), situated at the base of Mt. Niseko Annupuri. NIseko has long been known as the powder mecca of Japan domestically, but it was only in the 1990s when murmurs began circulating of it being an untapped skiing Shangri-La. Today, it is an internationally-acclaimed ski resort known for its large variety of groomed runs for all skiing abilities as well as its phenomenal backcountry skiing and bountiful, light, dry powder. Snowfall averages an incredible 59 feet annually! Siberian winds interacting with moisture from the Sea of Japan provides a snow cover for Niseko Village that is among the driest and lightest in the world. It is part of Niseko United, one of Japan s largest ski resorts, which comprises four interconnected ski areas Annupuri, Grand Hirafu, Niseko Annapuri and Hanazono. They encompass 2,191 acres of skiable terrain and offer 30 miles of groomed slopes, 70 runs, 29 lifts and gondolas, plus 12 square miles of non-officially marked backcountry. An all-mountain lift pass allows access to the entire region as well as free rides on the intermountain shuttle bus. We will enjoy six nights at the luxurious, ski-in/ski-out 5-star Hilton Niseko Village (www.hilton.com/niseko). A gondola next to the hotel will whisk us to the top of the ski area in seven minutes. The hotel has won Japan s Best Ski Hotel at the World Ski Awards for four consecutive years, 2013 2016, and features several bars and restaurants, shops, a fitness center and spa. The onsen (thermal waters renowned for being beneficial to general health and well-being) at the hotel include two bathing areas; an indoor bath on the upper level with magnificent views of Mt. Yotei (the Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido Island) and a spacious outdoor bath fronted by a colorful carp-filled pond. From Niseko, we will travel by motor coach back to New Chitose Airport for a flight to Niigita on the southern island of Honshu. A motor coach will bring us to the 5-star Lotte Arai Resort (www.lottearairesort.com), where we will spend three nights. This exclusive, lavish resort has undergone major renovation and reinvention and its re-opening date this December 2017 is just in time for us to take advantage of what may become the new IT destination resort of Japan for international powder hounds. It is most well-known for its ten avalanche-controlled advanced areas left ungroomed for powder seekers. It also offers 5 ski lifts, over 3000 vertical and 11 groomed runs on 388 acres. With all of these options, we will easily be able to fill up two full days of skiing. We will be staying at the Inn, one of two lodging properties at the resort. It features a lounge, bakery and souvenir shop. At the Lodge, there are two more restaurants, a lounge, karaoke bar and library café. In addition, there are indoor and outdoor onsens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a fullservice spa. From Lotte Arai, we will journey by bus to Nagano, with guided visits of the Snow Monkey Park (en.jigokudaniyaenkoen.co.jp) and the 7 th century Zenko-ji Temple (www.zenkoji.jp) along the way. From Nagano, we will take the bullet train to Tokyo where we will spend three nights at the 4-star Akasaka Excel Hotel Tokyu. (www.tokyuhotelsjapan.com/en/hotel/te/te_akasa). We will have two full days to explore this bustling city.
