Third announcement The Instituto de Investigaciones de Viandas Tropicales (INIVIT) from the Agriculture Ministry of the Cuban Republic has the pleasure to communicate that the Third International Symposium on roots, rhizomes, tubers, plantains, bananas and papaya will be held from 20-23 October, 2015 in the northern keys of Villa Clara province, Cuba. The INIVIT'2015 Symposium would be a great opportunity for academic, scientific and professional exchanges between researchers, growers, specialists and representatives of different institutions and countries as a mean of promoting the development, updating and application of scientific knowledge in agriculture. Ramón Pérez Hernández Scientific Program The program includes conferences by experts from prestigious national and international institutions to address updated themes and workshops for oral presentation of papers, as well as discussion and display of posters. In this edition, the inclusion of other crops of economic interest such as fruit, vegetables and grains will be encouraged. The scientific sessions will allow a wide exchange between participants on the following symposium topics: Plant breeding. Management and conservation of genetic biodiversity. Plant biotechnology applied to genetic improvement and mass propagation of plants. Systems for high quality seed production. Sustainable agro-ecological management of pests. Products and technologies. Technologies for sustainable crop production. Tackling climate change. Agricultural Innovation for local development. Family farming. Gender and Rural Extension. Potential crops for human food and animal feed. Agricultural Industry. As part of the Symposium, other activities will be held: Pre-Symposium Courses, launching of scientific literature and satellite meetings of associations, organizations, networks and working groups to address updated relevant topics for the Cuban agriculture and other regions.

Pre-Symposium Course Three Pre-Symposium courses will be developed: Technologies and integral production in papaya crop. Integrated pest management for a sustainable agriculture. Role of Agricultural Biotechnology in Food Security. Management of genetic resources collections of roots, rhizomes, tubers, plantains and bananas in field conditions. Courses will be taught by prestigious professors and course participants must be at least 10. In all courses, certificates of participation will be given. Cost of each Pre-Symposium Course: 50.00 CUC Languages Spanish and English. Presentation Participation may take the form of oral presentation or poster. Those interested in participating should submit an abstract to the Organizing Committee in electronic format to the email account created for the occasion before September 15, 2015. The Scientific Committee will select the papers and define the presentation form and the acceptance will be communicated to the authors before September 30, 2015 by email. Abstracts must be submitted in letter sheet (8 ½ x 11" or 21,59 x 27,94 cm), with 2,5 cm margins, in Arial font and size 12, single-spaced printed text, and a maximum of 250 words. The text must contain the theme's current situation, objectives, methodologies and results. The paper title will be centered in capital letters and bold; the authors with the presenter's name and surname underlined should be separated by two spaces after the title. Then, the institution (s) to which he (she) belongs, postal address and country are identified. The email address for correspondence must be included. An extended summary of up to five (5) pages from papers that are accepted should be submitted to the Organizing Committee and requirements will be communicated to the authors in due course. Posters will have a total area no larger than 0,90 m (width) x 1,00 m (length).title letters should be 2,5 cm high as minimum. The name of the author and / or poster presenter and the institution name in a smaller letter size must be also included. The email address of the presenter and/or author (s) for correspondence should be listed in the poster.
