What is the Da Nang Urban Development Forum? Da Nang City is well known as the host city for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Week in November 2017. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recognized Da Nang as "the most livable city in the country, a must-visit tourism destination, and a major investment attraction," at the business-matching Invest Da Nang 2017 Forum on October 15, 2017. Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Da Nang in 2013, the City of Yokohama conducted the Data collection survey on sustainable and integrated urban development in Da Nang, with both cities receiving support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The City of Yokohama continues to support the City of Da Nang to mitigate urban environmental issues that it has overcome in the past by matching techniques and technology from its local enterprises. The Da Nang Urban Development Forum is held alternating in each city to share visions and action plans promoting sustainable development. What is Yokohama City? Population: 3,733,234 (as of October 1, 2017) Area:435.29km² Yokohama is a beautiful international port city located in the Greater Tokyo Area. It is full of diverse attractions, including not only a modern waterfront symbolized in its Minato Mirai 21 area, but also expanses of residential districts in suburban areas covered with rich greens and agricultural land. The opening of Yokohama s port to the world in 1859 triggered its subsequent development. Since then, Yokohama has developed into the nation s second largest city with a population of 3.7 million while overcoming various challenges, such as the Great Kanto Earthquake, rapid population growth, and environmental pollution. The know-how and technical prowess in city administration developed through this process provided the foundation for its contributions to the international community today. In recent years, the city has hosted many international conferences, such as the APEC Leaders Meeting. In addition, Yokohama welcomed a total of 31.34 million tourists to the city in 2013. 2
Themes Eco friendly buildings & factories with innovative Yokohama technologies New Plans for developing Industrial Zones in Da Nang and the suggestions from Yokohama enterprises Compared to electricity use in 2014, 2016 exceeded 2.5 billion kwh, an increase of 11.0%. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued regulations on energy consumption standards in steel, beverage, and other industries that require production facilities to develop roadmaps to meet certain requirements in the period up to 2020 and 2021 through to 2025, and match the city s energy saving programs by 2020. We will promote energy saving projects and technologies to develop a true Green City. On 18 April 2017, Prime Minister issued Dispatch No. 555/TTg-CN approving the adjusted master plan on development of Da Nang IZs by 2020, in which more than 900ha will be developed, including 3 IZs: Hoa Cam Phase 2(125.10ha), Hoa Nhon( 405.49ha) and Hoa Ninh (400.02ha.) Da Nang will share its vision, and enterprises from Yokohama will make proposals that add value to build competitive IZs. On going projects under city to city collaboration: Solid waste management and sludge treatment On going projects under city to city collaboration: How to redevelop Tho Quang area more attractive More than 700 tons of domestic solid waste are collected and buried every day, and the Khanh Son Landfill site is estimated to reach maximum capacity by 2020. Through the JICA Partnership Project and Yokohama experience, Yokohama will respond to proposals from the 6 th Forum in Da Nang on solid waste management and sludge treatment. The Au Thuyen and Tho Quang fishery ports have an onshore area of 24 hectares and a water surface of 58 hectares, including storm shelters for fishing boats, the fishing port, and a wholesale fish market. A comprehensive master plan is needed to develop not only this area but also greater Tho Quang. Da Nang will share its vision for the Tho Quang area, and Yokohama will help formulate a master plan to improve efficiency at the fishery port. Panel Donors will introduce financing schemes to implement these potential projects in Da Nang. Mr. Son from DPI and representatives from Yokohama City will also join in the panel discussion. 3
