The North Sea Advisory Council The Grumpy old men from the fisheries and the young academics from the engos!
More and more difficult to produce and provide advice in the NSAC.! With the Landing Obligation (LO) as the remarkable exemption! Maybe because of the regionalised process and the constructive cooperation with the Scheveningen Group:
The Scheveningen Group: o The EU countries with quotas in the North Sea: Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and the UK.
But for me the learning is simple: Because of a constructive will to cooperate the NSAC has been quite influental on the implementation of the Landing Obligation in the North Sea up til now! And a positive effect relevant for the future: The NSAC is regarded by the Scheveningen Group as a serious player!
And who am I to say this: Kenn Skau Fischer Policy Advisor for the Danish Fishermen PO Member of the ExCom of the NSAC Chairman of the NSAC Skagerrak and Kattegat Working Group Member of the LO Focus Group in the NSAC Part of the NSAC delegation to many technical meetings in the Scheveningen Group
Since 2014 the NSAC has produced 11 (at least) papers/letters on the LO! (more or less half of the total work of advice in the same period) The latest work: Monitoring and Control under the Landing Obligation Phasing of Landing Obligation Letter Implementation of LO Implications for cod plaice saithe whiting in 2018 Introduction of Plaice to the Landing Obligation (and more to come..)

Does work like this influence the phasing in?
The LO will be a challenge in many fisheries in 2018 with the LO for COD, SAITHE and WHITING! The NSAC can highlight challenges and provide possible solutions but any action is for the Scheveningen Group and the Commission! But we must continue to do our best to support an implementation of the LO that makes it possible also to have an economic sustainable fisheries after January 2019. And UK has a very important role here!
A storm is under way!
