Start Time: 6:05 pm Officers Present: Barbara Hughes, Pres, Melinda Setterman, VP; Cyndi Denny, Sec; Joyce Jewell, Treas. Directors Present: Judy Clark, Steve Denny, Billi-Jo Swanson, Danette Hayden, Ann Squire, Cindy McKievick Absent: None (Sent around meeting sign-up sheet) Welcome new member Jeri Whiting attending her first meeting. ****PRESIDENTS MESSAGE**** I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the interesting meetings we have had this past year, while being President. This has been quite a learning curve for me and I appreciate all the support I have received from members this past year. We have an awesome club. I especially want to thank my current Board for the great times we have had at our BOD meetings and the help you all have given to me and the club in making this year a success in representing the membership. Approval of May 18, 2017 General Minutes (included in June 2017 Newsletter) No corrections of the May general meeting minutes were received prior to Wednesday, June 14, 2017, as asked by emails sent to membership on June 8, 2017 and again on June 12.Approval of May general minutes: 1 st motion, Cindy McKievick; 2 nd Theresa Bitondo; all approved. TREASURER S REPORT: Joyce presented the treasurer s report to the club. An audit report for July 2016-June 2017 will be given at the July General meeting. Barbara Hughes asked membership if any members other than the BOD wanted to join the Financial Audit committee with Joyce Jewell, Barbara Hughes and Steve Denny. Linda Hunt volunteered to join the committee. MEMBERSHIP: We currently have 140 members as of 6/15/17. Debbie and Clay Sellers, the parents of our newest member, Kamlyn, have joined the club. Welcome. OLD BUSINESS T- Shirts & Hats: Melinda Setterman will be taking over from Cindy McKievick. Due to some T-shirt color availability changes from the vendor, there is a delay in receiving the order that has been placed. This is very frustrating but beyond our control.

T-shirts and Hats, continued The new LFR hats were brought to the meeting for distribution. 16 of the 24 hats ordered were sold at the meeting, including those pre-ordered. The black hats seem to be the popular choice among our members. We have a few extra hats available for $20 each, if anyone is interested in purchasing one, please contact Melinda at melindasetterman@cox.net. There is a limited color selection left at this time. Bylaws: The bylaws, approved at the May 18 meeting, were sent out to membership on Monday, June 12, 2017. May Horse Camp: Las Vaqueros May 25-30, 2017 (Thursday Tuesday morning/5 nights) All 40 corrals were sold with 39 occupied. The Whiting s were unable to attend. We also had two no show day riders. LFR provided the Tri-tip (cooked by Steve Denny), with members contributing salads, side dishes and desserts. The meal was delicious. There were approximately 60 people at the potluck dinner. The weather was wonderful although Thursday and Friday nights were cold, but it became quite pleasant for the remaining camp days. We did have a couple of unplanned dismounts so Nancy Sumerel and Linda Hunt did the walk of shame to serve chocolate cake and cupcakes to membership during the meeting. We are just thankful that although severe bruising was sustained by Nancy and bruising with two broken ribs to Linda, it was not more serious. We are glad to see both of them at our meeting. Freckles was found but Linda is still looking for her saddle. Linda Hunt thanked everyone for their help and support. Additional thanks given to Karen Ensall who contacted the key people to get the search rolling. Eagle Rock Club Ride Saturday, June 10 We had perfect weather, cool at the start, then warmed up to 74 degrees by the end of the ride. We had 12 riders attend and all had a great time. Pictures will be posted on the LFR website and Facebook too. NEW BUSINESS Barbara ask if anyone needed to sign the Photo Release Form for photos to be used on the LFR website or Facebook. Joyce asked why/what purpose for the photo releases which was explained that we need to be able to modify pictures for newsletter, FB and the website. The photo release is in effect until revoked by the member. Barbara gave the Annual Report of Activities for this past year, July 2016 to June 2017: Barbara highlighted the various monthly trail rides that the club sponsored. In October 2016 we had our Fall Horse Camp at Las Vaqueros with the Saturday night s dinner catered by Descanso Junction. In November 2016 came the Ride with a Guest at Windfall Ranch, scheduled there for the first time. We had 27 members and 6 guests who join us for a great ride on the surrounding trails with a subway sandwich lunch afterwards. We also had our fundraiser poker ride, which was again a great success. In December 2016 we met at the Lakeside Community Center for the Christmas Party. There were about 50 in attendance. The club furnished the meat, and the members brought side dishes and dessert. There was a fun gift exchange for those who wanted to participate.

Annual Report, continued.. In addition, for the second half of 2016, club members participated in various parades throughout the year which were coordinated by Billie-Jo Swanson, Parade Director. It was a great ending for 2016 with the La Jolla Christmas parade. Then came 2017 where the year started off with a few scheduled club rides which were rained out. In February a hearty group of LFR members did brave the bad weather forecast and went camping at the annual President s Day weekend in February at Stagecoach. It turned out that the weather there was better than the weather at home, a few chilly nights, but we were able to ride every day. Stagecoach provided entertainment for Saturday night that was enjoyed by all campers at the facility. Those who attended were glad they did. March brought a club ride to Boulder Oaks and a campout in Campo at Camp Lockett. This provided the club an opportunity to experience a new camping location, with good trails along the Mexican Border and Pacific Crest Trail to explore. In April, the Lakeside Frontier Riders represented the club at the Lakeside Western Days Parade. Several members were also instrumental in helping with trail maintenance alongside of the Marines and SDMBA for the Stowe Trail that is now opened for use if you have the proper permits. It is off of the Sycamore Canyon Preserve and will go all the way to Santee. The first weekend in May brought more members helping with trail maintenance alongside of Back Country Horsemen s San Diego Unit working on Las Vaqueros camp grounds and the West Side Trail clearing. A few members also represented LFR in the Ramona Parade. And then of course our horse camp at Las Vaqueros over Memorial Day weekend. On June 10, there was a club ride to Eagle Rock in Warner Springs that was enjoyed by 12 riders on a day of perfect weather. Also during this last year we were able to purchase a laptop for LFR s financial records to be safely stored, as well as reaching our goals of being more involved with trail maintenance. This consisted of not only working on trails, but helping with purchasing tools and equipment for others to maintain trails using money donated from our Poker Ride. We also helped several organizations in the community with our Poker Ride donations, such as therapeutic riding centers, rescue organizations and veterans with Horses for Heroes. Lastly, the bylaws were updated and approved by membership. Sounds like a successful 2016/2017 LFR Year! And now here we are again at June Election time and hoping for another successful LFR year for 2017-2018. Officer/BOD Nominations. The following were nominated at the May 18 General Meeting: Officers: President, Barbara Hughes; Vice President, Melinda Setterman; Secretary, Cyndi Denny; Treasurer, Joyce Jewell. Directors: Judy Clark, Danette Hayden, Ann Squire, Steve Denny, & Patti Karcher Barbara Hughes open the floor for nominations. There were none submitted. Barbara Hughes thanked both Cindy McKievick and Billi- Jo Swanson, for their service on the BOD for the 2016-17 term and presented both with gift cards. Officer/BOD Elections: Written ballots were passed out for the voting record. Jody Harvey and Theresa Bitondo counted the votes and reported to the floor: 28 Ballots turned in, in, no write in s, Majority approved nominees for 2017-18 term, with 28 votes approved for the President and VP, 27 votes for Secretary, 28 votes for Treasurer, and 28 votes for the Directors. Congratulations to the new BOD.

TRAILS REPORTS: Barbara Hughes asked if anyone have anything to report? LAKESIDE FRONTIER RIDERS Karen Ensall reported the following: Blossom Valley Riders contacted her about LFR helping Blossom Valley Riders in maintaining the Flume Trail. Everyone will have to bring tools, and the brush will have to be removed. It was commented that it is too hot, so it was suggested to work in the morning. Cindy McKievick also added to the discussion about maintenance for Flume Trail. Barbara asked Cindy M. and Karen to coordinate this activity and needs for this project with Blossom Valley Riders. Karen also reported that the Border Patrol is very busy patrolling Imperial Beach on quads. They are polite and stop/turn off their quads when they encounter equestrians. Stowe Trail: Cyndi Denny reported that the Historic Stowe Trail connecting Santee Lakes to south Sycamore Canyon/Gooden Ranch is open to trail users with permits. Information of accessing this reopened trail will be sent out to members and posted on the LFR website. Equestrians need to apply for an annual permit at the Miramar Military Base. If equestrians are caught on Stowe Trail without a permit, they will probably get a warning ticket, but be aware that the Marine patrol can have Animal Control confiscate your horse, so please get the required permit. The Mission Trails staging area was mentioned but it needs to be reviewed for access to Stowe Trail. Barbara read the notice from the Lakeside s River Park Conservancy (LRPC) about reporting any illegal activity off trail at the culvert at Riverside North entrance into the park. Please contact LRPC 619.443.4770 or call 911. Open Forum: Clinics: Jody Childs has offered to hold a clinic and give us part of the proceeds. Would the club be interested in sponsoring such a clinic? Laurie Curran and Kammi suggested asking Darin at River Valley Ranch (Hering Ranch) if we can use the new arena. We need to find out the cost. Would the club be interested in having an Equestrian/ Bike clinic? Vicki Kruss of TRVEA would teach the clinic. This would be to educate both equestrians and bike riders on proper etiquette when encountering each other. A few hands of interest and a suggestion to invite Freckles. Fundraiser: Joyce Jewell announced that Lakeside Commerce is holding a fundraiser spaghetti dinner at the rodeo grounds on Sat, June 17 @ 5:30 pm to support the new library. Tickets are $8.00 for adults. It was asked what happens to old library, comments included old library to be taken down by Parks and Rec to create new entrance to the lake or to be made into a teen center. New library to be built on Lakeside Ave. across from the old Vons. Parade Uniform: Billi-Jo Swanson made the suggestion of wearing gray pants instead of the dark jeans during the summer parades. After discussion, the general consensus was to leave the parade uniform as is. SAVE THE DATES: LFR Events: Descanso Parade Saturday, July 8 Contact Billi-Jo 619-990-6118.
