Beverly Hills Public Safety Activity Report November 30 December 12, 2017 The Public Safety Department is currently looking for applicants for Public Safety Officer. Please visit our website, www.beverlyhillspolice.com to see if you qualify. Officers went through Taser recertification and official orders. Officers went through Standardized Field Sobriety Refresher for Drunk and Drugged drivers. Please be mindful of walkers, joggers and kids in the streets. As you snow blow and shovel snow away make sure it ends up on your property, not back on the street. The DPW is doing a great job 24/7 attempting to get the streets plowed. If there is a snow emergency please do not park in the street. Beverly Hills Public Safety responded to a two-story commercial building fire in Berkley. The status of the fire is unknown at this time. Three Public Safety Officers graduated from the Macomb Police Academy, PSOs Andrew Boring, Nick Stewart and Kyle Kraft will start with the Public Safety Department immediately. The Police Academy is 17 weeks long and the recruits learn about law, traffic codes and many other problem solving skills during the days there. All three are also certified firefighters and will be working with a Field Training Officer for the next year. PSO Stewart received the Physical Fitness award from the Police Academy as well as kudos for being the Squad leader of the group. The Squad leader is a responsible leadership position in which he answers questions and directs all recruits on an everyday basis. To be picked as a Squad leader is an honor and PSO Nick Stewart did a fine job as did PSOs Boring and Kraft. Southfield Twp. Clerk Sharon Tischler and the local Lions Club donated money for residents who cannot afford a Knox box. The Knox boxes have been purchased and we now have those for the public. Two supervisors attended Fire Company Officer School. Community Information listed below: Unsolicited calls are on the rise for phishing scams. Never provide any information over the phone for unsolicited calls, and if you do not recognize the number, do not answer it. If you see something, say something. We encourage our community to be our "eyes and ears" for suspicious activity in the Village. Consider a locking mailbox, as the USPS and Financial Institutions have determined mail theft is on the rise in Oakland County. Never provide personal information over the phone or via email, when a call or email is received unexpectedly. Financial institutions will never call and ask for personal information. Do not fall victim to a check cashing scam where someone sends money for payment of goods or services, and requests the difference to be sent back. Always lock vehicle doors and remove personal items of value. Never leave personal items out in public places where thieves could steal them. Slow down during morning and evening traffic as school has started. Leave exterior lights on overnight.

Visit our website homepage and click on the upper right side of the page for Identity Theft Information. There have been two recent incidents involving mail theft. Mail is being stolen from boxes, checks are either being taken or photographed, and then the mail is ending up in other mailboxes after the information is obtained. The thieves will then electronically alter the information, and electronically deposit the checks to an account, resulting in the loss of money. It is important to refrain from placing outgoing mail in boxes when money is involved. Additionally, if your checks are stolen, contact the bank immediately, place stops or cancel the checks, and request the account be closed.
