La Fortuna Our first stop on this 10 day adventure will be in the town of La Fortuna, in the mountainous region north of San Jose. We will be staying at the Arenal Springs Hotel. These suites are a great place to see the Arenal Volcano. Each room is surrounded with exotic gardens, beautiful flowers and a variety of wildlife. (http://arenalspringshotel.com/) While at La Fortuna we will be hiking, canyoning, and visiting the Arenal Volcano Hot Springs. We will also spend a day exploring and learning about Rancho Margot, a fascinating carbon negative ranch (http://ranchomargot.org/). Rancho Margot is a leader in the field of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The owner, Juan Sostheim, is a pioneer in the area of eco-tourism. CNN recently sponsored a special on the Ranch and its cutting edge approach to sustainable living. Their efforts include compost heat exchange, reforestation, and supplies transport; where by they consolidate trips with neighboring businesses to reduce trips into and out of the resort so that no suppliers travel exclusively to Rancho Margot. They also grow and produce 67% of their food onsite. Our campers will leave with a better understanding of what is involved in sustainable living. We will also have the privilege to spend time at the La Fortuna safe house; a home for abused, neglected or abandoned children, ages 2-12 years old. (http:// www.lafortunaorphanage.com/). After visiting with them and hearing their needs our campers will participate in a pack with a purpose program. Campers and staff alike will pack certain items that these children need (clothes, shoes, coloring books, games, etc). We will bring these items to the orphanage when we spend the afternoon with them.
Manuel Antonio On day five, we will travel to the Manuel Antonio area near Quepos and check in at the luxurious Buena Vista Villas, a true oasis tucked within the rainforest. The resort is 33 acres with tree house bungalows, spectacular views, private beach, walking and hiking trails, and swimming pools. Manuel Antonio is perched on the exquisitely beautiful western coast of Costa Rica. Excursions will include white water rafting, zip lining on a canopy tour, a rainforest hike, beach relaxation, and most importantly working priceless hours at an impoverished grade school in Quepos. Both of our trips were such a success we are keeping all of the activities that they participated in. Equipment and safety guidelines were tested and verified. Our staff was impressed with the thorough instruction given by the guides on all of the activities. We will employ the same tour companies and many of the same guides. The rafting trip includes class III and IV rapids on the Savagnre River and exploration of a waterfall. The canopy tour consists of ten zip lines, two repels, a Tarzan swing, and suspension bridge. The Buena Vista Villas beach provides boogie boards, surf boards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear. We are partnering with Escuela Portalon, Savegre, Aguirre. Children s ages range from 8 to 14. We will assist their staff in grade specific programming that will include tending to their vegetable garden, painting, simple repairs, and planting trees for their reforestation project. We will work hard but will have the opportunity to play games with them during their recess.
Testimonials This was by far the best trip I have ever been on. I got to do things that I never thought I would do and I learned so much. I loved how I got to practice my Spanish constantly. Everything was perfect and planned out. This trip was absolutely amazing and I got to spend it with people that mean so much to me. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. It was so much fun and really opened my eyes to a new country! I loved the trip! I couldn't have asked for a better trip. We did so many things that I had never done before, and I LOVED all the new experiences. It was such a beautiful country and I loved experiencing it with all my friends. The counselors were the BEST! And also we went to really good places for meals. The best 10 days of my summer! It was so much fun and we stayed in the most amazing places. I loved being with everyone from camp in Costa Rica, and we had the best chaperones. We did so many cool things in those 10 days, and looking back I can't believe we experienced so much in so little time. I'm so lucky to have gone on this trip!
We hope that you can join us on this adventure of a lifetime.
