The African Embassy Safaris_Go Namibia - Hopper_Windhoeck Windhoek is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area. The name of the town is derived from the Afrikaans word WindHoek (wind corner). The city centre is characterised by a proliferation of German style buildings, a lasting reminder of Namibia's early colonial history. Early buildings such as the Alte Feste (old fort), Christuskirche and Tintenpalast (the parliament buildings) are of particular historical interest. In a wonderful display of irony, the Alte Feste Fort, once the bastion of German colonialism, now houses the National Museum which places particular emphasis on the freedom struggle and Namibian independence. The climate is arid but due to the winds which gave the city it's name, the climate in Windhoeck especially during the winter months is very pleasant.

The African Embassy Safaris_Go Namibia - Hopper_Okonjima West of the Waterberg Plateau, the vast plains are occasionally broken by the remnants of ancient Sandstone outcrops, which once covered large areas of northern Namibia. Nestled among the Omboroko Mountains lies Okonjima a Herero name meaning Place of the Baboons. The Waterberg plateau and 41000 hectares of surrounding land was declared a Nature Reserve in 1972. The plateau is largely inaccessible and several of Namibia's endangered species (such as black & white rhino, sable antelope and blue wildebeestwere) soon translocated here to protect them from predators and poaching. The programme was very successful and Waterberg now supplies other Namibian parks with rare animals.you may head towards Sossusvlei and Deadvlei from here. There you find the world's highest sand dunes. If you climb them you'll get a most spectacular view of the surrounding area. The African Embassy Safaris_Go Namibia Hopper_Namib Desert The Namib Desert is often referred to as the world's oldest desert and has been in existence for some 43 million years, remaining unchanged in its present form for the last 2 million years. The Namib is an immense expanse of relentlessly moving gravel plains and dunes of all shapes and sizes that stretch along the entire coastline. The most widespread and dominant type of desert sand dune are linear dunes, with crescent shaped dunes common along the coast and clusters of star dunes, such as the towering horseshoe of dunes at Sossusvlei, found in the eastern reaches of the sand sea. A section of the central Namib Desert incorporates the Namib Naukluft Park, the largest park in Namibia and the 3rd largest on the African continent. The Naukluft Mountain section of the park was initially created as a sanctuary for the Hartmann's mountain zebra. The harsh environment of the park challenges man and mammal alike. Carnivores are no exception and 3 of the larger species black-backed jackal, brown hyena and spotted hyena have adapted to life in the desert. Spotted hyena live in the central and eastern regions, travelling in small groups where gemsbok, mountain zebra and occasionally Namib feral horses are taken. Black-backed jackals often scout the beaches in large groups for marine carrion, Cape fur seal pups and breeding birds. Brown hyena search for smaller items of food, usually alone and also take seal pups, eat insects and fruit as well gemsbok and springbok carcasses. Mountain zebra, chacma baboons, kudu, klipspringer, Cape fox, gerbils, steenbok and a healthy population of leopard are also resident.
The African Embassy Safaris_Go Namibia - Hopper_Swakopmund Palm-lined streets, seaside promenades, fine accommodation, a pleasant summer climate and decent beaches. Welcome to Swakopmund Namibia's premier holiday resort! In the north and in the south the city is bordered by the namib desert and the skeleton coast. That's why there are few rain falls in the region. Especially during the months october until march the city is well visited and a popular beach resort at the shores of the southern atlantic ocean. Swakopmund has the ambiance associated with a small German village, and the town seems to be stuck in time. Though less than 10 percent of the inhabitants are Germans nowadays, the influence on architecture and lifestyle is still ominpresent and Swakopmund is called the 'most german' city of Namibia.
