Westerly Owners Association AGM: 11am. Saturday 24th January 2015 The Menzies Cambridge Hotel, Bar Hill, Cambridge CB23 8EU The Association Committee invites all members to join them for the 2015 AGM at Cambridge. The formal meetings will be held in the morning in the Cambridge suite, followed by an optional two course hot and cold buffet lunch and, in the afternoon, a speaker, Reverend Bob Shepton. If you would like to attend the AGM please respond by January 9th at the latest together with lunch reservation and payment if applicable. Bookings are accepted in order of receipt and all are acknowledged. Accommodation is now fully booked at the Menzies Cambridge but there are several other hotels and guest houses in the area, some offering discounts. Notification of Rule changes made by the Committee 5th. October 2014 to bring the rules up to date. Rule 1.1 changed to: WOA events are those organised through, or by, the Association Committee, recognised Area Groups or Clusters operating under the auspices of an Area Group and are open to all Members and their guests. Rule 4 - Association subscriptions and fees. Rule 4.6 changed to: The overseas postage fee is defined by Royal Mail postage charge boundaries. Current rates are available on the WOA website or by application to the Membership Office. 4. Election of the Association Committee The following committee members were elected at the 2014 AGM for a term of 2 years and therefore do not need to be re-elected. Bob Shepton Afternoon Speaker A double transit of the North West Passage Bob has been a full time youth leader in the east end of London and chaplain to two schools. Has made a circumnavigation via Antarctica and Cape Horn with school leavers, 14 Atlantic crossings, and several Tilman type expeditions sailing and climbing to and in the Arctic. He has received the Blue Water Medal, the Tilman Medal (twice), Goldsmiths Medal for Exploration, the Piolet d Or, and was voted Yachtsman of the Year 2013... (Nearly all done in a Westerly 33 Discus!) He recently had a book published, Addicted to Adventure. He has agreed to do a book signing of books he will bring with him and those already belonging to members (It s an amazing book, I bought a copy at Bob s book launch.) 3
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CAR PARKING Car parking at the Menzies Cambridge is provided free of charge for all delegates. You will need to pass through a barrier on entry. The exit barrier will be raised when members leave at the end of the day. If leaving at other times please contact Reception to ensure the barrier is raised. OPTIONAL LUNCH A two course lunch (choice of hot and cold main courses and desserts) will be served, buffet style, at a cost of 14.95 per head in the Brasserie Restaurant. The Gallery bar (upstairs) can provide bar snacks but members need to be aware that it may take some time to satisfy a sudden influx of bar food orders! Members with special dietary requirements please contact the Secretary. Tea and coffee will served for all members in the Augusta suite. Abbreviated Sailing Experience of Committee Nominations Andrew Truscott Andy has sailed a cruising yacht for thirty seven years, the last fourteen in a Westerly Konsort. Since owning a Westerly he has been an Association member, serving on the Committee for the last six years, presently as Commodore. John Ruskin John has been member since1993 and sails his third Westerly, a Regatta 330. He previously owned a Centaur and a Konsort. He brings to the Association a professional background in marketing and publicity for a number of major UK companies. Martyn Langford Martyn has sailed since1947 on many different boats including a Westerly Renown. For the past six years he has owned and sailed a Westerly Corsair. He is currently Chairman of the South Coast Group and is Area Group representative on the National Committee. David Jibb David has been a National Committee member since 2013, this year as Boat Show Organiser. He is responsible for coordinating development of the Westerly Wiki. He sails a Westerly Discus ketch and is organising the 2015 National Cruise. 4
