Just as the design of the exchange was initiated, died Lorenz van Steenwinckel, so it was his brother, -Hans van Steenwinckel, who took over the case and on 10 December 1619, Hans van Steenwinckel appointed master builder responsible for having all the king's buildings under supervision. Lorenz and Hans van Steenwinckel were sons of the Belgian-born architect and stonemason Hans van Steenwinckel, who after his arrival in Denmark in 1578 had supported Christian IV with new spire on both the Holy Spirit, Nikolai Church and probably Blue Tower at Copenhagen Castle.
