Page 2 THE INS IDE EDGE THE INS IDE Page EDGE 2 Holiday Valley Midweek 2015!! Sun-Tues, Jan 25-27 Even though it s been warm and sunny the last few months in Ohio, some of us diehard skiers are anticipating waking up to freshly groomed corduroy or better yet a foot of fresh powder. The trip I ve planned for you definitely will have the first and if we get lucky the latter. This is Holiday Valley 2015! We will have 10 rooms blocked off at the Inn for a three day adventure, enjoying the likes of Sunrise, Marti Gras, or Morning Star. The pricing for two with two nights of lodging, breakfast, & lift tickets will be $497 per room. The lift ticket will be good from Sunday 3pm until Tuesday at 4pm. There will be a welcome wine & cheese/beer & pretzel party (for donations) on Sunday evening. If we don t get all 10 rooms booked, the price will go up by $44 per room for a total of $541. You will need to book your own room by calling the Inn at Holiday Valley. Let them know you re with the BEST SKI CLUB in Ohio. You can cancel until December 20th if something should come up. If you have any questions please see me at the next meeting or email me. Tom Schmidt iskik2s@wndstream.net ALPINE DISCOVERY PROGRAM Winter weather might be a few months away, but now s the time to save big on Snow Trails Season Passes! Check the website for more info. Once again, I am happy to run this program for the NSC at Snow Trails. I am looking forward to a great season. See you at the meetings! Pam Spires pam@snowtrails.com Snow Trails Ski Weekend Fri-Sat, Jan 9 & 10,2015 As usual, our January meeting will be at Snow Trails on a Friday night. To make this more fun, I have looked into rooms nearby to help keep the driving to a minimum & the party going strong!!! The Travelodge has 1 Queen rooms for $54 & 2 Queen rooms for $57, while the Super 8 has 2 Queen rooms for $59/night. Both have continental breakfasts & are within 2 miles of Snow Trail. For the more discerning, the Wishmaker House B&B and Winery (yes, it s also a Winery!!) is within 5 miles of Snow Trails, offers 8 different rooms starting at $145/night which includes a gourmet locally-sourced breakfast, will hold rooms for us until Nov 1st, and will also give NSC members a 10% discount for that night. Our January Happy Hour will be in their Winery on Saturday night, so maybe just stay the weekend? Check out their amazing selection at wishmakerhouse.com & don t forget to tell them you are with the BEST SKI CLUB ever! I ll have more info at the meeting. Violet Bowman

Page 3 THE INS IDE EDGE THE INS IDE Page EDGE 3 Final Train Trip Update Well, it's finally time for the train ride through the New River Gorge in West Virginia. We've all been planning this and paying for this since last winter and we're about to be rewarded. The whole group has chosen to ride in the Dome cars so we'll be enjoying both breakfast and dinner on the train while we watch the passing scenery. If only this bright sunny weather continues! I'm counting on bringing back pictures to make everyone envious. For those of you on the trip, keep checking your e-mail (I'll call those without e-mail). If there are any last minute updates, I'll let you know. Hope to see everybody in Huntington WV on Friday night, Oct. 24th but Saturday morning early at the latest. The Fall Happy Hours In October, we will return to The Olde Bag of Nails in downtown Gahanna, meeting up around 6pm on Friday, October 17th. We have the upstairs room, so come hang out with us after a long week of doing whatever it is you have to do! For November, we are going to head back to the Route 40 Roadhouse outside of Zanesville on Friday, November 21st starting around (can you guess?!?) 6pm. Page 4 Sh-sh-shilent Auction 14 Update It s that time of year again, time to start thinking about Christmas! What are YOU going to donate for our 3rd Annual Sh-shshilent Auction this year? This has become an amazing fundraiser for our club & for TAASC, a great place to grab something cool & interesting for yourself, and/or just an easy way to Christmas shop while eating, drinking, dancing, & having fun with friends! And it s early enough that if you get beat out for the perfect gift, you can still find something else to give them. Roy & Tom are more than willing to take your donations now, or even accept names of possible businesses which might be willing to donate. Now is a great time to start getting into that Christmas Spirit of Giving (& maybe plotting how to get a great deal?!?)! T H E I N S I D E E D G ET H E I N S I D E Page E DPage G E4 4 Attention All NSC Members who like to have fun (do we admit any other kind??): We recently had a very successful Activities Planning Mtg. Thanks to all who attended or otherwise submitted your ideas. We generated just a ton of great ideas and even have trip leaders ready to serve for some of the events/trips. Since so many good ideas were discussed, we decided to send the membership a survey that will allow you to give your input on what interests you and to indicate if you would be willing to serve as a trip leader for any of these activities. Remember, the most popular trip can't happen if someone isn't willing to step up and organize it. I have emailed out the Trip Leader Guidelines in case anyone wants to learn just what that involves before making a decision to volunteer or not. Once we have a proposed trip, a trip leader, and a budget, the Board reviews the information in light of all other factors & Club events, and then votes to approve (or not) the activity. Please print out (those who get a USPO mailed newsletter will have a copy as an insert), fill in, and bring your completed survey to the October 7th Meeting. We value your input. I have emailed 2 versions of the survey in case some of you have trouble opening one or the other. If you continue to have problems, please let Christian know.
