CHILE: Air Force, Army, Naval & Police Aviation Bases Optional Extension to the FALKLAND ISLANDS NEW DATES & REVISED ESTIMATED PRICES PROVISIONAL ITINERARIES & GENERAL INFORMATION CHILE ONLY (227603A) Saturday, 12 th - Monday, 21 st November, 2016 CHILE & THE FALKLAND ISLANDS (227603B) Saturday, 12 th Monday, 28 th November, 2016 Our previous tours to the Chilean Armed Forces have enjoyed excellent co-operation from the authorities and we await confirmation of our latest request for base visits. The itinerary also includes visits to several aviation museums and aircraft collections. At the end of the tour to Chile you have the option of a memorable 8-day extension to the Falkland Islands! The programme will involve visits to some of the famous battle sites, crashed aircraft sites on West Falkland, museums and the local wildlife. The tourist season on the Falklands is very short the availability of accommodation is small! Groups are normally up to 10 persons due to the limited hotels and also the seating capacity of the Britten Norman Islanders which are used to ferry people around! Although the tour price is high not helped by a steadily falling Dollar exchange rate - there is no cheap way to travel to the Islands: it is, after all, nearly 8,000 miles from London. We fly on the scheduled services of Iberia (LAN Chile codeshare) from London s Heathrow Airport to Madrid, and with LAN Chile to Santiago de Chile. We utilise various domestic services around Chile and on the Falklands we have 3 fabulous flights in the BN Islanders of the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS)! Travel in-country is by chartered air-conditioned coach, in the Falklands by 4x4s where necessary: please see appropriate paragraph on page 9 General Information. We stay each night in Chile in comfortable hotels; on the Falkland Islands it will be in the Malvina House Hotel in Port Stanley and in the Pebble Island lodge and Port Howard lodge. Bed and breakfast in Chile, full board on the Falkland Islands (some lunches may be of the packed variety); we are accompanied by local guides in both countries in addition to an Manager. On this tour you have the opportunity to photograph aircraft of the Chilean Air Force, Navy and Army; and on the Falklands the RAF and Argentinian air forces. Also on the latter, there is photography of a different kind: Mother Nature. Tourists from around the world visit these islands because of the wide variety of the wildlife and the opportunity to take stunning photos. The high level of demand for the very limited accommodation on the Falklands means you must book as early as possible. Un-sold rooms have to be handed back by early summer. Therefore, our departure/arrival times will not be known nearer the time when all the requests for flights have been co-ordinated. On Pebble Island we see the remains of an Argentine Learjet, 2 Daggers and the memorial to HMS Coventry. In the 1982 Falklands War the first land-based action of the campaign took place here when the SAS attacked the Argentine-occupied airfield. Today and on all the other days - there will also be opportunities to photograph the local natural wildlife. Pebble Islands' diverse terrain provides vital breeding habitats for a wide-ranging population of birds, including some rare and elusive species like the majestic Black-necked swan. Also found in the wetlands (an internationally Significant Bird Area) are many beautiful water fowl such as the Chiloe Wigeon, Yellow- Billed Pintail and Silver Teal. Many thousands of Gentoo, Rockhopper and Magellanic penguins breed on Pebble Island each summer, spearheading the list of 42 resident bird species. In addition, each year the island Tour 227603A: Chile & 227603B: Chile & Optional Extension to the Falklands Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 6 of 12

attracts many rare avian visitors from South America and beyond. Meals are taken in their cosy restaurant and there is a social area with a bar. Website: http://www.pebblelodge.com/ DAY 13: THURSDAY, 24 th NOVEMBER Today we take the FIGAS Islander to Port Howard also on West Falkland, a short hop to the south. We hope to visit as many as possible of the 8 or so sites of wrecked Argentine Air Force aircraft: Mirage, Skyhawk, Dagger and helicopters. GENERAL INFORMATION Payment for A deposit of 500.00 per person should accompany your Booking Form, with the balance due 10 weeks prior to the tour s departure. Please see your Booking Confirmation/Invoice for the exact date. Please note that a reminder of the payment date will not be sent. Tours Affected by World Events or Unforeseen/Unplanned Circumstances In an ever-changing world, events may occur immediately before or during a tour that result in cancellations or changes to the tour itinerary. For example, an increase in security may result in an approved visit being cancelled by the host, etc.. cannot be held responsible for any tour being cancelled, or itineraries affected, due to world events or circumstances beyond our control. Coach Travel only use coaches chartered from reputable companies, with a driver. Where we have had to cancel a tour, due to the small number of bookings, we have looked at the possibility of renting a 16-18 seater mini-van, with our tour manager driving. However, without exception, the hiring of such a vehicle is illegal if any of the occupants make any payment towards the rental price, fuel and/or other expenses - known as for hire or reward. Any such rental, made without these facts being made known to the rental company at the time of booking, also invalidates all insurance covering the vehicle, contents and persons. The DVLA has also confirmed that any for hire or reward rental could breach the normal driving classification of a standard UK driver s license. Therefore, we do not undertake any tours using 9-18 seater mini-vans from a rental company; either with our tour manager, or a member of the group, driving. Passports and Visas Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return. Meals Meals are not normally included in the price of our tours unless they are included within the room rate as we realise that not everyone wants three meals a day. On this tour Continental Breakfast is included in Chile and Full Board, i.e. all meals, on the Falkland Islands (some lunches may be of the packed variety). In-flight meals when included within the cost of the air ticket form part of the tour price, however some airlines (primarily European carriers) now only serve refreshments for which they charge accordingly. Health Requirements There are currently no known mandatory or recommended precautions required for travel to Chile or the Falkland Islands. However, we strongly recommend that you consult your local doctor or health centre for the latest information. Climate and Dress Chile: stretches thousands of miles from its northern to southern limits. In Santiago you can expect temperatures from as high as 77 F (25 C); in Iquique, 72 F (22 C); and in Punta Arenas, 54 F (12 C). We recommend summer clothing but also warmer items for Punta Arenas. Falkland Islands: Its summer! However, the weather in November is changeable and often quite windy. In Stanley the maximum temperatures between November and February can be around the mid-60s F (20 sc). We recommend warmer items and waterproofs. Good walking shoes or boots would be more comfortable for yomping across the countryside when outside Stanley. Local Currency Chile: US Dollars is the preferred foreign currency to exchange into Chilean Pesos. You will probably get a better deal changing US Dollars in Chile compared to other countries. Hotels will only change small amounts so a supply of $10.00 or $20.00 notes is recommended. NEVER change money on the street: these so called Street Exchangers WILL rip you off either by a rigged calculator, giving you false notes. There are many ATM money machines throughout Chile and most of them can be used to take out money from overseas banks. You may, however, want to verify this with your bank first. Credit cards: most major credit cards are accepted in Chile. Falkland Islands: The Falkland Island Pound is fixed at a rate equalling one Pound Sterling. Bank of England coins and notes are accepted in the Islands at full value. However, some travellers have experienced difficulties exchanging Falkland Islands notes at their bank on return to the UK. You may therefore want to limit the amount of Falkland Islands currency you bring back with you on departure. In Stanley, many of the main shops, hotels and restaurants will accept MasterCard or Visa. A small number of places accept debit cards. Credit and debit cards are not widely accepted outside Stanley. There are no ATM cash machines on the Islands, but a cash advance facility is available at the bank using Visa or MasterCard. Departure taxes Chile: all departure taxes are included in the price of your air tickets. Falkland Islands: There is a 22.00 departure tax payable on leaving the Islands that is not included in LAN airline flight tickets. Travel Insurance For citizens of the United Kingdom, can provide competitive and comprehensive insurance cover for the duration of your tour. However, if you do not wish to take out our insurance, you must ensure that comparable or greater cover is taken. The number of your Insurance Policy should be written, if known, on your Booking Form at the time of making the reservation, but no later than the date when final payment is due. A copy of the policy must be forwarded to. Individual insurance policies are arranged through CoverMore Insurance Services Limited; the premiums for which will vary according to your circumstances. Full details are available on request. Wheelchair Assistance at Airports Anyone requiring wheelchair assistance at airports must have this service requested and confirmed in advance. Airlines and/or airports can no longer provide this service without prior confirmation, therefore, please annotate your booking form accordingly. Please note that anyone using a wheelchair, walking sticks or crutches will not be allowed to go on to the operational areas (air-side) of any air bases or airports that we visit: this is for your own, and flight safety, reasons and is a Chilean regulation, not Ian Allan Travel s.
