SWiM 101 WHAT IS IT? Single Wire Multi-Switch (SWiM ) LNBs provide DIRECTV programming from all current and future KaKu satellites via a single RG-6 coaxial cable run to a power passing splitter (2MHz-2150MHz range required). Then only one line is required from the splitter to each receiver. what are the benefits? dealer benefits Easier installation Fewer lines to run Easier to use existing cable customer benefits Easier to upgrade from non-dvr Single wire required for 2-tuner unit Great solution for pre-wired buildings when do I use it? Effective January 1, 2009, dealers will be compensated for the use of SWiM equipment for all new customer HD or HD DVR installations for homes with 5 to 8 tuners (those installations that would require a 6 x 8 multiswitch) only. The use of the LNB is not at dealer discretion but is a requirement in all markets. Specific LNB requirements are based on (See pages 4-7 for specific details). Please note, there are two exceptions: 1) Màs and Jadeworld HD installations with 5 to 8 tuners in all markets require a 5LNB SWiM ODU. 2) All two dish installations (72.5 markets and international programming) should continue to use their two dish solution until notified. Beginning January 1, 2009, distributors will only fulfill SWiM equipment for new customer HD installations of 5 to 8 tuners. Keep in mind, when ordering your equipment that DVRs and HD DVRs have two tuners, standard and HD receivers have only one tuner. where can i get installation training? It s easy to learn about SWiM. Peaking must be performed using a SWiM LNB. 2. Mount and level the mast connect the LNB power supply and SWiM LNB to the ASL (when required) and connect the signal meter. 3. Preset elevation and tilt with the coordinates provided by the IRD (via zip code). 4. Fine tuning/dithering the azimuth and elevation procedures is similar to a KaKu 5LNB. For specific details on all alignment/peaking procedures, visit the SWiM training module at www.satinstalltraining.com. Troubleshooting Tips: Verify BBCs have not been installed. Verify green LED on the power supply. Verify SWiM signal strength via signal test screen or the SWiM Meter. (See SWiM training module at www.satinstalltraining.com for SWiM Meter instructions.) Verify that the red port on the power inserter or in port on splitter goes to the SWiM LNB. Always force a download on all IRDs. The H20 is only SWiM compatible after a software download. The IRDs must be disconnected when peaking the ODU. If the IRD does not recognize SWiM, a reset of the power inserter may correct the problem. WARNING: Sending SWiM power into the IRDs can damage or destroy the receivers. 3
