DECEMBER PREZ WORDS: Wow! Another month has gone by and here I am again stuck on what to write about. Unfortunately there has been no inspiration come forward to help me out this time. So you will have to bear with me as I ramble through this Sorry However, I do have some good news and the opportunity to share with you how easy it is to amaze me just by learning new tricks and tips when working on my LBCs. When telling this to some of the club members, I had suggested that there could be a new feature for the newsletter called, What I d learned this month. So here s what I ve learned this month. Ever since the summer tour, my 68 MGB has had the front end shakes and I have been struggling with this through many suggested fixes which included new frontend bearings (which were needed), checking for loose or worn parts, and checking the alignment. Still after all that she still had the shakes. Yes, I had considered wheel balancing but I had gotten that done prior to the tour. That s why I went through all the other steps before the full circle back to wheel balancing. That s when Lynn Gardner offered to help out by using his "bubble balancer" to check the balance on the tires. OK, a bubble balancer? Don't know what that is but I've seen Lynn's Jag and if he thinks a bubble balancer will work I'm game to try. So we set a date and I went by his place and after pulling the B in the garage (the garage floor was fully protect from front to back!) and jacking up the front end, Lynn comes out with this contraption that looked like the top of a pyramid. He starts to level up the three legs based on the bubble on top and as he is doing that I own up to my ignorance by stating, Do you think we can get the tire spinning fast enough by hand? To which I am sure he chuckled louder inside than he did on the outside. But with a few instructions I caught on to what was needed and we found that one of the front tires was WAY off. After about 45 minutes we had all four rebalanced and I am happy to say that the shakes are just about all gone. Thanks Lynn! On other news, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends wherever you were or how much food you consumed. Also, please be sure to get with me or Nancy Otterness and let us know if you will join us at the IBCC Annual Christmas Dinner as we continue to share the holiday season with friends and family. While it is a cliché, please remember to give thanks for all we have that blesses us each day and remember that we are all God s children whether we believe in Him or another or none at all, we all should ask that mankind be blessed with health and wisdom to do good to one another throughout the coming year. Now go out and tell your LBC thanks for a good year and that you are looking forward to a drive (fun)-full year in 2011! Rick

From the Editor: Here it is December 1 st, and time to publish another newsletter. I don t know where the year has gone. Seems like just yesterday the new board of directors was meeting to plan events for the year. It has been a busy year of drives and social get-togethers. Looking ahead, I have three more newsletters to publish, and then the job will be passed on to Lee & Nancy Otterness. I know they will do an excellent job, and hope all of you will continue to submit articles for the newsletter. The January newsletter will be published about a week later than normal, as I have travel plans over the holidays. I would like to wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year! Hope to see all of you at the IBCC Christmas party and at the coffees and pub nights during these cold winter months Becky Veterans Day Celebration Bob and Carolyn Berry would like to thank every one who joined them for an evening of food, drink, and socializing. I was unable to attend this year, but from what I hear it was a great party with lots of good food and fun.becky November Wednesday Pub Night Approximately 20 members met at Harrison Hollow Brew Pub for dinner, drinks and socializing on Thanksgiving Eve. After a short wait, we were seated and enjoyed our evening. After dinner we wished each other a Happy Turkey Day and hurried to our cars through the 15 degree temperature. Not a good night to stand around talking about our LBC s. The next pub night is December 29th. The location will be announced at the December coffee s and will be posted on the web site. Hope you can join us.

I'm not going to verify or endorse this. Draw your own conclusions. Happy knuckle busting! Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist, Bud Baker. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. *Penetrating oil... Average load* None... 516 pounds WD-40... 238 pounds PB Blaster... 214 pounds Liquid Wrench... 127 pounds Kano Kroil... 106 pounds ATF-Acetone mix...53 pounds The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price. Kroil is available from Tacoma Screw on Cole Rd across from Costco/Post Office. Submitted by Pete Rolfe 1.Does your chewing gum loose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight? 2.Do you leave your clutch pedal depressed when waiting for the stop light to change? 3.Do you start your manual transmission car in neutral with the clutch in or out, or in gear with the clutch depressed? 4.Do you know what your clutch release bearing is composed of,carbon bearing, roller bearing, other? 5.Do you know what thrust washers are, where they are used, and why you should be knowledgeable? 6. Have you heard of Water Wetter, and do you know it's benefits? 7. Are you aware that some of the NEW antifreeze blends can be harmful to your car engine?
