Pg. 2 Prez Message for November 2017 Today I had to wear gloves for the first time while walking our dog. It reminded me that winter is on its way. Also, it reminded me that payments are due or will be due soon on Sun Valley, Steamboat and the Schuss Mountain/ISC trips. We have some great deals this year. Most of us know what a great deal the Sun Valley trip is. But take note of the Cascade Mountain one-day bus trip it s only $100 for the bus and lift ticket ($50 for kids). Better yet, only a $20 deposit is needed to sign-up for it. This trip is likely to be sold out by December, so get your $20 in ASAP. See articles throughout this issue of Inside Edge for all our ski trip offerings. Make sure you have our social meeting at Zao Island (Valparaiso) on your calendar for November 6 (Monday). You can eat and drink in the main dining room during our meeting and play mini-golf or ride go-carts (before or after the meeting) and have some fun with your fellow members. Also, you can invite your friends. This meeting will begin at 7:00 pm (1/2 hour earlier than normal meetings). Also, we are going to set up a table at the Slide Shop (at the former Pines Ski Area on Meridian on Valpo) to promote our club to skiers who show up there. We will have DSC representatives there from Noon to 6 pm on Saturday, November 11. Stop by and say hello and have a cookie and cup of apple cider. If you would like to volunteer to be a representative of DSC to talk to people, please let me know. Make sure you get your money in for the Christmas Party at Kelsie s Steak House in Valpo by November 20 ($35 per person). It will be a fun night (see article). We now have new tri-fold DSC flyers and small posters with tear-off contact information. If you know a place that will allow us to have either promotional piece, let me know and I will give you the materials. Also, we have had publicity in The Chronicle newspaper (September) and Panorama Now magazine (October). The NWI Times placed an article in the Times Lifestyle section (on October 22, Sunday). Those of you who attended our Annual Chili Cook-Off and Remembrance Bike Ride will tell you what a good time we had on both activities. We had 30+ people at the Chili Cook-Off and great weather for the bike ride and bonfire held in conjunction with the Cook-Off. The Remembrance Ride, which honors those members who have passed, was held on a perfect day. We rode from Countryside Park in Portage to Porter/Chesterton for lunch at the Village Tavern and back. A few less energetic people met us at the tavern. I hope to see everyone at our next activity. Bill Leavitt, President Beware of snow snakes they will trip you up! Membership Drive at the Slide Shop on November 11 The Duneland Ski Club plans to set up a table at the Slide Shop at the former Pines Ski Area to attract new members. It will be held from Noon to 6 pm on Saturday, November 11. The Slide Shop is just south of 700 North Road on Meridian on Valpo. We will have DSC representatives there to promote our club to skiers who show up there. If you have the chance stop by and say hello and have a cookie and cup of apple cider. If you would like to volunteer to be a representative of DSC to talk to people, please let me know. November Social Meeting on November 6 We are having our first social meeting of the year in the dining area of Zao Island at U.S. 30 and Horseprairie Avenue in Valparaiso. We will have a brief meeting starting at 7 pm (1/2 hour earlier than our normal meetings). The meeting will be on Monday, November 6. Come out early and play mini-golf or drive the go-carts or play other games. Zâo Island has a great new dining area where we will be meeting; they have wine and beer, great pizza and various kinds of interesting sandwiches. Come out and have some fun with your fellow members. Also, you can invite your friends who may be interested in our club. Support this activity so that we can plan other social meetings during the year. Trip payments and other business can be conducted at this meeting, but it is mainly for fun. Come on out! Cascade Mountain One-Day Bus Trip Sign-up now for the Duneland/Nomads One-Day Bus Trip to Cascade Mountain on Saturday, March 3. This is a great get-away for a day of skiing and fun with Nomads Ski Club. The price is unbelievable! It is just $100 for the lift ticket and bus and $50 for children 12 and under. The bus leaves from Crestwood, IL (14011 S. Kenton Ave.) at 7 am and returns at 6:30 pm. Rentals, lessons and racing are available at extra cost. Food and drink vouchers are available from Nomads at discount prices. What a deal! See Bill Leavitt for a flyer with more information. A mere $20 deposit is required to get on this trip, with the balance due at our January Meeting. This trip will likely sell out, so get your deposit in soon.

Our latest Chili Cook-off (#14) was a fun day as usual. The weather was fine for the afternoon bike ride as well as for the roaring bonfire in the evening. Six people entered their chili in the contest. Henry Bottando won 1 st place and Ann Leavitt came in second. All entries were delicious as well as all the side dishes. Our thanks to all who came this year. We value your friendships. Charlie & JoAnn
