Port Captain s Report for 2015 Commodore s Ball My last official act of 2014 and the first official act for 2015 by the Marina Yacht Club of Long Beach (MYCLB) were conducted at the Change of Watch black tie dinner. It was a swanky affair with men in their tux s and their club status regalia and women attired in stunning outfits and accessories to rival any red carpet soiree. The venue was the Grand Banquet Center, Long Beach. Walking into the facility you immediately feel welcomed by the beautiful foyer with its warm fireplace, soaring ceiling and inviting sofas. A few steps down the hall and you are in our assigned room, The Pacific Room. The tables were set with white tablecloths, alternating blue and yellow napkins and white china with gold trim. To top off the table presentation my guest Joyce Jackson provided gorgeous centerpieces of spherical bowls with sand and golden sailing ships flying the Marina Yacht Club Burgee. Everything was ready for us, so from 6 till 7 we enjoyed social hour while munching on delicious hors d oeuvres listening and dancing to the music of Duece Coupe. When dinner was served the wait staff were prompt and attentive to our needs. Judging from the quiet hush that came over the assembled diners I could only assume everyone was gastronomically satisfied with their culinary choices. At 8pm we began the program with introductions and recognitions. My guests were Joe and Gerri Rogers, Staff Commodore Long Beach Singles Yacht Club, Joyce Jackson, Secretary I.O.B.G., Staff Commodore Long Beach Singles Yacht Club, current Membership Chair Long Beach Singles Yacht Club and Trisha Jackson, member Long Beach Womens Sailing Association. Darrell Sausser introduced his guest Debbie Neal. Special recognition of long time members made to Jim and Joan Wolfelt for 26 years, Clint and Pat Johnson for 44 years and Elsie Pierson for 44 years. Additionally for Elsie Pierson we stood and applauded her upcoming 100 th birthday February 3. Hedy gave a very thoughtful and retrospective farewell speech before turning the podium over to Acting Installation Officer Mary Lium. Mary called up the 2014 bridge and dismissed them with a resounding YOU RE FIRED. Mary then called upon the incoming officers asking each if they accept the position. John Caldwell.Treasurer Hedy Codner. Jr. Staff Commodore Jim Wolfelt. Vice Commodore Jim Lium. Commodore. At this point as newly installed Commodore Jim Lium assumed Installation Officer status and installed Mary Lium as Secretary. The new bridge was resoundingly applauded. Next Jim appointed Eileen Paine as Historian and Harry Hutton as Liaison Officer. Jim gave an inspiring speech emphasizing cruising adventures, family fun and community support. It was a really great night. Too bad we have to wait another year to do it again. Rodney and Kathryn Coomber, Port Captains.
