Airport Manager s Report April 19th, 2017 Members of the City of Marshfield, the airport committee and airport management went to Madison the end of March to meet with the Bureau of Aeronautics. We had the opportunity to meet several members of the Federal Aviation Administration from Chicago. Chicago branch of the FAA oversees the funding for projects in our area. It was an insightful and productive meeting. One of the topics discussed was land use planning and private ponds constructed near an airport. The Bureau of Aeronautics had a pre-bid meeting for the upcoming hanger drainage project. There was only one potential bidder that showed up for the pre-bid meeting. However, Becher- Hoppe said the plans were requested by multiple firms. There have been a few potential bidders that have stopped out to look at the area and a few other potential bidders have called asking questions. Hopefully the Bureau receives some good bids for the project. Hub City Times and the Marshfield News Herald have both reported the agreement between the Marshfield Clinic and Ascension has been made for Marshfield Clinic to purchase the hospital. As part of the agreement, Ascension will be retaining the helicopter and ground transport units of Spirit Transport. The Spirit Helicopter has been a main stay at the hospital for many years now. The Spirit Helicopter leaving will impact the helicopter numbers on the monthly activity report. 95% of the helicopter activity is the Spirit reported each month.

Hub City Times did announce that Marshfield Clinic is looking for replacement services for the helicopter and ambulance services Spirit Transport provided. At this time the details of the replacement services are unknown. Duffy received word from the Milwaukee Flight Standards District Office that designated pilot examiners, (DPE), are required to have a third class medical. Duffy has decided that he will step down from being a DPE the end of May when his third class special issuance medical runs out. After his medical expires, Duffy will fly under the new Basic Med rules which will allow him to operate as a flight instructor and pilot. Duffy has been a pilot examiner since 1986. He conducted roughly 6,000 pilot examination in his career. Duffy is not retiring from aviation. Duffy will still be acting as a flight instructor and aircraft seller / broker. Walt has started getting the lawn mowers ready for the 2017 grass mowing season. With the recent rains, the grass has sprouted from it s winter slumber. In a week or two, the mowers will be cutting grass again. Our condolences go out to the Wheeler family with the passing of Ann Wheeler. Ann and her husband were avid aviators. It is a love that is shared by their son Daniel. Happy Flying Duffy, Alice and Jeff Gaier

Picture left to right, Duffy Gaier, Dan Jurczyk and Howard Joling. Dan completed his flight training at Duffy s Aircraft with Howard Joling. Duffy and Dan went on a flight check on Monday April 17th and Dan passed. Dan is now a Private Pilot Pictured to the left: Duffy Gaier with Vincent Quadrani. Vincent completed his flight training with Duffy s Aircraft for a Commercial Pilot License.

Pictured Above: Several law enforcement agencies were out at the airport to practice K-9 searches on airplanes this month. This was a training exercise for the dogs and handlers to try their searches on something other they cars, trucks and vans. Pictured Above: Duffy s Aircraft has a new courtesy vehicle. The Chevy Malibu we used previously had a knock in the engine and 455 air conditioning (4 windows down and 55 miles an hour). Howard and Carol Rand happened to know where their was a 2004 Dodge Caravan in good condition with low miles. This will come in handy for the airport. The Courtesy car is owned by Duffy s Aircraft and is available for pilots when they fly into the airport and need to get somewhere in Marshfield.
