TWYFORD VILLAGE HOME IMPROVEMENT GROUP www.twyfordvillage.com www.twyfordhig.co.uk Twyford Christmas Fayre 2 nd December 2011 PROUD SUPPORTERS OF THE TWYFORD VILLAGE PARTNERSHIP AND THE CHRISTMAS FAYRE HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Those of you who have been to the Fayre before will know the format - lots of stalls in the centre of the village along London Road, selling everything from books to pictures and mulled wine to jewellery; street entertainers; music and singing; and of course, a visit from Father Christmas himself! The Fayre provides an excellent showcase for local businesses, charities, clubs, and societies. Many of the shops along London Road will remain open through the evening, and the village s restaurants will be available to cater for the many visitors - in recent years up to 2,000 people have attended. The Christmas Fayre is run by the Twyford Village Partnership (TVP), a body that brings together local councils, businesses, voluntary groups, churches, schools and residents. The aim of the TVP is to promote the viability and vitality of our village. Organization of the event is undertaken by a committee of volunteers, who have been working on this year s Fayre since the spring. Until quite recently, Wokingham Borough Council provided most of the funding for the TVP and therefore for the Christmas Fayre. But two years ago, the council withdrew its funding and since then we have been reliant on money raised locally to put on the Fayre. Twyford Parish Council has made a helpful contribution, as has the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable trust. Most of the money required has come from local businesses and a particularly generous donation from Bridge House Nursing Home is gratefully acknowledged. We are very lucky in Twyford to be able to tap into a great community spirit, which makes the Fayre possible and which the Fayre itself demonstrates. We hope you can join us on 2nd December; it should be another enjoyable evening s entertainment for all the family. Stephen Conway Chairman of the Christmas Fayre Committee Bridge House It s a priviledge to care Located on the outskirts of the village of Twyford, Berkshire, and set in two acres of landscaped gardens, Bridge House represents the perfect setting for convalescence, respite and long term care. Twyford Charities Together We are very lucky in our village to have five great Charities:- 1 Daisy s dream - which help bereaved children 2 Age Concern - who help our older residents 3 Feed the Children - an International Charity helping the hungry 4 Piggott School - now an Academy, and has just got charitable status 5 Building for the Future - helping disabled people in our area TVP recently hosted a meeting, where all these charities met up for the first time, and it soon became obvious that they had much to share, didn t compete with each other and could help each other in many ways. By the end of the meeting the group had agreed to meet regularly, to share ideas, exchange best practices and look for ways to promote each other by raising awareness in the local community. At the second meeting a plan was agreed to join up at this year s Christmas Fayre and put all five stalls together - with some entertainment provide by Twyford Singers - and help collect lots of money! In addition all agreed to hold the TWYFORD VILLAGE FUN RUN on the 23rd June next year at Piggott School to raise money, by holding sponsored races for all ages, form 5 to 65! Polehampton and Colleton Schools have promised their full support and it promises to be another fun day in the Village. This new idea was launched at Piggott School on 7th October at a fundraising day - all the Charities attended - and each year group has adopted one charity as their own, for a year. You will all be hearing much more about this in the next 12 months. Another TVP initiative to help your village! Lighting up the Village Twyford Village Partnership is delighted that this year we have received a grant to help light up the centre of our Village. We hope to put small Christmas trees, with lights, on the front of ten of our shops, and return the Big Christmas tree to Bell Corner - where it belongs - decorated with solar powered lights. The ten shops, all TVP members are Haa Hoos, Natwest bank, Tile and Bathroom Place, Laundry Depot, Duke of Wellington, Mullie, Thames Valley Travel, Newberry, Twyford Carpets and the new Age Concern shop. Dave Cox of Westgate Electrical Services has agreed to install three sets of lights for free - but it gets even better! He is going to donate all the money he makes to two lovely village charities - Daisy s Dream and the Age Concern Day Centre and each stands to benefit about 1000. TVP itself is making a financial contribution, and our Chairman Patrick Heather said: This is a great project that hopefully will make a big difference to our village over the holidays. We are very grateful to Lady Elizabeth Godsal for giving us the big tree and we hope to see you all at the Fayre on the 2nd December.
