The Scribed Line Newsletter for the Oregon Historical Modelers Society (OHMS) April 2014 Volume 2014/Issue 04 Left Gold winning model from the March OHMS meeting and on right, the Junior winner for the night. Bill Chilstrom s 1/35 diorama representing the meeting of the Afrika Korps allies in reconnaissance vehicles was one of Bill s usual works of art. The Junior winner was by Henry Doyle and was a Revell Snaptite 1/72 P-51 Mustang. More meeting pictures on pages 3-4. (Photos by Larry Randel) Message from the Editor Random April Thoughts By Larry Randel As I finish off this newsletter, I also need to put some finishing touches on a couple models to take to Seattle for the Seattle Spring show. It looks like we won t be dealing with a spring time snow storm on our trek to the north. We have not set up any carpool plans, but the standard we usually go by is to meet at Bridgetowne at 6 am on Saturday if you are offering or needing a ride. Hopefully supply will meet demand. Up in Seattle, lets try to remember to get a group picture again. If you can remember, wear your maroon OHMS shirts to Seattle on Saturday. I will bring the restock supply I have recently ordered so if you find me and would like a shirt, talk to me up in Seattle. On a different subject, at the last meeting, many of the people who brought models did not fill in the model entry sheet information. I suspect it did not circulate around the room completely. For future reference, please look for the sheet to come around if you have not filled it out. That s about it for now. See you all at Tuesday s meeting on April 15th. Page 2 Volume 2014/Issue 04 April 2014 March 18th Meeting Notes By: Brian Yee President Chris B. opened the meeting at 7:12 pm. President Chris B. summarized the auction financials, thanked the membership for their contributions (models, effort, and money), and cautioned about donating kits with missing parts. The auction generated over $2000 in revenue for OHMS. Vice President Bruce McKinney has assumed charge of the Holiday meal, and is looking at hosting this annual event at Madison s (Madison and 11th Street). The facility has a bar, buffet dinner, and cost is about $15-$16 per head. Dinner was proposed to be pickled pig s feet, tripe, and haggis. Sentiment was positive for the venue change among the membership, but not the proposed menu, and Bruce was encouraged to proceed. About a dozen members attended last week s Pearson Model Show. Bill Chilstrom observed some nicely done dioramas, and some OHMS members took prizes. Bruce McKinney won a first in dioramas, Brad (last name?) won a first in Autos, and John Lee won a first for his egg plane collection. The upcoming Seattle show is slated for April 12, and is a great show. Chris encouraged members to go, and if going, encouraged members to volunteer for judging duties. Seattle needs judges this year more than ever. The membership reviewed that the building housing Bridgetown Hobbies and Games is for sale. Chris asked that members be vigilant for an alternate club home base. For now, assume the club will continue to meet on third Thursdays. Chris B. will check with Guardian Games to see if they are receptive to be a venue for club meetings. Some lively discussion about Palm Springs Air Museum was had. They have flying planes, B-17 tours, all for a donation to a local veteran s group. Stewart Bailey reported on Museum business, reviewing us on sale of some aircraft, reiterating that planes come and go routinely, and that is normal for museums. The Museum continues to operate, and our Fall show will continue to be in the Space Museum. The models were introduced by their builders and shown. There were stellar models shown, including Jim Walker s Phantom and Spitfire collections, Bill Chilstrom s Afrika Corps recon diorama, Mad Russian Bruce s Katyusha launcher vignette, Larry Randel s consigned DARN BIG scale B-25 Mitchell, and a sweet little Sushi truck by Doug Packard. The club meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm. Minutes compiled by Brian Yee. Upcoming Events April 12, 2014 IPMS Seattle Spring Show, IPMS Seattle, Renton Community Center, Renton, WA.
