Remove the Packagig WARNING Excessive Weight Hazard Use two or more people to move ad istall refrigerator. Failure to do so ca result i back or other ijury. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Upack the Refrigerator O some models, shelves, bis, door shelf rails, ad other feature parts may be packaged i the Iterior FeaturePak. Follow the istructios cotaied i the package for proper assembly. Whe Movig Your Refrigerator: Your refrigerator is heavy. Whe movig the refrigerator for cleaig or service, be sure to protect the floor. Always pull the refrigerator straight out whe movig it. Do ot wiggle or walk the refrigerator whe tryig to move it, as floor damage could occur. Remove tape ad glue from your refrigerator before usig. To remove ay remaiig tape or glue, rub the area briskly with your thumb. Tape or glue residue ca also be easily removed by rubbig a small amout of liquid dish soap over the adhesive with your figers. Wipe with warm water ad dry. Do ot use sharp istrumets, rubbig alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive cleaers to remove tape or glue. These products ca damage the surface of your refrigerator. See the cleaig istructios i Refrigerator Care. Importat iformatio to kow about glass shelves ad covers: Do ot clea glass shelves or covers with warm water whe they are cold. Shelves ad covers may break if exposed to sudde temperature chages or impact, such as bumpig. For your protectio, tempered glass is desiged to shatter ito may small, pebble-size pieces. This is ormal. Glass shelves ad covers are heavy. Use special care whe removig them to avoid impact from droppig. 3

Locatio Requiremets WARNING Electrical Requiremets WARNING Explosio Hazard Keep flammable materials ad vapors, such as gasolie, away from refrigerator. If your refrigerator has a ice maker, allow extra space at the back for the water lie coectios. Before you move your refrigerator ito its fial locatio, it is importat to make sure you have the proper electrical coectio: Recommeded Groudig Method A 115 Volt 60 Hz. (Plug 1), 220/240 Volt 50 Hz. (Plugs 2 or 3), or 220 Volt 60 Hz. Refrigerator Doors TOOLS NEEDED: ¹ ₄" hex-head socket wrech, ⁵ ₁₆" hex-head socket wrech ad a flat-head screwdriver. IMPORTANT: Before you begi, tur the refrigerator cotrol OFF. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. Remove food ad ay adjustable door or utility bis from doors. NOTE: It may oly be ecessary to remove either the door hadle or the doors to get your refrigerator through the doorway of your home. Measure the door opeig to see if you eed to remove the refrigerator hadles or the doors. WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard Discoect power before removig doors. Recoect both groud wires before operatig. Hadle Removal (optioal) 1. Apply firm pressure with your had o the face of trim. Slide top trim up ad bottom trim dow away from hadle. Lift trim pieces off shoulder screws. See Graphic 1. NOTE: Some models iclude accet pieces betwee the hadle ad the hadle trim. If your model icludes the accets, you will eed to carefully remove them with a flat-head screwdriver before removig the hadle screws. The accet pieces are optioal ad ca be reistalled or left off of the hadle assembly. 2. Remove hadle screws ad hadles. See Graphic 1. 3. Move refrigerator ito place. Replace hadles as show. See Graphic 1. Door Removal WARNING Door ad Hige Replacemet 1. Replace both bottom higes, if removed. Tighte screws. 2. Assistace may be eeded to feed the water dispeser tubig through the bottom hige while reistallig the freezer door. Carefully feed the dispeser tubig through the bottom left hige before replacig the door o the hige. NOTE: Provide additioal support for the doors while the top higes are beig replaced. Do ot deped o the door magets to hold the doors i place while you are workig. 3. Recoect water dispeser tubig by pushig tubig ito fittig util it stops ad black mark touches face of fittig. See Graphic 3. O some models, replace tubig i hose clip. 4. Alig ad replace the top left hige as show. See Graphic 4. Tighte screws. WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard Discoect power before removig doors. Failure to do so ca result i death or electrical shock. 1. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 2. Ope both refrigerator doors. Remove the base grille by pullig up o the bottom outside corers. See Graphic 2. 3. Close both doors ad keep them closed util you are ready to lift them free from the cabiet. 4. If you have a dispeser (ice or water), discoect the water dispeser tubig located behid the base grille o the freezer door side. See Graphic 3. Press the red outer rig agaist the face of fittig ad pull the dispeser tubig free. O some models, remove tubig from hose clip. 5. Remove top left hige cover ad screws as show. See Graphic 4. Do ot remove Screw A. 6. Discoect wirig plug ad both groud wires. See Graphic 4. 7. Carefully lift freezer door straight up off bottom hige. See Graphic 5. The water dispeser tubig remais attached to the freezer door ad pulls through the bottom left hige. Make sure you protect the dispeser tubig from damage. 8. Remove top right hige cover ad screws as show. See Graphic 6. Do ot remove Screw A. 9. Lift the refrigerator door straight up off bottom hige. 10. It may ot be ecessary to remove the bottom hige to move the refrigerator through a doorway. Both bottom higes have similar costructio. Disassemble the higes as show. See Graphic 7. Do ot remove Screw A. Electrical Shock Hazard Recoect both groud wires. Failure to do so ca result i death or electrical shock. 5. Recoect both groud wires. 6. Recoect wirig plug. 7. Replace left hige cover ad screws. 8. Replace the refrigerator door by carefully liftig the door oto the bottom right hige. 9. Alig ad replace the top right hige as show. See Graphic 6. Tighte screws. 10. Replace hige cover ad screws. Tighte screws. 11. Plug ito a grouded (earthed) outlet. Adjust the Doors Your refrigerator has two frot adjustable rollers oe o the right ad oe o the left. If your refrigerator seems usteady or if you wat the doors to close more easily, adjust the refrigerator's tilt usig the istructios below: 1. Move the refrigerator ito its fial positio. 2. The two levelig screws are part of the frot roller assemblies which are at the base of the refrigerator o either side. See Graphic 8. 3. Use a screwdriver to adjust the levelig screws. Tur the levelig screw to the right to raise that side of the refrigerator or tur the levelig screw to the left to lower that side. It may take several turs of the levelig screws to adjust the tilt of the refrigerator. See Graphic 8. NOTE: Havig someoe push agaist the top of the refrigerator takes some weight off the levelig screws ad rollers. This makes it easier to adjust the screws. 4. Ope both doors agai ad check to make sure that they close as easily as you like. If ot, tilt the refrigerator slightly more to the rear by turig both levelig screws to the right. It may take several more turs, ad you should tur both levelig screws the same amout. 5. Replace the base grille. NOTE: Be sure to refaste the Tech Sheet behid the base grille. 6

Water Supply Requiremets Gather the required tools ad parts before startig istallatio. Read ad follow the istructios provided with ay tools listed here. TOOLS NEEDED: Flat-blade screwdriver ⁷ ₁₆" ad ¹ ₂" Ope-ed or two adjustable wreches ¹ ₄" ut driver NOTE: Your refrigerator dealer has a kit available with a ¹ ₄" (6.35 mm) saddle-type shutoff valve, a uio, ad copper tubig. Before purchasig, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with your local plumbig codes. Do ot use a piercig-type or ³ ₁₆" (4.76 mm) saddle valve which reduces water flow ad clogs more easily. IMPORTANT: All istallatios must meet local plumbig code requiremets. Use copper tubig ad check for leaks. Istall copper tubig oly i areas where the household temperatures will remai above freezig. Water Pressure ¹ ₄" Drill bit Had drill or electric drill (properly grouded) A cold water supply with water pressure of betwee 30 ad 120 psi (207 ad 827 kpa) is required to operate the water dispeser ad ice maker. If you have questios about your water pressure, call a licesed, qualified plumber. Reverse Osmosis Water Supply IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water supply comig out of a reverse osmosis system goig to the water ilet valve of the refrigerator eeds to be betwee 30 ad 120 psi (207 ad 827 kpa). If a reverse osmosis water filtratio system is coected to your cold water supply, the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system eeds to be a miimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kpa). If the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system is less tha 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kpa): Check to see whether the sedimet filter i the reverse osmosis system is blocked. Replace the filter if ecessary. Allow the storage tak o the reverse osmosis system to refill after heavy usage. If your refrigerator has a water filter, it may further reduce the water pressure whe used i cojuctio with a reverse osmosis system. Remove the water filter. See Water Filtratio System. If you have questios about your water pressure, call a licesed, qualified plumber. Coect Water Supply Read all directios before you begi. IMPORTANT: If you tur the refrigerator o before the water lie is coected, tur the ice maker OFF. Coect to Water Lie Style 1 1. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 2. Tur OFF mai water supply. Tur ON earest faucet log eough to clear lie of water. 3. Locate a ¹ ₂" (12.70 mm) to 1¹ ₄" (3.18 cm) vertical cold water pipe ear the refrigerator. IMPORTANT: Make sure it is a cold water pipe. Horizotal pipe will work, but drill o the top side of the pipe, ot the bottom. This will help keep water away from the drill ad ormal sedimet from collectig i the valve. 4. Determie the legth of copper tubig you eed. Measure from the coectio o the lower rear corer of refrigerator to the water pipe. Add 7 ft (2.1 m) to allow for cleaig. Use ¹ ₄" (6.35 mm) O.D. (outside diameter) copper tubig. Be sure both eds of copper tubig are cut square. 5. Usig a grouded drill, drill a ¹ ₄" (6.35 mm) hole i the cold water pipe you have selected. A G B C F E A. Be sure the outlet ed is solidly i the ¹ ₄" (6.35 mm) drilled hole i the water pipe ad that the washer is uder the pipe clamp. Tighte the packig ut. Tighte the pipe clamp screws slowly ad evely so the washer makes a watertight seal. Do ot overtighte or you may crush the copper tubig. 7. Slip the compressio sleeve ad compressio ut o the copper tubig as show. Isert the ed of the tubig ito the outlet ed squarely as far as it will go. Screw the compressio ut oto outlet ed with adjustable wrech. Do ot overtighte. 8. Place the free ed of the tubig i a cotaier or sik, ad tur ON the mai water supply. Flush the tubig util water is clear. Tur OFF the shutoff valve o the water pipe. Coil the copper tubig. Style 2 1. Cotact your dealer or a Whirlpool-desigated service compay for proper istallatio. 2. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 3. Coect the supplied hose to a potable water supply. 7

Coect to Refrigerator Style 1 1. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 2. Attach the copper tube to the valve ilet usig a compressio ut ad sleeve as show. Tighte the compressio ut. Do ot overtighte. 3. Use the tube clamp o the back of the refrigerator to secure the tubig to the refrigerator as show. This will help avoid damage to the tubig whe the refrigerator is pushed back agaist the wall. 4. Tur shutoff valve ON. 5. Check for leaks. The covertible vegetable/meat drawer cotrol comes preset at the lowest meat settig. To store meat: Set the cotrol to oe of the three MEAT settigs to store meat at its optimal storage temperature. To store vegetables: Set the cotrol to VEG to store vegetables at their optimal storage temperatures. NOTE: If food starts to freeze, move the cotrol to the left (less cold). Remember to wait 24 hours betwee adjustmets. Crisper Humidity Cotrol (o some models) You ca cotrol the amout of humidity i the moisture-sealed crisper. Adjust the cotrol to ay settig betwee LOW ad HIGH. LOW (ope) for best storage of fruits ad vegetables with skis. HIGH (closed) for best storage of fresh, leafy vegetables. Water ad Ice Dispesers (o some models) Depedig o your model, you may have oe or more of the followig optios: the ability to select either crushed or cubed ice, a special light that turs o whe you use the dispeser, or a lock optio to avoid uitetioal dispesig. NOTES: The dispesig system will ot operate whe the freezer door is ope. After coectig the refrigerator to a water source, flush the water system. Use a sturdy cotaier to depress ad hold the water dispeser lever for 5 secods, the release it for 5 secods. Repeat util water begis to flow. Oce water begis to flow, cotiue depressig ad releasig the dispeser lever (5 secods o, 5 secods off) for a additioal 2 miutes. This will flush air from the filter ad water dispesig system. Additioal flushig may be required i some households. As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of the dispeser. Allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool dow ad chill water. Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced. The Water Dispeser IMPORTANT: Dispese eough water every week to maitai a fresh supply. To Dispese Water: 1. Press a sturdy glass agaist the water dispeser lever. 2. Remove the glass to stop dispesig. IMPORTANT: Limit water dispesig time to a maximum of 2 miutes at a time. The Ice Dispeser The dispesig system will ot operate whe the freezer door is ope. Ice dispeses from the ice maker storage bi i the freezer whe the dispeser lever is pressed. NOTE: Some models dispese both cubed ad crushed ice. Before dispesig ice, select which type of ice you prefer. For crushed ice, cubes are crushed before beig dispesed. This may cause a slight delay whe dispesig crushed ice. Noise from the ice crusher is ormal, ad pieces of ice may vary i size. Whe chagig from crushed to cubed, a few ouces of crushed ice will be dispesed alog with the first cubes. To Dispese Ice: 1. If the ice storage bi is located o the door, remove the temporary shield from udereath the ice storage bi. See Ice Maker ad Storage Bi. 2. Press the butto to select the desired type of ice. WARNING Cut Hazard Use a sturdy glass whe dispesig ice. Failure to do so ca result i cuts. 3. Press a sturdy glass agaist the ice dispeser lever. Hold the glass close to the dispeser opeig so ice does ot fall outside of the glass. IMPORTANT: You do ot eed to apply a lot of pressure to the lever i order to activate the ice dispeser. Pressig hard will ot make the ice dispese faster or i greater quatities. 4. Remove the glass to stop dispesig. IMPORTANT: Limit ice dispesig time to a maximum of 2 miutes at a time. 10

The Dispeser Light Style 1: The dispeser light ca be tured o by pressig the ON butto. Style 2: Whe you use the dispeser, the lever will automatically tur the light o. If you wat the light to be o cotiuously, you may choose either ON or NIGHT LIGHT. ON: Press the LIGHT butto to tur o the dispeser light. NIGHT LIGHT: Press the LIGHT butto a secod time to select the Night Light. The dispeser light will automatically adjust to become brighter as the room brightes, dimmer as the room darkes. OFF: Press the LIGHT butto a third time to tur off the dispeser light. The dispeser lights are LEDs which should ot eed to be chaged. If it appears that your dispeser lights are ot workig, be sure that the light sesor is ot blocked (i Night Light mode). See Troubleshootig for more iformatio. The Dispeser Lock (o some models) The dispeser ca be tured off for easy cleaig or to avoid uitetioal dispesig by small childre ad pets. NOTE: The lock feature does ot shut off power to the product, to the ice maker, or to the dispeser light. It simply deactivates the dispeser levers. The ice ad water dispesers will ot work. Style 1: Press the LOCK butto to lock the dispeser. Press the UNLOCK butto to ulock the dispeser. Style 2: Press ad hold the LOCK OUT butto to lock the dispeser. Press ad hold the LOCK OUT butto a secod time to ulock the dispeser. Ice Maker ad Storage Bi Turig the Ice Maker O/Off Style 1 To tur ON the ice maker, simply lower the wire shutoff arm. To maually tur off the ice maker, lift the wire shutoff arm to the OFF (arm up) positio ad liste for the click. NOTE: Your ice maker has a automatic shutoff. As ice is made, the ice cubes will fill the ice storage bi, ad the ice cubes will raise the wire shutoff arm to the OFF (arm up) positio. Do ot force the wire shutoff arm up or dow. Style 2 The O/Off switch is located o the top right-had side of the freezer compartmet. To tur o the ice maker, slide the cotrol to the ON (left) positio. To maually tur off the ice maker, slide the cotrol to the OFF (right) positio. NOTE: Your ice maker has a automatic shutoff. The ice maker sesors will automatically stop ice productio, but the cotrol will remai i the ON (left) positio. REMEMBER: Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced. The quality of your ice will be oly as good as the quality of the water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid coectig the ice maker to a softeed water supply. Water softeer chemicals (such as salt) ca damage parts of the ice maker ad lead to poor quality ice. If a softeed water supply caot be avoided, make sure the water softeer is operatig properly ad is well maitaied. Do ot use aythig sharp to break up the ice i the storage bi. This ca cause damage to the ice cotaier ad the dispeser mechaism. Do ot store aythig o top of or i the ice maker or storage bi. Removig ad Replacig Ice Storage Bi Style 1 1. Pull the coverig pael up from the bottom ad the slide it back toward the rear. 2. Lift the wire shutoff arm so it clicks ito the OFF (up) positio. Ice ca still be dispesed, but o more ca be made. 3. Lift up the frot of the storage bi ad pull it out. 4. Replace the bi by pushig it i all the way or the dispeser will ot work. Push the wire shutoff arm dow to the ON positio to restart ice productio. Make sure the door is closed tightly. Style 2 1. Hold the base of the storage bi with both hads ad press the release butto to lift the storage bi up ad out. NOTE: It is ot ecessary to tur the ice maker cotrol to the OFF (right) positio whe removig the storage bi. The sesor cover ( flipper door ) o the left wall of the freezer stops the ice maker from producig ice if the door is ope or the storage bi is removed. 2. Replace the storage bi o the door ad push dow to make sure it is securely i place. 11

Water Filtratio System Do ot use with water that is microbiologically usafe or of ukow quality without adequate disifectio before or after the system. Systems certified for cyst reductio may be used o disifected waters that may cotai filterable cysts. REFRIGERATOR CARE Cleaig WARNING Water Filter Status Light (o some models) The water filter status light will help you kow whe to chage your water filter. The light will chage from gree to yellow. This tells you that it is almost time to chage the filter. It is recommeded that you replace the water filter whe the status light chages to red OR water flow to your water dispeser or ice maker decreases oticeably. The filter should be replaced at least every 6 moths depedig o your water quality ad usage. After chagig the water filter, reset the water filter status light. Style 1 Press the light switch 5 times withi 10 secods. The status light will chage from red to gree. Style 2 Press ad hold the water filter reset butto util the status light turs gree. Your reset butto may be located o the water dispeser or o the cotrol pael i the refrigerator compartmet. No-idicator Water Filter (o some models) If your refrigerator does ot have the water filter status light, you should chage the water filter cartridge at least every 6 moths depedig o your water quality ad usage. If the water flow to the water dispeser or ice maker decreases oticeably before 6 moths have passed, replace the water filter more ofte. Usig the Dispeser Without the Water Filter You ca ru the dispeser without a water filter. Your water will ot be filtered. 1. Remove the water filter. 2. Slide the cap off the ed of the filter ad replace the cap i the base grille. IMPORTANT: Do ot discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacemet filter. Explosio Hazard Use oflammable cleaer. Failure to do so ca result i death, explosio, or fire. Both the refrigerator ad freezer sectios defrost automatically. However, clea both sectios about oce a moth to avoid buildup of odors. Wipe up spills immediately. IMPORTANT: Because air circulates betwee both sectios, ay odors formed i oe sectio will trasfer to the other. You must thoroughly clea both sectios to elimiate odors. To avoid odor trasfer ad dryig out of food, wrap or cover foods tightly. To Clea Your Refrigerator: NOTE: Do ot use abrasive or harsh cleaers such as widow sprays, scourig cleasers, flammable fluids, cleaig waxes, cocetrated detergets, bleaches or cleasers cotaiig petroleum products o plastic parts, iterior ad door liers or gaskets. Do ot use paper towels, scourig pads, or other harsh cleaig tools. 1. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 2. Had wash, rise, ad dry removable parts ad iterior surfaces thoroughly. Use a clea spoge or soft cloth ad a mild deterget i warm water. 3. Wash stailess steel ad paited metal exteriors with a clea spoge or soft cloth ad a mild deterget i warm water. 4. There is o eed for routie codeser cleaig i ormal home operatig eviromets. If the eviromet is particularly greasy or dusty, or there is sigificat pet traffic i the home, the codeser should be cleaed every 2 to 3 moths to esure maximum efficiecy. If you eed to clea the codeser: Remove the base grille. Use a vacuum cleaer with a soft brush to clea the grille, the ope areas behid the grille ad the frot surface area of the codeser. Chagig the Light Bulbs NOTE: Not all bulbs will fit your refrigerator. Be sure to replace the bulb with oe of the same size, shape ad wattage. O some models, the dispeser light requires a heavy duty 10-watt bulb. All other lights require a 40-watt bulb. Replacemet bulbs are available from your dealer. 1. Uplug refrigerator or discoect power. 2. Remove light shield whe applicable. NOTE: To clea the light shield, wash it with warm water ad liquid deterget. Rise ad dry the shield well. 3. Remove light bulb ad replace with oe of the same size, shape ad wattage. 4. Replace light shield whe applicable. 5. Plug i refrigerator or recoect power. Power Iterruptios If the power will be out for 24 hours or less, keep the door or doors closed (depedig o your model) to help food stay cold ad froze. If the power will be out for more tha 24 hours, do oe of the followig: Remove all froze food ad store it i a froze food locker. Place 2 lbs (907 g) of dry ice i the freezer for every cubic foot (28 L) of freezer space. This will keep the food froze for 2 to 4days. If either a food locker or dry ice is available, cosume or ca perishable food at oce. REMEMBER: A full freezer stays cold loger tha a partially filled oe. A freezer full of meat stays cold loger tha a freezer full of baked goods. If you see that food cotais ice crystals, it may be refroze, although the quality ad flavor may be affected. If the coditio of the food is poor, dispose of it. Holidays Holiday ad Movig Care If you choose to leave the refrigerator o while you re away, use these steps to prepare your refrigerator before you leave. 1. Use up ay perishables ad freeze other items. 2. If your refrigerator has a automatic ice maker: Raise wire shutoff arm to OFF (up) positio. Shut off water supply to the ice maker. 3. Empty the ice bi. If you choose to tur the refrigerator off before you leave, follow these steps. 1. Remove all food from the refrigerator. 2. If your refrigerator has a automatic ice maker: Tur off the water supply to the ice maker at least oe day ahead of time. Use a plastic utesil to clear the delivery chute. Has the wrog ice bee added to the bi? Use oly cubes produced by the curret ice maker. Has the ice melted aroud the auger (metal spiral) i the ice bi? Empty the ice cotaier. Use warm water to melt the ice if ecessary. WARNING Cut Hazard Use a sturdy glass whe dispesig ice. Failure to do so ca result i cuts. Is the ice dispeser stallig while dispesig crushed ice? Chage the ice butto from crushed to cubed. If cubed ice dispeses correctly, depress the butto for crushed ice ad begi dispesig agai. Has the dispeser arm bee held i too log? Ice will stop dispesig whe the arm is held i too log. Wait 3 miutes for dispeser motor to reset before usig agai. The water dispeser will ot operate properly Freezer door closed completely? Close the door firmly. If it does ot close completely, see The doors will ot close completely. Refrigerator coected to a water supply ad the supply shutoff valve tured o? Coect refrigerator to water supply ad tur water shutoff valve fully ope. Is the water pressure at least 30 psi (207 kpa)? New istallatio? Flush ad fill the water system. Water filter istalled o the refrigerator? The filter may be clogged or icorrectly istalled.
