The Privy AS XLI Barony Of Terra Pomaria August 2007 Baron and Baroness: Greetings unto the most Noble Populace of the Grand Barony of Terra Pomaria, We hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying the tourney and war season. Since our last missive we have traveled far to the south, to the beautiful shire of Tymberhaven where the forces of An Tir met on the field of battle the Kingdom of the West. The event was a glorious time of fun and fellowship with a Kingdom that has long been a close friend to An Tir. Thank you to all of the Terra Pomarians that made the journey and supported the Sable Lion at War. Next we traveled north to our Noble cousin s home in Stromgard, for a game of Thrones and Storm Gods. It has been said that the fighting at this event was some of the best and most fun fighting many have seen and done in a long time. For those that have never been to a feast or event in Stromgard, we highly recommend that you make the trip to the lands held by Baron Sir Arnsbjorn and Baroness Reignlief. The hospitality and warmth we felt there from the people of Stromgard was second only to being here at home with all of you. This last weekend we saw many of you at the 25/15 Terra Pomaria Founding Revel. Thank you to all who attended, and to all who were not able to attend you were sorely missed. Thank you to Their Highnesses of the Summits for gracing our event. The feast prepared by HL Mhairi, as usual, was outstanding. Congratulations to the tournament champion Earl Sir Duncan Ross the Black. Much fun and revelry was had by all, thank you to those that attended and made this event to celebrate our Barony's rich history such a success.

Next, we are off to the northeastern marches of the Kingdom to witness and celebrate the Coronation of Crown Prince Tiernan and Crown Princess Miranda. May they have a blessed reign upon the Sable Lion Throne. We would like to support the words of the Seneschal, Our Barony needs officers, many of our officers have held several different offices over the past few years, and some would like to move on to other endeavors. We need new people to get involved in the running of our baronial activities. So, if you are interested in taking on a leadership role and want to help guide the barony's future, if you have ideas that may help the barony prosper and thrive, or if you just want out help out and love to serve, please contact the Seneschal and she will help you get involved. We have two events coming up in the next two months; "The Long and the Short of it," in August, and "Summits Fall Coronet," in September. Please contact the event stewards and get involved, it is a great way to meet people and learn about the SCA and how things work. Many hands make for light work and more fun for all. Yours in Service, Sir Roland and HL Emma von Bern Baron and Baroness of Terra Pomaria. Seneschal: Greetings unto Their Excellencies and the Populace of Terra Pomaria! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and is able to travel throughout the Kingdom spreading the goodwill that Terra Pomaria if known for. We are an active barony in an active Kingdom so I encourage all of you to travel to a branch you have not been to before and meet some new people and experience new things. Serve your barony through serving other branches and the Kingdom, work gate, do fire watch, marshal or any other service you may enjoy.

You can serve your Barony here at home too! We have many open offices this month. If you are interested in becoming an officer please contact myself or the officer in question. The following offices are open for bid: Chatelaine (last month) Constable (month1) Heavy Marshal (month 3) A&S (month 1) Web Minister (month 2, 1 applicant) Water bearer Scribe Many of these are greater offices. It is vital that we have these filled! Being an officer is a great way to serve your Barony as well as learn more about how the Society works as a whole. You can use these opportunities to meet new people and teach others about the aspects of the Society that you love. So STEP UP! Become an officer in the Greatest Barony of ANTIR! Saturday, 3 November 2007 The shadows lay long and deep along this lonely and remote mountain crossing in the eastern Carpathian Mountains. The winds pick up. Flashes of lightning assault the dark. Thunderclaps torture the mountaintops. And rains soak you to the bone. The horses pulling your coach seem ready to bolt in mad terror as they shiver and Winnie nervously. Just when all hope of shelter seems vain, an inn appears out of nowhere it s not even on your map. The swinging shingle above the arched entry reads: The Red Spike Inn. You knock on the oddly-shaped heavy wooden door a coffin lid? The door opens with a slow creak and you find yourself greeted by Vostroi the innkeeper. It is good to get out of the wind and rain and the Inn is warm and inviting, with a table in the middle of the room set with a variety of inviting dishes of food that appear freshly prepared, as if you were expected. The innkeeper says, Please come in. Sample the zakuski. Warm yourself by the fire. I ll have Igor put your horses in the stable and prepare you a room for the night. Unfortunately, the bridge ahead has just been washed away. A slide has also barred your passage back. You might a well stay the night and make yourself comfortable if you can. You wonder to yourself how he knew the road conditions and what he meant by if you can. You let the thought pass, shrugging your shoulders and taking a bite of the zakuski. It is comforting to pass the time chatting with friends and the fabulous strangers you meet at the Inn, who have also found shelter from the storm, and together you partake of various games of chance and skill by the bright central fire. Murder Mystery: Sometime during the evening you may find yourself caught up in a strange and dark mystery of blood curdling proportions and you wonder if you will survive the night. The Barony of Three Mountains will also be holding its Arts & Science Championship during this event. (see below) Murder Mystery and Arts and Sciences Championship (what a combination, eh?): During the murder mystery evening, Three Mountains will also be seeking its next Arts and Sciences Champion. Come, show your prowess in the arts and sciences and vie for the title. Requirements: Three entries of any type, either art or science, and appropriate documentation. Entries will be judged on documentation, workmanship/craftsmanship, and design/aesthetics. Remember, this is a local competition, so the documentation doesn't have to be extreme. Please see the judging form on the Three Mountains website for details on what the judges will be looking for. Notification of your intent to compete must be given by Sunday, September 30,

2007 so we have plenty of time to line up judges for you. Notification can be verbal or in e- mail or other written format and should be given either to Their Excellencies, the current Champion Andrew Stuibhard, or the A&S Minister, Giana Visconti. (Contact information below.) You will need to present a letter of intent during Court, at the event, in addition to this notification. Contact Information: Their Excellencies Alfric and Jill at alfricandjill@comcast.net, Lord Andrew Stiubhard, A&S Champion at lyoncoeur@yahoo.co, and HL Giana Visconti, Minister of Arts and Sciences, at GianaVisconti@comcast.net Pot-Luck: (In keeping with the style of the event and the A&S Championship) zakuski is Russian for hors d oeuvres and the Autocrat, Vostroi, has recipes to assign to those who wish to participate (i.e. eat). In an effort to create an authentic experience the autocrat is requesting only period/event appropriate snack food and he has recipes available. So if you wish to dine at the event and be a part of the potluck, contact the autocrat for your assigned zakuski dish. Please write or call the Autocrat, Vostroi, (Sean Hinckley) to obtain a recipe: vostroi@gmail.com or 503-247-3504 or send a note to him at 5925 N. Gay Ave., Portland, OR 97217 no later than October 20th. IF you care to do your own research you are welcome to bring a period zakuski dish based on a recipe of your own but please notify the Autocrat so he can log your participation. (Those doing their own research will be asked for documentation.) All the pot-luck zakuski dishes will be judged by all the other participants, based on authenticity, presentation, and taste. Baron Master Vostroi will present a prize to the people s choice based on those three criteria. This is a dry site and all suitable beverages are BYOB in period containers only. Please respect the hard work that the cooks contributing to the pot-luck have put forth; if you do not have the time or inclination to participate in the period zakuski potluck, be sure to make other dining arrangements for you and your party. Time and Location: From 3 PM until 10 PM at the Parkrose Masonic Lodge located at 4812 NE 102 nd Ave. Portland, OR 97220. (See map below.) Site fee: $3.00 per person for members with proof of membership and $6 for non-members ($3 non-member surcharge.) Make checks payable to SCA, Inc. Barony of Three Mountains.
