2 nd AirTN Forum in cooperation with DLR 8 th - 9 th October 2012 Frankfurt Airport, Germany Greening of transport is a top societal challenge. Aviation is contributing only to few percentage of total transport emissions but it is always at the forefront of R&TD and regulation to ensure a continuous reduction of environmental impact. The need to reduce CO 2 emission, the increasing oil cost, and the foreseen peak oil are pushing to develop new alternative fuels. The need to respect aviation strict requirements, to understand the environmental effects, to develop a sustainable life cycle for alternative fuels calls for R&TD, new investments, new business models. 6
Preliminary Agenda Scenario o Oil peak o ATS impact on Environment: Air Quality and Climate Change o Aviation fuel demand and Alternative Fuel EC R&TD Policy International Standard and Rules o Transport modes ad optimal fuels across Transport modes o International Activities and Standards (ICAO) 2 nd Thematic Forum Alternative fuel production and environmental impact Airlines and Operators o Greening Operations o Alternative fuel testing European and National R&TD results o Clean Sky o SESAR o Other projects 7
