WEEKLY MARKET REPORT April 2th, 212 / Week 16 For a second consecutive week the BDI continued to increase, ending the week above the 1, benchmark (1,67 points / +9.77%) for the first time since 16th January 212. The winner for yet another week was the BPI, which increased by 28.41%, reaching 1,487 points. The BPI is on a rally, having risen 5% in the last month alone. On the other hand, the BCI declined by 2.48% this week, while the BSI and BHSI ended at 8.97% and 4.7% higher respectively. In the dry sector, it seems that the activity is picking up with several inspections taking place and a decent number of deals taking place during the last week. Two Imabari resales, one supramax (61, dwt / June 213) and one handysize (37,3 dwt / May 212) have been sold for US$ 28.2 and 22.5 million respectively. The panamax bulker PETKA (75,46 dwt / 1994 blt Denmark) was committed for US$ 9.6 million to Indian buyers, including t/c back for 1 year at US$ 1, per day. In the supramax sector we have some interesting sales to report. The HIRYU (,928 dwt / 23 blt Oshima) has been sold for a firm US$ 17.7 million to Greek buyers, while the slightly smaller AEGEAN FALCON (5,296 dwt / 2 blt Mitsui) is sold for US$ 14.3 million to Greek buyers as well. In the handy sector, the SH BRIGHT (29,828 dwt / 26 blt Shikoku) fetched US$ 15.7 million and the older box shaped/open hatch ARMSTRONG (27,9 dwt / 1995 blt Naikai) was sold for US$ 7.75 million. We understand that 6 x 176, dwt capesize bulker resales ex Jihnai shipyard are on subjects until next week at US$ 36.5 million a piece, to three different buyers, however it remains to be seen if sale of all units will materialize. They are scheduled for delivery from April 212 until 3rd quarter of 212. On the tanker side the activity was significantly lower, with the only noticeable deal being that of the MR tanker MERIOM LILY (5,35 dwt / May 212 Guangzhou) which was sold for US$ 29.3 million to U.S. based buyers. In the new building front we are reporting an order for 3 fuel-efficient Tess 45 Box design handymax bulkcarriers on behalf of Wisdom Marine Lines, scheduled for delivery in 214. Sun Enterprises, following their long relation with HHI, placed an order for 2 LR1 tankers with delivery in 213/14. Demolition activity continues unaffected with the price levels to remain firm at 47-49 levels in the subcontinent and around 435-445 in China. WeberSeas, Weekly Market Report Page 1 of 9
