1 WEEKLY MARKET REPORT September 21st, 2007 / Week 38 Dry cargo rates soared (again) at the end of the week and a Cape bulker was rumored to have been chartered today for a front haul voyage at a rate equating to $190,000/day! Panamax levels continue to amaze as the short period rate went to $80,000/day and a quick trip was done at $90,000/day. A newbuilding Caper 170,000 DWT delivery mid 2008 in Korea was rumored to have been sold for $137 mill. but the report was never substantiated. Large newbuilding orders continue unabated with CMB/Bocimar spending $360 mill. for 10 x 33,500 DWT handysize bulkers at Samjin Corp. in Korea for delivery between September 2009 to December Tanker spot rates firmed early in the week, especially in the larger vessel sizes and while there are still very few tankers being sold, values are holding.
