BY THE WATER

WAVES AND WHIRLS At the beach, use your hand to make waves and whirls in the water and ask your child to imitate you. Then do the same with your foot. Exercise your child s balance and motor coordination.

LEARN ABOUT WAVES AND WHIRLS Show the flashcard with the wave to your child. Ask if they remember the movement they did with their hand in the water to make a wave. Perform the movement together. Next, do the same with the whirl card. Name the movements you perform and indicate the appropriate cards.

WHAT IS WET? WHAT IS DRY? Pour a bit of water onto your child s hands, feet, etc., and name the parts of the body. Ask your child which parts of the body are wet and which are dry.

SING AND SHOW PARTS OF THE BODY Teach your child the lyrics of the song below. Point to the corresponding parts of the body while singing the song together. APPLYING SUNCREAM Prepare two containers of suncream, one for you and one for your child. Apply the cream onto your body, naming the parts of the body. Ask your child to imitate you. 1) open sun lotion 2) put a little on your hand 3) apply on your mother's back Ask your child to help you apply the lotion to your back, then have them ask you to do the same for them.

SAND CASTLE Build a sand castle with your child. Don t give your child the shovel or the bucket immediately. Instead, hold it in front of you so that your child can see it and has to ask for it.

REX THE LIFEGUARD At the beach or at home, show your child this cartoon about Rex the dog who becomes a lifeguard. After watching, ask your child what happened in the cartoon. Underline the characters emotions. When was the boy happy, and when was he afraid? When was Rex afraid? When was the lifeguard angry? Play voice-acting with your child: voice the characters that appear in the cartoon.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL? Help your child learn their own emotionality by naming the emotions they are showing. For instance, ask them, What are Rex and the boy doing that makes you feel sad? or What are Rex and the boy doing that makes you feel happy?. Talk about why your child feels a particular emotion, and if it s a negative one, tell them what can make them feel better, like hugging or playing together.

WHAT FACES DO THEY MAKE? Watch other people with your child. Guess their emotions. In the same manner, you can watch animals and guess the reasons for their behavior: the dog is wagging its tail because it s happy about going for a walk, the cat ran away because it was too loud, etc.

TAKING A BATH When your child is taking a bath, point to parts of your body and name them. Ask your child to point to their parts of the body along with you. Then, start pointing to different parts of your child s body and ask them what they are.

IN THE MOUNTAINS

WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN THE MOUNTAINS Show your child the pictures and talk about the things you can see during a trip to the mountains. For each picture, ask your child what sounds can be related to it. Think of the sounds together. For instance, on a meadow, you can hear grasshoppers singing, leaves rustling; but when there are children on the meadow, you can hear laughter and shouts.

WHAT DOES NOT MAKE A SOUND? Tell your child about the pictures. Make sounds together. Ask your child to pick pictures with things that you can hear in the mountains.

WHO WORKS IN THE MOUNTAINS? Show the picture of a mountain guide to your child. Ask your child, What do you see?, Who s the person in the picture?, and What are they holding in their hand?.

HIKING WITH A MAP Draw a simple map with your child that you ll use to teach them to follow a route. The child s task is to follow the route on the map on their own and find the treasures of the forest, such as a pine cone, a leaf, a stone, a twig, or a mushroom. You can do this activity at a part or in your backyard. If your child doesn t know where to go, they should ask you for help.

SOUND CHARADES Prepare the flashcards with the sounds of the forest. Take turns to make the sound appropriate to each picture. The other person tries to guess the sound.

FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS - BE SAFE! Let your child pick their favorite plush toy. Place the toy on a chair. Tell your child that the toy is now flying on a plane, and that it could fall off the chair without something to protect it. Demonstrate this by shaking the chair. Next, fasten the toy to the chair using belts made from a scarf or a neckerchief (make the scarf of neckerchief crisscross on the toy s chest, and tie it to the backrest). If the toy falls off the chair, explain the point of seat belts to your child: they protect you from falling off and hitting yourself, and allow you to hold on to them for safety. Ask your child to shake the chair and explain why the toy didn t fall off.

WHAT KINDS OF PLANES ARE THERE? Print out the coloring page and ask your child to color in the pictures. Mention the names of the planes. Ask your child whether they know these names. Explains what the planes carry. plane Military aircraft

PLANE TRAVEL Play the video Hippo. Kids Airport Adventure to your child. While watching the video, name the characters emotions (anxiety, fear, happiness, etc.). Arrange a similar game at home using toys, building blocks, teddy bears, or action figures.

You can say, You re happy when..., You re sad when..., etc. Talk about why your child feels a particular emotion, and if it s a negative one, tell them what can make them feel better, like hugging or playing together. At the airport, encourage your child to watch other people and guess their emotions. For instance, someone waiting in a line might be impatient, so name the emotion. Maybe your child is getting impatient as well name that emotion, too.

IN THE CAR

PLUSHY IN A CAR Take the plush toy that you used to teach your child to fasten their seat belts with you into your car. Show your child how to fasten the seat belts. Let them fasten their toy first, then themselves.

IS THE PILOT WITH US? At home, play driver and pilot with your child. Explain what the driver and pilot do. Print out the sample tasks Take a pot cover or other round object and pretend that it s a steering wheel. Switch roles. The pilot tells the driver what room to go next to. The driver has a task to do in each room, such as putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher in the kitchen. Make engine sounds while driving. Arrange a similar conversation taking place in a taxi: Where do you want to go?. To the kitchen!. What are you going to do there?. I ve got to sweep the floor!. Please fasten your seat belts!.

You can say, You re happy when..., You re sad when..., etc. Talk about why your child feels a particular emotion, and if it s a negative one, tell them what can make them feel better, like hugging or playing together. PAT AND MAT REPAIR A CAR Watch this Neighbors episode with your child. While watching, comment on what s happening. Try to adjust your comments and tone of voice to the emotions shown in the video. For instance, use a sad voice to say, Oh, he s sad, or a happy voice to say He s glad! or Look at him smiling!. Encourage your child to talk about what happened and why the characters feel those particular emotions. You can pause the video to give you plenty of time for conversation. You can also voice the characters and come up with dialogs together with your child.

ON A TRAIN

WHAT KINDS OF TRAINS ARE THERE? Print out the coloring page and ask your child to color it in. Tell your child how the trains differ from one another. steam locomotive electric locomotive

CHOO-CHOO! Place chairs in a line, each chair behind the next one. Play going by train with your child. Make train noises and talk about occupations related to trains.

BUY A TICKET BEFORE YOUR TRIP Play buying a ticket with your child. Take turns between playing the ticket salesperson and the buyer. Decide on where the buyer wants to go. TICKET TICKET Print out the sample dialog from

SHAPES HIDDEN IN TOYS Take those of your child s toys that have the basic shapes. Name the shape in each toy with your child.

SHAPES HIDDEN AT HOME Walk around your house with your child and look for shapes in different rooms. Name the shapes, and ask your child to repeat the names. Differentiate between small and large shapes.

SHAPES ARE EASY Lay the flashcards face down. Ask your child to pick the cards, one at a time. For each card, ask them, What shape is this?. Name each shape. You can also match the captions to the cards. Optionally, you can cut out the shapes from the flashcards. Arrange the cut-outs into different shapes and come up with your own names for them.

SORTING Set tasks for the child to do in each room. Start by doing the tasks together according to the picture instructions. BATHROOM - sort the dirty clothes into white, black and colored, and put one of these sets in the washing machine CHILD S ROOM -sort building blocks and teddy bears into separate boxes KITCHEN - sort the cutlery into different compartments lay the table - large plate, soup plate, spoon, fork, knife, and glass; then the same for mum, dad, etc. As your child repeats the same tasks, give them less support each time until they can do the tasks on their own and, in the end, without the plan.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL? Help your child learn their own emotionality by naming the emotions they are showing. You can say, You re happy when..., You re sad when..., etc. Talk about why your child feels a particular emotion, and if it s a negative one, tell them what can make them feel better, like hugging or playing together. Encourage your child to watch other people and guess their emotions. For instance, someone who can t find the keys to the door before they go out might be angry. You can role-play this situation with your child and name the emotions.

EMOTIONS IN MAGAZINES At home, make a collage of photos cut from magazines. For instance, begin by looking for a photo of a happy person, glue it onto a sheet of paper, and label it happiness. Then do the same for other emotions, such as fear, sadness, pride, or surprise. Try mimicking the faces of people in the photos in front of a mirror. You can also write what causes you and your child you have a given emotion more than one reason under each photo, if you want.

OUTSIDE

IN THE BACKYARD, ON THE STREET, IN THE PARK... Draw your child s attention to large objects with basic colors and name the colors. Ask your child to repeat the names of the colors.

WHAT COLOR ARE DIFFERENT FRUITS? Ask your child to hold all flashcards in their hand. They then take out a card at a time, show it to you, and ask, What fruit is this?, What color is this?. Name the fruits and colors. Next, switch roles: now you show the cards to your child and ask them questions, and your child answers them. You can give yourselves points for correct answers. You can also match the captions to the cards.

WHAT COLOR IS THE SKY? During a walk, draw your child s attention to different objects, naming their color. Then, do the same, but try adding comparisons, for instance, It s red, like an apple, It s blue, like the sky, or It s green, like the grass.

You can say, You re happy when..., You re sad when..., etc. Talk about why your child feels a particular emotion, and if it s a negative one, tell them what can make them feel better, like hugging or playing together. When outside, encourage your child to watch other people and guess their emotions. For instance, someone waiting in front of a crosswalk might be getting impatient because they re in a hurry. Or perhaps they re tired, just like us, because it s late or because it s too hot. In the same manner, you can watch animals and guess the reasons for their behavior: the dog is wagging its tail because it s happy about going for a walk, the cat ran away because it was too loud, etc.
