Vol. 1/ 2012 Handling with CARE Customer Attentive Responsive Efficient Dear Friends, Welcome to the 1 st edition in 2012 of the BFS Cargo E-Newsletter. Sawasdee Pee Mai Krub! Looking back on 2011 it was another good year for BFS Cargo although we did have some huge challenges during the year, especially with the heavy flooding in October & November. I am pleased to say that business has recovered remarkably quickly and I think that speaks volumes about the strength I am pleased to say that business has recovered remarkably quickly and I think that speaks volumes about the strength of Thailand and the resilience of the David Ambridge Thai people. General Manager - Cargo of Thailand and the resilience of the Thai people. Not once during that crisis did any of my staff complain about their situation. They just came into work and got on with looking after our Customers. I am extremely proud and grateful to all of them. In 2011 we had a great success with E-Freight. Emirates Airlines was a key player in this success when they announced that they would only accept E-AWB on shipments to/from DXB. This was a key move and I congratulate them on this success. I hope that more Airlines adopt this approach in 2012. Looking forward to this year I really hope that Royal Thai Customs will mandate Advanced Manifest for Thailand. This is good for the country, good for the industry, and good for the Customers. Advanced information is good information. It can be used to carry out risk analysis before the shipments arrive in Thailand, improve Security, and reduce the number of shipments that require Customs Inspection. All these are very positive and have already been adopted in large parts of the World, including EU, USA, CANADA, INDIA, KOREA, TURKEY, INDONESIA, amongst others. We are now just one month away from the SECOND ANNUAL BFS CARGO AWARDS GALA DINNER 2012. February 17 th is the day and I hope to see many of you at this prestigious event. As I have mentioned before the whole evening is about CHARITY. We support the FOUNDATION FOR SLUM CHILD CARE here in Bangkok. The money that we raised last year was enough to support the Day Care Centre at On Nut for the whole year. That is great news and I thank all of the companies that attended last year and made their charitable donations. This year I am very proud to announce that we have a goal to build a new Day Care Centre in this area. I expect this to take 1-2 years to complete but we have a goal and I know that as a Cargo Community we can achieve this together. I visited the Khlong Toei Centre recently and saw 90 children being looked after. Only 40 children can be cared for at On Nut because the facility there is not owned by the Foundation, it is a Municipality building. Please believe me when I tell you that it is not luxurious in any way and children really deserve something better. Well, we intend to do that and have a permanent legacy that we can all be proud of. If you have any suggestions on articles you would like to see or contribute then please let me know. I hope you enjoy this month s edition.
