The websites I ve browsed have ready-made or custom-made dresses: Daughters of the Republic of Texas Laura T. Beavers Historian General Message from the DRT Historian General: Let s Play Dress-Up Let s have some fun at the historical banquet at the 2008 DRT Convention in Tyler. I d like to encourage you to wear period costumes of either the Pioneer or the Early Daughters period (late Victorian and Edwardian). To that end, I have consulted Dr. Bruce Winders at the Alamo and I searched the internet for costume resources. Suggested Reading: Calico Chronicles: Texas Women and Their Fashions 1830-1910 by Betty J. Mills (Texas Tech University Press) Dr. Winders suggested the following sources for authentic patterns. (He is far more interested in authenticity than I guess I am. ) 1. A documented 1840s pattern: The last pattern on the page and the Sutter's Fort 1840s Wrapper Dress. http://www.longago.com/westernwomen.html. 2. Historically correct cotton cloth: http://www.reproductionfabrics.com/. You can search dates or eras to find what you want. 3. Here is a site with some of the items we had in the trunk: http://www.jastown.com/. 4. Mainly Civil War, but it has women's shoes: http://www.blockaderunner.com/.
