President s Message Is it May already? I thought I just wrote a President s message for April. Maybe I should just quit going to bed at night because, I swear every time I wake up it has become a new month. The days are beginning to warm and daylight hours are getting longer providing plenty of tinkering time inside the garage and out. In the past, we have mostly thought up tours or other special events to get together once a month. Wouldn t it be fun to get a call from a friend to meet them for a cup of coffee or some ice cream, or get together to drive over to a fellow club member s place to give a hand on a project. Our club, I hope feels to many as one big extended family, it is and should be a goal for all of us to make contact with those who aren t able to come out due to health or other obligations and remind them if they need anything we are here for them. Our time in Boise, Idaho was well spent, what a beautiful part of the country. The Annual Meeting this year was closed but the board members answered any questions that were of concern. I look forward to answering any questions any of you may have during our General meeting. I also look forward to hearing about how the Kingman Arizona tour went. Car show season is upon us, and what better place to spark the interests of perspective future members, get out there and drive, meet others. It s not just the cars that keep us together it is the people. It will be June before you know it so start getting ready for the Alpine History tour. I am wishing everyone a happy month of May with safe driving in your travels. See You Soon, Sunshine (and Showers) Report Again, nothing has been reported to we hope all is well with everyone. Remember to call me at 949-492-4255 or email me at judynjohn@burrellteam.com when something happens, so I can send out cards or call. We care about all our members in the San Diego Model T Club. Ben Yumori Award Presentation Presentors, Jennifer Hubenthal Sayer (Ben Yumori s granddaughter ) and Eric Sayer with recipients of the Ben Yumori Award, Ed and Karen Archer (center) at the 2016 National MTFCA meeting in Boise, Idaho. Coastal Tour - April 23 by Tony Bowker Cars lined up prior to the tour The Phillips new abode We had a good turnout of nine cars and about 16 people despite a competing tour scheduled by the HVMTC club. We met about 9 am at Mission Bay, just north of the Visitors Center, where Tony handed out the tour instructions. The route took us through the North end of Claremont and then onto Genesee and past Torry Pines along Hwy 101. The traffic was not too bad and all went well. We reached the North end of Encintas where we detoured up some small hills to the beautiful new home of Roger and Eleanor Phillips. Eleanor had prepared coffee and goodies for all participants, various family members, and other folks who dropped by for the event. They have a great view of the ocean from both the front and rear doors. We also raided Roger s old T spares box, which he no longer needed as he sold his last T, for the November auction. After a really nice time, we dropped down the hill back onto 101 for the run into Carlsbad for lunch. Several of the members decided to stop by the Flower Fields while the rest of us wanted lunch. Unfortunately Fish House Vera Cruz is now closed. Several of us went to a small Mexican restaurant next door but others fancied something else, they were wise. At 2 pm we all reassembled for the run down 101, unfortunately Tony had problems with his Stromberg OF (again, three fails in 3 tours) and we left the Coupe in Encinitas where John Chapman drove me back to Mission Bay. We later found out that everyone got home with no further incidents. Great day out, that coastal road is just perfect for the speed of Model Ts. The group enjoying breakfast at the Phillips 4
