Volume 32, Issue 5 Early September 2008 Frank Griffin President 2007 GMC Great Lakers Upcoming Rallies Balloon Festival Rally September 11, 12 & 13 Midland, MI Men s Salvage Mart Rally October 10, 11 & 12 Elkhart, IN Hello Again, Seems like I just wrote my column the other day for the newsletter. Oh Well, here it goes again! It was wonderful to have such a large group of member s at this past rally, yet so very heart breaking to lose one of your members. Our hearts and prayers are with are with John Harvey and Betsy Morley for their losses Busy cleaning the house, doing laundry, mowing the lawn and all that stuff before taking on the real projects you want to do, like working on the Motorhome. Seems like your always have to work your way down the list to what you really want to do. I am going to try and get the condenser repaired on the Dash Air so I can recharge it at the Balloon rally. It sure was a hot ride last week without it. Enough about me hope everyone got home OK safe without problems. Hope to see you all at the Balloon Festival Rally. Barb and I will be going in early! sbc76frank@sbcglobal.net

2 of 10 11/24/2011 4:53 PM 40 coaches were in attendance for the GMC Great Lakers August rally at Baylor Beach Park in Navarre, OH hosted by Bill and Mary Jane Mauger. The weather was great with warm sunny days and cool nights. Thursday morning started with the shock to everyone of the untimely death of Ruth Harvey during the night in her sleep. Our condolences to John Harvey from all members, Ruth will be missed by all. Continued Page 2 The rally spirit seemed to brighten up considerably with the GMC Pinewood Derby held on Friday with many races contested in several classes. It brought all of us together for a time of healing with other GMC ers at the rally. The results of the racing are as follows: In the men s class: 1st- Frank Minolli 2nd - Frank Griffin 3rd - Dick Wilson In the modified class: 1st - Steve Harman 2nd - Worth Harman, In the Power Puff class: 1st - Dottie Harman 2nd - Kathy Wilson 3rd - Sara Halley In a family run off (grudge match) Worth beat Steve by 1/100 of a second. Steve said I will build a new one even faster for next time. Dottie who came in third said, we will see about next time! So who knows what class we may have to create next time, Maybe Super Modified or something. Special awards: People s Choice --- Walt Halley President's Award -- Kathy Wilson Host Award -- Bill & Mary Jane Mauger During the time at Baylor Beach Park we saw many members enjoying the diversity of the Amish area with sightseeing and shopping. Don & Barb Wirth attended the rally visiting during the day. Don & Barb extremely enjoyed their visit to the rally and left with a raised spirits. Saturday we ate at the Amish Door with a meeting following at the campsite. Again I would like to thank all those who helped especially Ray and Dillon. By mid-morning on Sunday most members had headed home after an eventful weekend. Mary Jane

3 of 10 11/24/2011 4:53 PM Here is news about the members. It was a bad week for the Great Lakers. Ken Morley passed away a week ago after a long bout with cancer. Ruth Harvey died very suddenly Thursday morning while attending the rally at Navarre, OH. Funeral and burial services will be private. Dick Milleson underwent Gaul Bladder surgery last week. Don Fisher completed his month long proton treatments at Indiana University and has returned home. Ray Swartzendruber is finally able to see after having surgery for a detached retina six weeks ago. It has made working on the GMCMI rally in Delaware difficult. On the brighter side it was good to see Don Wirth able to overcome some serious medical problems and attend the rally. We will keep these members in our thoughts and prayers. We will keep these people in our thoughts and prayers. If you have any information on members that have been ill or having problems please contact John Walton, Dick Olmstead or John Wright by email, snail mail or phone. Sunshine Jack This will be our last rally of the 2008 season, and it looks like it may turn out to be one of the best, The rally hosts of the McLeod s, Eskau s, Bolles, Barton s and Wrights, have put this rally together for you to enjoy, with a heated meeting room for our enjoyment along with full hook-up campsites.
