NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017 KAREN SUKSI, EDITOR Wallace Stegner, one of my favorite authors, mused about the Upper Mississippi in the 1980s in an essay, The River and wrote: Explorers always have the best of it. They get to see things before the wonder has worn off. It seems a bit harsh to me. I love visiting someplace for the first time. Okay, we re not discovering and documenting areas never before seen by Europeans, but we are discovering our own firsts/wonders. In 2018, we ll keep on the schedule a couple of traditional bookends but we ll be explorer s together of: geese migrations and marshes; historic homes and forts; the fur trade; cranberry bogs and cherry orchards. If we can, we ll stay on public lands because, now more than ever, they need our active, vocal and economic support. When the trailers are snug for the winter, you can join some Airstream friends in celebrating St. Patrick s Day, Christmas and Hanukah. There s even an opportunity to hit the Oregon Trail and see an amazing number of Airsteams all in the same place. Our events are an opportunity to explore an area on your own or with others. There ll be lots of time to socialize, share and compare or do your own thing. I hope I can twist the arm of some of our experts to lead short seminars (over cocktails of course) to answer the questions of first timers and long timers on towing, parking, renovating, winterizing, maintaining and equipping our trailers joining national caravans or planning great trips. As always, folks who join us for the weekend are free to not participate in all or even most of the planned activities. We d love it if you d just stop by at some point and say hello. I m thankful to have an Airstream and to be able to share adventures with my fellow explorers and have the best of it to see things before the wonder has worn off. Let s hope the wonder never wears off. Happy Holidays. Greg and Jane Hyer

Unit 116 Scrapbook page: Rally/Luncheon shots taken in November/ December 2017 Thought we would introduce a new page series in our newsletter photos that reflect our activities scheduled during the year. Page 2

P.S. from the Editor: Don t know about you but I love to photograph my travels and the campsite. So, I thought it might be good expand the shots taken while traveling and put them into our newsletter. So in addition to a scrap book page, I am opening An Amazing Campsite photo page. Just send me via email (safari906@gmail.com) your photo and we will make sure it gets in the newsletter. Here s hoping for a great 2018 and a safe holiday season to you all. Best wishes, Karen Page 3
