RI President John Germ DG Michael Irving President Graham Lea Rickwood Cooper President 2015/16 TREASURER S BIRTHDAYS 1955 Presidents Message for the Rotator of the 8 th November I was pleased to welcome Catherine Bonifant back to our Club last week and to hear of her trip to India to participate and observe Polio Plus in action. I got the impression that India, and Rotary there is proactive and organised. As a result you may be keen to respond to the invitation from the Rotary Club of Agra Tajmahal to their Mega Campaign for Polio Free India, January 6 and 7, 2017. See Invitation elsewhere in this Rotator and see me for an application. It was also great to welcome Brett Meredith again, I m sure we all do our best to make visitors feel at home, however given that one of Michael s goals for the year was that everyone of us should invite at least one non Rotarian guest to a meeting through the year, we have a long way to go. A group of us had a very pleasant morning tea at the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens last Friday, thanks to the Rotaryannes initiative for us to view the Bird Signs for which we donated $5,300 from Carousel Funds. I think we were all impressed by the quality of construction and the art work of the signs. Good to be joined by David Baguley from Rotary Club Gold Coast, also major contributors to the Gardens and Rana an active Friend of the Gardens, to give us an update on developments on what is becoming a beautiful asset to our City. Don t forget next Tuesday s Meeting is our AGM when we are required to vote to approve the audited financial report for the 2015 16 year which will be presented by Treasurer Merv, if anyone wishes to peruse them in full prior to the meeting Merv will be happy to email a copy. We also vote to accept our Board for 2017-18, presented by President Elect Liz. On a lighter and more entertaining note we will hear from our Team that went to Charleville on the Rotary / Outback Links, Raising Spirits cooperative. Look forward to seeing you all then.. The meeting was then surprised by the arrival of two young girls and their mothers from the No Limits Cheer Dance Club for disabled children. Marion introduced Mandy Akehurst and daughter Chloe and Madeline. Both of the girls were in dance costumes made from material bought with donated carousel funds. Chloe and Madeline gave a short speech of thanks to the club and made a presentation to President Graham. Sergeant Peter Overell extracted fines from members. This week: Club Night. AGM Rotary Grant for Currumbin Community Special School I am delighted to let you know that the bikes have arrived and are in daily use by our students. See some photos attached. With Rotary's generous grant, we purchased 3 specially adapted tricycles with seat supports and clip straps, foot stirrups and velcro straps, adjustable handle bars and bells! 2 of the bikes are steered by a carer via a lever at the back. One can be steered by the rider and is used by our more independent riders. It is wonderful to see the students enjoying the mobility, independence and exercise that these bikes offer. They have also been a great motivator for communication exchanges, with two of the students using their picture symbols to request a bike ride every day since they arrived! Nicola Wassell Hello fellow Rotarians. We, the e-club of NextGen on the Gold Coast have embarked on a project to give Christmas Gift to our 900 Foster Kids.
