FROM THE CHAIRMAN The Rain Gods may have been unkind in July, but the Snow Gods spoke up in August and the forecast suggests the possibility of more falls late this week and early next. It has been a busy season at the lodge with most weeks fully subscribed and this is great to see thanks to those who have made the journey. To the rest of you, there is always 2017. There is still some space in the lodge over the coming weeks, so dust off your denims and grab your favourite t-shirt and get out for some spring time fun! And don t forget to get in early with your season pass (see below) and make 2017 even better. All the best. Jeremy Crisp NO SMOKING IN NSW NATIONAL PARKS From 1 st March 2016 the NSW government banned smoking in all NSW National Parks. By banning smoking in National Parks, the government says it will increase the enjoyment of these environments, reduce the risk of accidental fires caused by unextinguished cigarette butts, and reduces the primary source of litter, with cigarette butts comprising over a third of the measured litter in NSW. Exemptions for the ban will be provided for accommodation areas. The designated area provided for Karralika is the carpark area, which is the area directly outside the front door of the lodge (off the ski room). EPIC AUSTRALIA PASS The Epic Pass is available to purchase from the Perisher website, and is at its guaranteed lowest price until 11 th September. NPWS RABBITS AND CATS A message sent to all clubs from NPWS to help in the control of feral animals, please take the time to read. Feral Cats NPWS continues to trap for feral cats in and around the resorts this winter. Members and visitors are encouraged to report any feral cat sightings to NPWS Perisher Office (64574444), or to Dave Woods or Stephanie Martin on one of the contact options below. Animals are more readily trapped if we can place traps in the location of the most recent sightings. Your reports are acted upon and do make a difference to this program. Rabbits A broader baiting and shooting program is planned around the Perisher Range Resorts at the end of the snow season (after the NSW October School Holidays). However, some localised work has been undertaken where rabbit burrows have been identified. If you know of a burrow in the vicinity of your lodge please let us know. It may be under the building, under a log, within a boulder stack or concealed in adjacent shrubs. The burrow may be obvious or tracked by rabbit prints in the snow. To reiterate, please let us know of a rabbit burrow and not whether you see a rabbit per se. Small Mammals Small ground mammals including Southern Bush Rat, Broad-toothed Rat, Antechinus and possibly Mountain Pygmy-possum may wish to share your lodge. Occasionally this may include the introduced House Mouse. Each lodge has been issued with an Elliott Trap with the name of the lodge or club engraved. If you need assistance in either using the Elliott Trap, identifying the animal, relocating the animal, or if the issue appears to be greater than the capacity of one trap, again please contact Dave Woods or Stephanie Martin. dave.woods@environment.nsw.gov.au or stephanie.martin@environment.nsw.gov.au Phone: 02 6450 5616 or Mobile: 0418 689 250 PERISHER CUP The Perisher Cup will be run on Saturday 17 th September. The Perisher Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious ski competitions in Australia. First run in 1953, skiers represent their club as a team in this three-discipline event Giant Slalom, Cross County and Jump. This interclub competition has continued thanks to a collection of clubs who enjoy friendly interclub competition, respect the tradition of the race and enjoy a great social weekend. For entry and further details, follow the link below. Perisher Cup Entry LINK REGISTRATION cut-off Wednesday 15 Sept 2106 at noon

L ÉTAPE AUSTRALIA BY LE TOUR DE FRANCE The count-down is on for the first Tour de France event to be held in Australia on 3 rd December 2016. L Étape Australia by Le Tour de France is a cycling event run under professional conditions for amateurs, with closed roads, a challenging route, a Sprint and a King of the Mountain section. L Étape Australia will provide the closest experience an amateur rider can get to competing in the Tour de France with fully closed roads in the mountainous landscape of the Snowy Mountains. The event will provide a new dimension to the Australian cycle calendar, replicating L Étape du Tour (a stage of the Tour de France for amateur riders) in format, look and feel. For more information about the event, please visit the official website for L Étape Australia: www.letapeaustralia.com SUMMER EVENTS AND ENTERTAINMENT As we go to print, Perisher has not updated their events for the summer and autumn season, but check their website later in the year for all they have to offer. WINTER 2016 BOOKINGS The 2016 winter tariffs are listed at the end of the newsletter. There is still a few weeks left of the 2016 season, and spring is a great time to head down and enjoy blue sky days and sunny skiing. Take a look at the website to see availability. http://www.karralika.com/availability.html SUBMISSION OF BOOKING FORMS AND ACCOMPANYING PAYMENT Booking forms can now be submitted in one of two ways: 1) By Mail send completed form with cheque to the P.O. Box 57, Killara 2071 One cheque per booking. 2) By email send completed form via email to bookings@karralika.com, payments to be made by direct deposit. When you submit your booking form via email, please await confirmation from the booking secretary before depositing funds. When depositing funds, please remember to include your Bank Reference Number from your Membership Record (the same number you use when paying subs) The Reference Number should match the member name on the booking. One direct deposit per booking. WINTER ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES The arrival time for members and guests is not before 12.00pm. Departure time on Saturday must be by 9.00am. Should members wish to ski on their Saturday departure day, they will need to make other arrangements. Baggage should not be left in the lodge and use of the lodge after 9.00am on departure day is not permitted. ( * ) Please note we have had to move departure times forward one hour to better facilitate cleaning of the lodge. As our cleaner is responsible for several lodges on the mountain, it has proved difficult to ensure that the lodge is cleaned within the two hour 10:00am to 12:00pm window, with cleaning often extending into the early afternoon, thereby impacting arriving guests. Making the lodge available to the cleaner from 9:00am has allowed us to secure first place in the queue. We hope you appreciate the necessity for this change.

BOOKING PRIORITIES Booking priorities are unchanged and are in this order: - Member - Member and up to three guests (whether family (*) or otherwise) - Member s family - Other guests Priority bookings for members (and up to three of their guests) commence on 1st March as usual however in 2016 on a first in first served basis. From 1st April bookings are open to additional guests and still on a first in first served basis. We therefore recommend members get their bookings in as early as possible in March. (*) Member s family will be prioritised during school holidays. Please note that our lease only permits a maximum of 22 people staying at the lodge at any one time. Contravention of our lease obligations in this regard represents a serious breach of our lease requirements, and the Board reserves the right to terminate the membership of a member responsible for such a breach. Members are reminded that where they have recommended non-member friends to stay at the lodge but will not be staying at the lodge at the same time, they remain responsible for the actions of those guests including any breach of the lease terms mentioned above. PART WEEK BOOKINGS Part week bookings cannot cross booking weeks i.e. must run between Saturday-Friday, no Friday / Saturday night bookings. This is to enable maximum patronage of the club, and to assist in the smooth flow of bookings. CONCESSION RATES Responding to members the board has made a change to concession rates offered. Members children aged 18, until they turn 21 may stay at the concession rate. Members children who are still students aged 21, until they turn 25 may stay at the concession rate. Copies of Student ID may be required with bookings. BOOKING CANCELLATIONS If bookings are cancelled 21 days or more in advance of your first day of stay, a cancellation fee of $100 (per person) or cost of the booking, whichever is the lower, will be charged. If winter bookings are cancelled with less than 21 days notice, the full tariff will be forfeited except for when the accommodation is re-let in which case the cancellation fee will apply.
