Classes & Events Guide WINTER-SPRING January April 2018 Check our website for a complete listing of NPL classes & events. Tell Us Why NPL is YOUR Library! #itsmynpl www.norfolkpubliclibrary.org

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR Hello & Happy New Year! It s the start of a new year, which means new chapters unfolding for Norfolk Public Library (NPL)! This winter we continue our TREK for Civility in January, focusing on tolerance, respect, empathy and kindness. You can help us spread civility in our neighborhoods through a variety of events beginning with canned food drives and committing random acts of kindness. We ll explore Women s History Month through art, book clubs and more. Of course, April brings not only showers, but also National Library Week and Money Smart Week. We re looking forward to two new chapters the springtime will bring with the reopening of Horace C. Downing Branch and the grand opening of the Broad Creek Anchor Branch. Both of these libraries will provide the resources and programs you ve come to love from NPL, while showcasing new spaces, technology and other offerings. Our beloved Bookmobile underwent a tremendous overhaul during the course of the summer and fall. From a brand new exterior wrap featuring our City s skyline to upgraded technology components and interior finishes, the Bookmobile is ready to resume services! NPL will once again participate in Tidewater Reads taking place in April. This initiative promotes the value of reading while building a sense of community by engaging residents throughout the region in talking about the same books at the same time. This year, Tidewater Reads will focus on poet, educator and New York Times bestseller, Kwame Alexander. He has written a number of books for a range of age groups, so the whole family can get involved. Be sure to check it out! We re so excited to begin another great year with you! Stay up to date on everything we have to offer at NPL by visiting norfolkpubliclibrary.org. Don t forget to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and join the dialogue by using #itsmynpl!
