I sit here watched the rain fall after tending to my gutters and downspouts. After such a hot dry spell, the rain is a welcome interruption. The flowers will perk up and the yard will need to be mowed. Things that have struggled during the dry spell will find new life. This is the middle of our riding season. We have finished our plans for the rest of the year on the bike, if nothing goes wrong or changes. Tim & Wendy Watson from Chapter B have been selected as our new District Ride coordinator. Please welcome them to our team. They can be contacted at: Timsmark2000@sbcglobal.net The Fall officer meeting will be October 20th at the Wannamaker Lions club building 8822 Southeastern Avenue Wannamaker, In. The same place as the spring meeting just without the Snow I hope. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there so we can discuss the coming year. This has been a good year so far. Many chapters have been out on the roads and getting a chance to put on a lot of miles. One item I know is a problem and that is finding an ARC course to attend. I myself need to get one under my belt to stay current on my GWRRA level. This is where we can all pitch in and help. The Rider Education team needs your help in locating potential locations for ARC courses. The range needs to be 300 ft. X 220-250 ft. with no obstructions. Classroom areas would be nice, but we can use tents for this purpose. So, if you see a place that might fit the bill. Take some photos and get the name of the location, then forward them to Rick Warmels our District Ride educator. We can then contact the parties and see if we can hold the course there. Also invite your non-gwrra riding buddies to come and take the course with you. The course is not as expensive as many others and it is not pass/fail. The course is offered so everyone can receive insight on how better handle your motorcycle. The many tips and drills really help you learn how to maneuver any size motorcycle. Wing Ding is around the corner and I know your plans are set. I do ask one thing though, if you are going to be in Knoxville on Thursday, think about being a volunteer for Indiana. We are assigned to the pre-registration desk to check in those attendees. We will be there on 3 shifts 8-11, 11-2, 2-5. You can work as much as you would like. If you would like to work, contact me at: indd2016@yahoo.com Again, ride safe, ride long, Ray & Melinda Faber The Region D & Indiana District Newsletter can be found at www.indianaonwings.org/newsletters.phtml

A few weeks or so ago, all the District Educators were invited to have a Zoom call (video teleconference) with Anita Alkire, GWRRA President. She wanted to put some lingering issues to bed regarding all the GWRRA changes that happened in January. I ve only met and spoken to Anita once and that was a very brief hello at last year s Wing Ding. I didn t know anything about her background. When we started our Zoom meeting, Anita introduced herself and I found out she s been with GWRRA for decades, is a current Life Grand Master Tour Rider, and has held GWRRA positions at Chapter, District, Region, and now Super Do-Da. She wanted all us District Educators to know she lives and breathes GWRRA and is not an outsider who was hired to be President. She has a true passion for Rider Education and wanted to explain her vision going forward. Her primary goal is to remove administrative burdens from the Chapters so they can have more fun riding and interacting. You may not know but last year Chapter Educators, had to do monthly and quarterly reports about their chapters activities. They were supposed to keep track of the numbers at gatherings, rides, get togethers, and newsletter articles sent. Every month they had to send in a report to the District, who consolidated all the Chapter reports and sent a report to Region, where it again got consolidated, and then on to national. Anita says this reporting took away from everyone focusing on fun and riding. Anita is also wanting to get back to the days where Chapters and Districts did fun bike games where everyone at all levels could participate. Games like slow ride, weinee bite, shopping cart, board running, ball on cone, etc. These would be for all of us to participate in and have fun doing. I ve not actually done any of these types of games except for the slow ride. I m not sure how well Debbie and I would do but it sure would be a HOOT!. The key messages from Anita s call is she wants to put fun back down in the chapters and she wants everyone at the chapter to share safety tips and concerns. So let s get out there and have some FUN!!!!!!! Until next time Rick and Debbie Warmels Indiana District Educator Page 5
Hello Gold Wing Riders OK all Indiana Gold Wing Riders, coming up on the 18th of August will be the Central Indiana Ride In. This is number 3 for them and from what I can tell both previous Ride Inn s were a big success. It is scheduled to run from 10 am to 4 pm with food, games, door prizes and fun, let s all hope for great weather and enjoy the ride to and from the event. I am sorry to say there will not be a Northern Indiana Ride- In this year. Last year there was a big decline in attendance and along with that my schedule is full for August, September and October. I have not seen what the Southern Indiana people are doing but I have not seen anything scheduled. This will be my last reminder for Wing Ding in Knoxville Tenn., are you going it should be a great time. There are a lot of riding opportunities in the area to enjoy also from what I have read Knoxville has a lot of fun things to do. We are planning to arrive on Tuesday so we can attend the COY competition. Rick and Deb Warmels are the Last Region D COY and they deserve our support. So if you plan to arrive before 1:00 pm make an effort to come to the event and cheer them on. What is going on in and around the Northern part of the District; Chapter U2 out of LaPorte is doing Dinner Rides and of course having their monthly gatherings, if you want to plan a visit meet them at The Around The Clock restaurant in LaPorte, In. Chapter O2 from Elkhart In. is also doing their Dinner Rides and monthly gatherings and the chapter ride will be to southern Indiana to chapter B to capture the District Travel Trophy, they of course are hoping for 2 fantastic weather days. They also have a few chapter members attending Wing Ding. Chapter U, Angola is having the annual Hog Roast on August 4th, if you haven t attended you have missed out on some great food and a fun time. They are also having their monthly gatherings and from what I see in their newsletter they have many rides scheduled, these guys are really active! Chapter F in Warsaw is doing their monthly gatherings as well as Dinner Rides and they have done a few chapter rides, some by 4 wheels because of inclement weather. (That is great.) Well that is all I have for this month, but one last thought, August is here and that means summer is about to wind down. The weather will get cooler and leaves will start to fall. You need to prepare you riding for this change and as always be careful out there. Till next time ride often and ride safe. Wolfgang & Connie Gless Northwest Team Member Page 6
92 COUNTIES CHALLENGE The 92 COUNTIES CHALLENGE is to get an individual member, not a chapter, to tour as many counties as possible in Indiana between April 1 and October 31, 2018. The person needs to verify their presence at the POINTS OF INTEREST by keeping a photo of them or their bike/car at the designated location. The photos will only be requested for verification from the two winnerså at the end of the contest. A couple can participate as individuals, each with their own sheet. The POINTS OF INTEREST form is provided with a column on the left side for riders to keep record of the date they were at the destination. A $100 prize will be given to one individual who completes the challenge or who visits the most locations. In case of a tie in the most locations visited, a drawing will be conducted to choose the one winner of the $100. A second place prize of $25 will be given to an individual who is in a drawing of all the riders who visited a minimum of sixty of the designated locations. The person who has 60 or more sites and was declared the winner, will not be eligible for the second-place drawing. The POINTS OF INTEREST are locations in each county to give the rider a destination. The address for many of the POINTS is provided while the rider will have to do some research to develop an exact route to others. The rider does not have to go into a location, purchase admission ticket, eat there, or do anything other than actually visit the location. We encourage riders to take advantage of the fact they are visiting some interesting locations but being at the location is the only factor considered in this challenge. Photos and verification of location visits will only have to be submitted by the winner of the $100 and the second place winner of the $25 to verify they were actually eligible to be declared winners. In order to determine who should be included in consideration for first place and included in the drawing, riders can scan their filled out POINTS OF INTEREST sheets, with dates they visited filled in, to mocpath@comcast.net OR they can mail the forms to Lonny Hunter, 1123 E 650 S, Markleville, IN 46056. For questions regarding the challenge, feel free to call or contact: Lonny Hunter 765-425-5213 mocpath@comcast.net Page 7
