If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Aventura City of Excellence School Highlights The annual Winter Showcase was a great success. Over 200 students participated. ACES boys soccer team won the International Athletic League Championship for the 2014 season. This makes three IAL Championships for the ACES athletic program. 78 fourth grade students traveled to St. Augustine to learn about Florida history first hand. They visited forts, experienced colonial life and participated in a cavalry drill. Kindergarten and first grade students enjoyed "Stella the Queen of Winter" at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center. Fifth grade students traveled to Jonathan Dickinson park where they learned about its vibrant habitat. ACES participated in the annual spelling bee. Appointments to City Advisory Boards Formal action has been placed on the January 6, 2015 Meeting Agenda to appoint members to the Community Services Advisory Board and fill a vacancy on the Arts & Cultural Center Advisory Board. Police Department Statistics & Highlights Monthly Crime Overview Crimes from October 2014 to November 2014 that increased: Robbery up by 6; Simple Assault up by 15; Aggravated Assault up by 4; Larceny up by 12. Officer Ricardo Moreno was selected as Officer of the Month. Arts in Public Places Advisory Board The City received 7 responds to the RFP for the call for artists to provide public art on the exterior grounds of the Government Center. The Arts in Public Places Advisory Board met on August 14, 2014 to select finalists. Petra Liebi-Osborne and Beth Nybeck were named as finalists and were interviewed on October 28, 2014. The Board decided not to accept the proposals and will issue another call to artists early next year. Community Garden All 23 planters are leased. The City website had 35,000 viewers, Charter School Website had 15,000 viewers and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Website had 20,000 viewers. The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Website was updated to provide for a more user friendly experience. Major Capital Improvement Projects Status Report Design of NE 188th Street Park The firm of Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. was selected to perform park design and engineering services. Surveying of the site is in process and a programming meeting has been scheduled for January. The FPL easement dedication approval to provide electrical service to the site is scheduled for the January Commission Meeting. Biscayne Lake Gardens Road Resurfacing Plans and permit applications have been filed with the County. NE 30 th Avenue Street Lighting Project (NE 203 rd Street to NE 207 th Street) Final design is by early January 2015 and is being coordinated with the Parks Square Development. NE 29 th Avenue (North) Street Improvements Final design and permitting is scheduled to be submitted to the County and DERM in January 2015. City Manager Briefing Report 5
NE 29 th Avenue (South) Improvements The owner of the Publix shopping center is in the process of submitting plans to redevelop the center. The City will be coordinating with their engineers regarding drainage and roadway work at the common property line. Final design and permitting is scheduled for February 2015. NE 207th Street Road Resurfacing Plans and permit applications have been filed with the County. NE 185th Street/Biscayne Boulevard Median Channelizing Modification Design and permitting of lengthening the WB left turn lane storage length has commenced. Construction of the turn lane extension and placement of the Quick Curb Delineators are to be done concurrently. The project should begin in spring of 2015. The budget will be amended to include this project. Traffic Video Monitoring System The first phase of this project which involves updating and repairing the current system is underway. ACES School Flashers Plans will be submitted to Miami-Dade County Traffic for approval on installation of 2 twosided flashers in January 2015. Additional crosswalks and school signage modifications will be included in this project to reflect the new ECHO development. Installation of flashers will further draw motorists attention to the fact they are driving through a reduced speed school zone and this consequently further reduces risks to pedestrians and students.
