Letter From the Editor I hope you were able to attend our Holiday Dinner a week or so ago. This year we had the dinner at Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi Too!, an Italian restaurant in Dublin. We had fourteen members and guests in attendance. The food and the wait staff were excellent. I arrived around 6:30 to let them know the final head-count and have them save the cake for after dinner. I expected to be the first there, but I found Rob, Zandra & Ceasar, from Napa, were already sitting in the bar area. Shortly there after others started showing up. But right at 7:00 they had the table all set and we proceeded to sit down and the waiter took good care of us. Even doing separate checks which made it much easier! When I stopped by a few days earlier to give them a head-count and menu selection list (as best I knew), I spoke with the manager on duty then and he said that our group was not too large and we could probably just order off the regular menu. I didn t think much more about this. On Saturday night when we were seated they handed everyone menus and I just assumed we could order what Internet Web email http://clubs.hemmings.com/corsanews CaCalkins@astound.net we wanted. Then half way through the dinner the manager this evening (the same lady I had originally spoke with)came up to me and asked if this list of dinners she had was ours. This was the same list written up when I stopped by a few days earlier. I said yes (see Letter... on page 3) On The Cover: Our 2016 Annual Holiday Dinner was held at Frankie, Johnnie & Luigi Too! in Dublin. One of the rare times you will see me in a photo. Letter... that was ours but when we were seated the waiter gave us all menus so we assumed that we should order off that. After all the other manager (who was also on duty this evening) had said we probably would do this. Well as it turned out that they had made up the banquet menu items and were keeping them separate. So now they had 10 or so extra dinners in the kitchen. Oops! Anyway when we left I spoke again with the manager as I felt bad about the mix up. She said Don t worry about it, it was our mistake. Well I guess the staff will at least eat well this night! Interestingly after the last meeting when we had selected Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi as the restaurant of choice, I stopped by the following night to make the reservation. Originally we wanted Saturday Dec 3 rd but this was booked and I chose the next weekend, Dec 10 th, which was still available. Also they said that with a group our size (I had estimated 15-20 people based on our previous responses) we would need to pre-order off the Banquet Menu. As I wasn t certain this would be acceptable, I sent off emails to our Board to be sure they thought this would be okay or else I could explore other options. They said this was fine so I made up the flyer with the Banquet Menu and asked people to let me know if and how many would be coming and what their selections would be. A week or so later I was starting to get nervous because I hadn t heard from anyone and I was thinking that if I needed to change the reservations that time was running out. But shortly there after I started getting some responses so I decided to wait a bit longer before panicking. In a few days I would send out a second request to those I hadn t heard from but expected to. This brought in more responses and brought the head count to twelve or so. When there was only a week remaining before the dinner I phoned all those I could whom I still hadn t heard from just to be sure they had gotten the message. I know I worried too much and I hope I didn t bug people more than necessary. I wanted the dinner to be well attended as some were driving a long way on what turned out to be a rainy day. Now on to something completely different. Skip Polacchi, a long time SFBA member and Corvair Parts vendor, sent in the following note: Hello Clark, Thelma and I traveled to Palm Springs and participated at the GWFBT. We enjoyed socializing with many of our SFBA club members. The GWFBT was a well organized event. Paul Lacey stopped by my sellers space and we shared old stories and current events. Thelma and a few wives were able to do some shopping and site seeing on Saturday. Yes the ride down and back is long but we lay over at Fresno. Best of health & spirit to you and Carol. Skip also sent in a new list of items for sale. See the Classifieds. Also in the last newsletter I showed a picture of a vendor at the Fan Belt Toss where I said I couldn t tell who the vendor was. That was Skip! To see why I missed this, I went back to try and get the original photo I used from the Cactus Corvair Club s web site but the page was no longer there. I wonder if the Club objected to me borrowing the photos they published? Quite possible. Oh well. Our next meeting will be on January 5 th at 7:00 PM again at Black Bear Diner in Danville. See you there! SFBA Corsa - January 2017 page 3

South Coast Corsa Corvair Car Show At the Holiday Dinner Josh Deitcher (new SFBA member) showed some pictures of a Corvair Car Show he attended in Downey, CA (Southern California area). He and Chris Rogers (a former SFBA member which you probably remember) drove his 64 110 convertible. This was held at the original Bob s Big Boy Restaurant. He was pleased that his car made it there and back with no problems. Even took the Questa Grade without issue. He sent me this note and lots of pictures. Look at all of the Corvairs that showed up! Hi Clark, I wanted to thank you again for putting on the dinner on Sat. It was great to meet you guys and dinner was pretty good, too! You mentioned that you would be interested in some pictures from the South Coast Corsa show earlier this year at Bob s Big Boy (Formerly Johnnie s Broiler) in Downey that I drove my 64 down to. I have attached a few (see Car Show... on page 6) SFBA Corsa - January 2017 page 5

Let me know. Happy Holidays to you and your family, ~ Josh Here is Josh with his sign proclaiming he traveled 500 miles to get to the Car Show.
