Friends of EcoPark Scheme Paving towards Sustainable City through Converging Efforts [Hong Kong, 1 November 2016] Supports and participations of all sectors in society is vital important for the success of recycling valuable resources and turning waste into precious materials. Being the Hong Kong s first recycling-business park specially constructed for recycling industry, EcoPark has its aspiration to promote Greener Hong Kong. Not only does it provide long-term land at affordable cost to the recycling industry, encourage investment to high value-added recycling technology, EcoPark also launches the Friends of EcoPark Scheme (the Scheme) since 2010 so as to encourage partnership development among public sectors, private sectors and the EcoPark tenants (the tenants) with the view to making various supportive channels to assist the operations of the tenants recycling businesses, such as supplying waste resources to the tenants and helping waste collection for the tenants. The 2016 "Friends of EcoPark" Award Presentation Ceremony was held successfully on 1 November 2016 (Tuesday) at HKPC Building, Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong with award certificates being presented to 119 organizations, which is the highest among previous years. Awardees of the Scheme are from different industries and trades, including manufacturing, construction, catering, servicing, hotel, property management, retail, public corporations, government departments, etc. and sincerely commending and appreciating for their long term commitment to environmental protection and dedication to the tenants. Ecopark, occupying 20-hectare land, has been operating over 9 years. At present, the recycling businesses of the tenants have been developed to cover various waste materials, including waste plastics, waste metals, waste wood, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), waste cooking oil, waste rubber tyres, waste batteries, construction waste, waste glass, food waste and waste PCB. At the sharing session of the Ceremony, one of the EcoPark tenant, Champway Technology, showcased its recycling business for recycling waste cooking oil and organic oil and grease to renewable energy - the biodiesel. Resources (Zhongshan) Company, one of the Phase II tenants in EcoPark, introduced the fish feed production processes and the recycling of food waste to animal feed. Another EcoPark Phase II tenant, On Fat Lung Innovative Resources, unveiled its recycling / production process and demonstrated how to turn waste rubber tyres into flooring mat for playground. Two awarding organizations, Sailing Boat Catering Group and 香港新界養漁協進會, also shared how the Scheme has helped create win-win situation for partnering enterprises and recyclers. Some EcoPark tenants will commence their recycling businesses early next year, bringing in further increase of demand for recycling wastes, and alleviating the dependency of landfills. In the coming future, the Environmental Protection Department and the EcoPark Management Company will make every endeavor to maintain close communications with the tenants, and provide assistances and cooperation with a view to meeting the trade needs. Activity Highlights This year, there are 119 organizations being presented with the award certificates, which is the highest among the previous years and the Scheme successfully drives more organizations, institutions or companies to support for the local recycling industry.
