OAKLAND COUNTY TRAILS ADVISORY COUNCIL (OTAC) August 23, 2006 The meeting was called to order at 9:08 a.m. by Kristen Myers in the commission room of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission s administration PRESENT: Kristen Myers, Kristen Bennett, Amy Ploof, Jacy Garrison, Rachel Lonero, Sue Nyquist, Amy Murray, Merle Richmond, Bruce Austin, Dot LaLone, Kristen Wiltfang, Wesley King, Mat Gaberty, Brittany Bird, David Burley, Rich Sulla, Susie Sulla, Caryn Robinson, Joe Figa MINUTES: Dot LaLone made a correction the canoe launch will be at grade level. Amy Murray made a correction the Polly Ann Trail is HOSTING part of a fun run not SPONSORING a fun run. Dave Burley and Dot LaLone approved minutes CHANGES TO THE AGENDA: #5. No presentation by Nancy Krupiarz #7B (added) update on grant and trails coordinator position by Joe Figa TRAIL NETWORK UPDATE: Paint Creek Trail: Kristen Myers reported on the bridge walk Polly Ann Trail: Amy Murray reported that the bridge is being placed in early September on the trail. A contractor will be laying a finer material on 12 miles of the trail. The structure for management council is still being discussed and Addison wants back on board. Clinton River Trail: Bruce Austin had nothing new to report other than a lot of use and several complaints on the dust issue. West Bloomfield Trail: Dave Burley had nothing new to report. He stated that his millage was renewed and there has been a lot of use on the trail. Lakes Community Trail: not present Huron Valley Trail: Chris Doozan had nothing new to report. Headwaters Trail: Dot LaLone reported on the Ride the Rose event that will be taking place at Rose Oaks to Springfield Oaks on Sunday August 27, 2006. A special use permit was administered, lunch provided and a possible tour of the Ellis Barn is being considered. Woodward Corridor Trail: not present LETTER FOR OTAC MAP: No sticker was created for the map. Instead, a letter was written to explain the map. There was some confusion in the second paragraph of the letter. Dave Burley made a point that West Bloomfield would not use this letter. Not everyone
is having an issue, therefore the issue should be handled where there is an issue. Dave Burley approved the letter with corrections. It was stated that the letter should be available online, via email, and in hard copy. Kristen was going to work on a label template on the web to down load the letter as needed. Kristen Wiltfang supported the approval. TRAIL SUMMIT REPORT: The 4 th annual trail summit is being held at Indian Springs Metro Park on October 5 th, 2006. Speakers are being finalized and invitations are in the works. There will be no meeting in September due to the trail summit. UPDATE ON GRANT: The check has been received for the grant. TRAILS COORDINATOR POSITION: The 2 nd round of interviews are being held today. Brittany Bird from Oakland County Economic Planning & Development was welcomed to Oakland County Parks and Recreation as a new addition to the Design & Development section. LEGAL: 1224 passed Trust Fund Lawsuit: Not losing funding any time soon OTHER BUSINESS: Kristen reported on an interview with the Flint Journal on Oak Routes map the article showed over 70 miles of trails.
