Issue 26 Wednesday, January 24, 2018 Chartered 1st October 1959 Club 17767 District 9570 ABN 45 468 490 754 PO Box 610 Mackay Qld 4740 email info@mackaywestrotary.com.au PRESIDENT S MESSAGE: This week we welcome Garry Scanlon, CEO of the Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3). This Alliance is a collaborative effort between the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday Councils to deliver beneficial projects and initatives to our region. Last week s speaker Maggie McKeown from the Mackay Conservation Group, gave us an insight into their activities and the importance they place on reducing fossil fuel usage and moving to renewables. Ross Walker President, Mackay West Rotary Grace We break the bread of brotherhood. We thank thee Lord for all things good. May we, more blessed than we deserve. Live less for self and more to serve. Governor Malcolm Saunders and Christine The second working bee for the Riding for the Disabled was held on Saturday with eight members attending. Two top coats of paint were applied and at the meeting last week the Board also decided to lay new lino on the floor as it is in such a poor state. The new cupboards, lino and kitchen/ laundry facilities will now be fitted. This has been a good community project and the club can be satisfied the effort has been justified. The Board has committed a small amount of funds, along with all Group One clubs, to launch a new Rotoract club to be based at the Central Queensland University (CQU). Rotoract is for people aged between 18 and 30 years of age so please inform anyone who you believe would be interested. Some of our Interactors from Mercy College who will attend CQU may consider joining. With our new structure the club must change the constitution and by-laws and the Board will work from a model that has been approved by Rotary. All clubs now need a Youth Protection officer and Geoff Morgan has offered to fill the role. Last year s postponed District Conference will now be held at Agnes Waters from April 20 to 22. The President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) will be held in Gladstone from March 2 to 4. The new satellite club formed by Mackay North Rotary is up and running with eight members and will need 23 members to become a standalone club. I am going to be away for a couple of weeks and PP Col Meng will be filling my role for the next two meetings. Thanks Col. Ian Riseley President, Rotary International GOING TO MISS A MEETING?
