GREATER DAYTON CORVETTE CLUB (GDCC) Minutes March 20, 2013 President Freddie Haugh called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Forty-four members were present. ANNOUNCEMENTS/GUESTS Tony Spaziani said that the block party of his 60 th birthday and that of Corvette s 60 th anniversary is planned for June 30, the last Sunday in June. The definite time is unknown at this time, but Tony thought the party might start around noon and end around 5:00, 6:00, or 7:00 p.m. The Fairborn City Council approved closing the street in front of Giovanni s which will allow us to park our Corvettes at an angle rather than parallel. Tony is planning on having a couple of bands for entertainment, selling food, and t-shirts. Some t- shirts will be given as door prizes and a better quality to be sold. Tony is taking care of advertising to include radio, Facebook, flyers, and possibly putting banners around Central Avenue and the high school. Freddie thanked Connie and Mark Shank for hosting the Daytona Party. Jill Schlatter drew the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cars. Freddie talked to Dave First who had a defibrillator inserted on Monday. Dave came home from the hospital on Tuesday. Freddie talked to him this morning and Dave said he s doing fine especially with the pain meds. Except for stopping the heart as part of the procedure to make sure the defibrillator worked everything went well. SECRETARY S REPORT Mike Jones moved the minutes from the February meeting be accepted as written. Seconded by Pat Frymyer. Noted that Don Pennell objected and wanted the minutes read. TREASURER S REPORT Herb Smith provided the complete report. Herb sent flowers to Sue Smith. VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT Freddie called for the following committee reports in Dave s absence: SOCIAL Sharon Pennell recapped the following: March 23: Reminded everyone of the dinner at Treasure Island on Saturday night. Forty-two members have signed up. March 28: This is the last day to sign up for the Corvette Bash at the NCM, April 25-27. Contact Dave First if interested in attending. April 20: Bob Sledge is planning a trip to Pyramid Hill in Hamilton, Ohio. Plans are to meet at the Bob Evans at Wilmington Pike and Interstate 675

for lunch. In order to go through the house at Pyramid Hill, 35 people must sign up. A sign-up sheet was passed around. April TBD: Sharon and Don are planning a dinner out sometime in April at the Inn at Versailles. It is approximately an hour drive. More information to follow. May 11: Cruise-in at Buds, St. Mary s Ohio. More information to follow. MEMBERSHIP: Carol Tavener reported that we have 104 members. She sent get well cards to Sam and Nancy Lane and a sympathy card to Sue Smith. Carol also said that if anyone wants their picture in the pictorial directory to send them to Bob Sledge. This document will definitely help with putting names with faces. PUBLIC RELATIONS No report. EDITOR/ WEBMASTER Mike asked if GDCC had any interest in purchasing land that the National Corvette Museum is selling to help with their building fund. Jerry Schlatter will inquire to find out if less than an acre is available as an acre costs around $15,000. NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM (NCM) AMBASSADOR Jerry Schlatter said that the Corvette came in 1st in the GT class at the 24 hour American LeMans race. There are two NCM raffles. The first is March 28. Nineteen hundred tickets, each $100.00 will get you a chance to win a Silver, ZR1. Second prize is $1,000.00 and third prize is $500.00. The second raffle is April 27. Five hundred tickets, each at $500.00 gives you an opportunity to win a 60 th Anniversary convertible. Jerry also pointed out that Tom Murph s picture and that of his 60 th Anniversary Corvette were featured in the local section of the Dayton Daily News. PRESIDENT S REPORT: Freddie stated that she received a call that the Brookville Corvette Club is not having a car show at the Greene. Personnel at the Greene do not want their parking used for the car show but rather their patrons. Brookville is still looking for another place to hold the car show. OLD BUSINESS Marland Ellis is taking orders for pictures from the fall color tour. He has three designs: pencil, comic book, and original photo. Pictures are $5.00

each with $1.00 going back to the Club. For those who order, Marland will have the pictures at next month s meeting. New Business Boris Tirpack showed the Club a 1st place racing plaque he received from the Regional Championship, Great Lakes Division which includes 5 states. Bob Sledge also gave Boris two enlarged pictures which he highlighted Boris race car. Don Pennell moved GDCC give Boris $300.00 for his racing this year. Seconded by Jay Robinson. Motion carried. 50/50 drawing won by Sonya Veta: $45.00 Mike Jones moved the meeting adjourn. Debby McElroy seconded the motion. Respectively submitted, Terri Kopa
