VETTE NEWS Volume 28, Issue 09 September 2009 President s Corner It seems like just a short while ago I had penned the August newsletter message and now we are heading towards September (where did the "summer" go?)although this was our regions fifth wettest summer, we did manage to attend many events in spite of the rains. Our first super cruise at Salvatore's Italian Gardens was a success and the weather co-operated until the final hour. The feedback we received was favorable, the entertainment and the door prizes were exceptional, and we were able to view some cars which I believe haven't been seen before at any of our car shows. This fact tells me that next years attendance will be even better and thus the cruise will be bigger and better. Hats off to Pete Ricigliano, Ron Giovino and Reas Graber for their contributions via the numerous meetings we had with host Joe Salvatore and subsequent planning sessions. Sometimes, we forget how much work is involved to make these events a success. Our fifth annual all Corvette caravan was also a success as attested to the 147 Vettes which appeared at Salvatore's. These participants were treated to a deluxe continental breakfast hosted by Joe Salvatore and provided by the West Herr Auto Group. This was a class start to our road event as the food was served in the restaurant and served by formally attired food service workers. After a 72 mile ride, all the vehicles arrived safely at the Batavia(NY) Party Center thanks to the police officers from the Lancaster PD, New York State Police, Warsaw PD, Erie, Wyoming & Genesee county Sheriff's Dept's. A special thanks to Capt. Daniel Lyons and trooper Art Pittman, NYSP, and ECSD deputies Mike Sommers and Warren Lewis. We finally had a good weather day with temps in the 80's and the sun shining. It was impressive to see the police motorcycles as they traversed our procession all the way to Batavia. During and after our lunch Lee and Mike Buccilli conducted the door prize drawings and also the Kids Escaping Drugs Raffle. A sincere thank you to the Western New York community (AND COB MEMBERS) who supported this cause by purchasing and selling these tickets. I have previously privately and publicly thanked the members who worked so hard to reach our goal. You may recall seeing them selling tickets at a local mall or certain cruise nights (thanks Eastern Hills & Pautlers) and some car shows. These folks are outstanding and are a credit to our club and our community. Also, lest we forget Bob Kazmarek was the original route planner along with Steve Dworzek who also composed the road quiz. Also Bob Meegan whose diligence with law enforcement secured the police escort. As the season moves on,15 or more Corvettes will make the trip to Bowling Green Kentucky for a visit to the National Corvette Museum and the assembly plant just across the highway. Some members will also take in the sights at Nashville and some are even venturing to St. Louis Mo. to visit their children Then, shortly thereafter the club will host our "Vettes in the Valley" show at Holiday Valley Ski Resort in Ellicottville N.Y.Chairman John Meyerhoff and his various committees have a nice weekend planned. John reports quite a few pre-registered vehicles and advanced hotel reservations and we're looking for a good turnout. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there. Also this month we had our annual picnic at the Clarence Town Park Shelter (thanks to Reas Graber) and we were treated to a great meal and our annual rainstorm, and then clearing skies which allowed a photographer from NOCO to take some great group and individual shots of our rides. These photos will be used on NOCO's 2011 calendar featuring what else. Corvettes! In spite of the down pour the picnic committee was able to grill and served up lots of chow(twice during the day mind you). Thanks to volunteers Sue Krezmien, Bob Kazmarek, Lynn & Larry Ienco, Chris & Carl Balmas,Connie & Ron Giovino, and all the rest of COB who brought dishes to pass, and arrived early to do the setup Again this month we welcome additional new members, Holley Wyse and Bob and Carole Blandford. Speaking of additions, I would like to announce the welcome of the newest member of our (my) family, Summer Grace Lumb, a beautiful girl who arrived on the morning of August 21st. at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, born to our daughter Tracy and weighing in at 6lbs., 13oz., 19 3/4".
