July and Aug Excitements We really get off to a great Aug with 47 attending the meeting. That is a good number considering this is the hottest month of the year. We had one member that went to Wing Ding, Jerry Hinton that gave us a brief on his trip and how much fun he had He had some health problems upon coming back home but luckily he got back to Arkansas first. We also had one of our visitors, Daryl Johnson that took a trip that was just over 9000 miles that stood and told us about it.. We did have our friends from Blytheville this month. We had 9 from their chapter. We had Dave and Rhonda Johnson that has came back to Jonesboro. They were members sometime ago and came back home to us. We want to welcome Dub White back and also Tom for proving to us that he does have a WIFE. If any of you have anything you want to have in the newsletter, you may send it to me or to Tommy, but do not send it in PDF file. Send only in Word document as it is so much easier to work with such as cut and paste. The first in the 50-50 drawing was for $30.00 going to Don Smith, second for $20.00 going to Allen Brown and third for $16.00 going to Jerry Hinton. Congrats go to them! We gave away a total of 5 door prizes going to Dan Scott, Arleen Webb, Sherry Sanders (2), Kathy Hall. Thank You to everyone that brought door prizes. Assistant Director Reminds You!! August 5 th Regular Chapter Meeting August 11 th Chapter B Rally in Rogers August 12 th Blytheville Chapter W Meeting August 18 th Breakfast at Front Page and a day ride to Forest City following August 25 th ride to Mountain View August 31, leaving to go to 30 th birthday party of the Goldwings held in Nashville Then we get closer to our Rally in September and we need help!!! Everyone get on your Riding Gear because Aug and Sept has turned out to be pretty busy. You can never be bored with GWRRA if you just get into the program. Anything that you may be interested in can be found on the District Web Site with more details on the events. Some of us will be going to most of these and would love your company. We will send out Email to inform you of the time and place to meet as the date approaches. Ride for Fun, Safety and Knowledge. GWRRA offers it all in one package!!! As your Newsletter Editor, I will be sending the letter to your E-Mail address and not through the Stamped Mail. If you do not have an Email address, you will still get it stamped. As advised by the Region Staff Members, this is the way they send their Region News and Chapter News. We have decided to save postage and do as they do!! Also if after we have sent 3 consecutive letters and do not hear from you, We will assume that you are not interested in what the Chapter does and we will discontinue to bother you with the newsletter but will be contacting you to see if something is wrong and we will try our best to correct the matter.

Another Fun Month in GWRRA Wow!! July was supposed to be a boring month for the members that did not get to go to Wing Ding. We were all going to be sitting at home waiting for the fun e-mails from Bill and Jennie and Dale and Carolyn telling us about all of their fun. Well we did enjoy hearing from them but we just could not sit still here at home, no matter how hot the weather was. July 1 st was Chapter D monthly meeting. July 8 th we attended Chapter W meeting in Blytheville. There were 6 bikes and 10 members visiting from Chapter D. Mildred and I had been discussing a Supper ride to Strawberries in Holcomb Mo. July 20 th What a ride and a meal. If you are looking for cheap prices and wonderful food, and you didn t go, you sure missed some fun. There were a total of 31 people there. D had 15 to go. It was a great ride, weather was beautiful. July 21 st, Tommy, Karen, Wayne and I set out to plan a future ride and found a really good one. We will be introducing it to you real soon!! It was about 70 miles of curves and hills!! July28th, not too much went on this weekend except Wayne and I did go to Searcy and spent some money but also profited from them by getting some Gift Certificates for the Rally. Sure hope all of you are gathering up some too from places that you visit to eat or just anything we can use for door prizes. September Meeting will be September 9 th not first Sunday Until next month Ride safe Kathy and Wayne District Couple 2007-08

July was one of the slowest months that we have had at Chapter D. We had 31 people that went to Strawberry s for a little get together between Chapter W and Chapter D. It was an enjoyable evening with a lot of fellowship for all. Jerry Hinton went to Wing Ding in Billings, Montana. It sounded like fun as he gave us an account of his travels but 104 degrees is still hot even in Montana. The biggest trip was taken by Daryl and Tobey Johnson. They put more than 9000 miles on the bike on an excursion to the Yukon Territory in Canada. What a 30 day trip that must have been with all of the big animals that they encountered on their journey. August is going to be filled with somewhere to ride on each Saturday. Aug. 11 th we will be meeting at the BP station on Parker Rd. and Southwest Dr. at 6:00 A.M. to go to Rogers for Chapter B (Springdale) Rally. The 18 th of Aug. we will gather at Front Page Café for breakfast at 8:30 then go to Forrest City to the Honda dealership. There are two events happening Aug. 25 th, with some meeting at the Exxon station on Commerce at 8:30 to go to the Mountains, Music, & Motorcycles Festival in Mountain View, Ar. There will also be some participating in the NEA Dare ride here in Jonesboro. Chapter D s next meeting will Sept. 9 th as Sept 2 nd is Labor Day weekend. Art and Faye Reese, Kathy and Wayne Hall and Karen and Tommy Brown are planning on going to GWRRA 30 th Anniversary. If anyone would like to go, we will be staying at Knights Inn on Friday night in Paris Tn. Kathy has the phone number if you need it. We invite everyone to go with us. We will be leaving at 4:00 P.M. Aug. 31 st. On the morning of Sept.1 st we will go on to Nashville. We plan on leaving Nashville the evening of Sept. 2 nd, but do not know how far we will return before we stop or come all the way home. For those that would like to ride there is plenty to do. We may have to take a lot of water on some of these rides as the temperature is suppose to be in the high 90 s to 100 degrees. We do not want to have a heat stroke while we are riding. SEPT. 15 Th IS CHAPTER D s RALLY ON THE RIDGE AT CRAIGHEAD FORREST. Chapter D has a new web site---gwrra-ar-d. AR-D Chapter Directors Tommy and Karen Brown

Educator s Corner Quick Tips: General Guidelines for Riding a Motorcycle Safely Taken from Motorcycle Safety Foundation Be Visible: Remember that motorist often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting in time. Make sure your headlight works and is on day and night. Use reflective strips or decals on your clothing and on your motorcycle. Be aware of the blind spots cars and trucks have. Flash your brake light when you are slowing down and before stopping. If a motorist doesn t see you, don t be afraid to use your horn. Dress for Safety: Wear a quality helmet and eye protection. Wear bright clothing and a light-colored helmet. Wear leather or other thick, protective clothing. Chose long sleeves and pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves. Remember- the only thing between you and the road is your protective gear. Apply effective mental strategies: Constantly search the road for changing conditions. Use MSF s Search, Evaluate, Execute strategy (SEE) to increase time and space safety margins. Give yourself space and time to respond to other motorist s actions. Give other motorist time and space to respond to you. Use lane positioning to be seen; ride in the part of a lane where you are most visible. Watch for turning vehicles. Signal your next move in advance. Avoid weaving between lanes. Pretend you re invisible, and ride extra defensively. Don t ride when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Know and follow the rules of the road, and stick to the speed limit. Find more helpful safety tips at www.msf-usa.org Have a Safe Ride, Keith and Sherry Sanders, Chapter D Educators

It was a great 18 days, which covered 14 states and over 5,000 miles including the side trips. After leaving Billings, on July 6 th we worked our way over Bear Tooth Pass, spent time in Yellowstone and eventually ended up in Mesquite, Nevada where we spent 4 days exploring the National Parks in the area including Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion. We also toured Hoover Dam, which was really an interesting day. Things are slowing down for the month of August. We only have Chapter B with a day rally scheduled this month. Then in September things will pick up again with something going on almost every weekend through the end of October. Speaking of October, we have the Memorial Picnic scheduled for the 20 th at Burns Park. Again, we will be having the Chapter Cup competition and Chapter Chili Championship challenge. Everyone plan on attending and cheering your Chapter on to victory. For those that haven t been to the Districts of Kansas or Oklahoma for their District Rallies we would encourage you to go. They both put on a weekend of great fun. Kansas is scheduled in September and Oklahoma in October. Both are just a day ride away from us. Speaking of rallies, we are working hard to secure the location for our 2008 District Rally. Hopefully, we will be announcing the location and dates no later than sometime in September. With the input received on the survey from the attendees last year, it will be bigger and better next year. Start making plans now to attend. Until next time, ride safe and Ride With Pride. Allen Brown, Karen Brown, Tommy Brown, Fred May, Sandra May Keith Sanders, Brian Nichols, Bryan Dunham Poker Run for Brian Wadley On July 15 th the City of Jonesboro employees held a benefit poker run for Brian Wadley. Brian is a long time employee of the city who has fought courageously for more than a year with cancer. Brian worked 20 plus years for the City of Jonesboro. He served in several departments before being named Chief of Operations in January 2004. We had a good turnout of GWRRA members in support of the cause. Tommy and Karen Brown, Allen Brown., Fred and Sandra May, Brian Nichols, and Sherry and I from AR-D and Bryan Dunham from AR-W in Blytheville for a total of 6 bikes. I did see another GWRRA member, Barry Wewers, who has attended meetings with chapter D was also riding his Wing, making a total of 10 GWRRA members. It was a hot day but a nice 2 hour ride with everyone stopping for ice cream in Hoxie. At the end of the poker run we were served a great BBQ dinner. The ride had a total of 62 entries. Between the poker run, Boston butt sales and the silent auction over $8500.00 was raised to help Brian and his family cope with all the financial hardship involved with his long term illness. All the proceeds from the poker run went to the Wadley family. There was a $100.00 best hand prize and a $50.00 worst hand prize. Both winners donated their winnings to the cause. City of Jonesboro Mayor Doug Forman had the highest hand and even though he rides one of those loud bikes he has been supportive of Chapter D in many ways, including the judging of our bike show at last years rally. As a City of Jonesboro employee and a Chapter D member I was very proud of the showing my GWRRA family made in support of Brian and his family. We let the city employees and the other people who turned out know we have a Goldwing Chapter in Jonesboro, and we are a supportive part of the community. Note: Brian Wadley Passed Away August 5, 2007 Keith Sanders
